This is an autopsy case of a 6 month old girl who suddenly died of respiratory distress during sleep. She had suffered from mild but frequent episodes of common cold and was treated for eczema for several days. At autopsy, the heart was enlarged and weighed 100 gm. A firm and gray-white tumor, measuring 4.5 x 3.8 x 2.8 cm, was located in the interventricular septum and encroached upon the wall of left ventricle. The mass was well demarcated but was not encapsulated. Neither necrosis nor calcification was present. Microscopically the tumor was composed of haphazardly arranged bundles of collagen fibers and fibroblasts. Myocardial cells are intermingled with the fibroblasts at the margin of the tumor. Massive edema of the lung and congestion of the liver and spleen were pronounced.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor(IMT) or inflammatory pseudotumor is a rare, solid tumor that most often affects children. This tumor is characterized by a spindle cell proliferation admixed with a variety of inflammatory cells. Although it has disputed nosology, a distinctive fibroinflammatory and even pseudosarcomatous appearance have been well appreciated. Herein, we report a case of IMT in the posterior mediastinum in a 19-year-old girl with clinical findings. The immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies on the tumor cells are reported, and their distinctive characteristics are discussed in details.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of structural and functional characteristics of social network on social adjustment in people with mental illness. METHODS: 236 members of the people with mental illness who were enrolled in day hospital, community mental health center and social rehabilitation center participated in the survey. RESULTS: Of structural and functional characteristics of social network, the influenced factors on social adjustment were network size of professional, social support (family, friend and professional) and conflict with professional. When controlling socio-demographic and disorder characteristics, this regression model affected significantly on social adjustment but the power of influence reduced slightly. CONCLUSION: In order to improve the social adjustment of people with mental illness, it is necessary for social network to provide them with more emotional and social resources. Especially, it is important for mental health professionals to build active partnership with the people with mental illness as consumer. For people with mental illness, the economic stability through guaranteed income such as disability benefits, and occupational rehabilitation is very important.

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were as follows; 1) To review the definitions of critical thinking from various perspectives, 2) To examine the critical thinking measurements throughout nursing research, and 3) To review the nursing studies with regard to critical thinking. METHODS: This study was a literature review with regard to the critical thinking in nursing in aspects of conceptual meaning, measurements, and research. RESULTS: The definition of critical thinking in nursing included decision making in clinical setting, inference with logical construct to increase nursing quality, interpretation in the context, and evaluation. The critical thinking was a core concept, which meant not only simple nursing process, but included decision making ability. The critical thinking has been conceptualized by both critical thinking disposition and skill. However, there was no nursing specified critical thinking measurement. Critical thinking research has been conducted to describe critical thinking disposition and critical thinking, to determine relationships between critical thinking and clinical competency, and to evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs. CONCLUSION: The instruments for measuring critical thinking disposition and skill that contain cultural difference and clinical specificity need to be developed to measure critical thinking and increase it.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between violence response, coping, and burnout among emergency department nurses. METHOD: This descriptive study using self report questionnaires was conducted from October 1 to October 20, 2008. Participants were 147 general nurses working in emergency departments in hospitals having over 500 beds and located in Busan. ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients with SPSS PC+ WIN 14.0. were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: Scores for violence response, coping, and burnout were 3.08 (1-5 scale), 2.57 (1-4 scale), and 3.22 (1-5 scale) respectively. There were significant differences in violence response and burnout by education, clinical careers, clinical careers in ED, and plans to work in the future, and no significant differences in coping by general characteristics. There was a significant and highly positive relationship between violence response and burnout. CONCLUSION: The degree of violence response and burnout was comparatively high, while that of coping was average. Therefore, it is necessary to develop effective programs related to prevention and coping with violence for nurses in emergency departments. Institutional measures by hospital authorities are also needed to improve the nursing quality by providing a safe workplace.

Purpose: This study was to investigate the relationships among patient safety culture, safety competence and safety nursing activity among nurses in anesthetic and recovery rooms, and to identify the factors contributing to safety nursing activity. Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted. Participants were 156 nurses from 13 hospitals. Data were collected from February 11 to March 15th, 2019, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis with SPSS statistics 24.0 Program. Results: Safety nursing activity was significantly different in relation to nurses’ level of education, position at work, clinical career, clinical career at anesthetic and recovery rooms, and work experience in patient safety. Safety nursing activity demonstrated a significant positive correlation with patient safety culture and patient safety competence. Factors contributing to safety nursing activity were patient safety knowledge, skill and attitude, clinical career, clinical career at anesthetic and recovery rooms, and the patient safety improvement system which explained 57.0% of total variance of safety nursing activity. Conclusion To improve safety nursing activities at anesthetic and recovery rooms, it is necessary to develop patient safety programs with enhanced knowledge, skill and attitude to take patient safety as a top priority.

Goltz syndrome is known as a rare mesoectodermal hereditary disease, characterized by focal dermal atrophies with hernias of adipose tissue and also associated with a multitude of possible skeletal, dental, ophthalmological and other abnormalities. We experienced a case of Goltz syndrome. An one day old female newborn had focal atrophic and telangiectatic skin lesions, microphthalmia, syndactyly and urinary tract abnormality. The finding of skin biopsy was consistent with focal dermal hypoplasia. We report the case with a brief review and related literatures.

Chyle leakage is a rare complication of surgery for thyroid cancer that generally develops after lateral neck dissection. Here, we describe chyle leakages experienced after central neck dissection (CND). A total of 615 patients with thyroid cancer were treated by total thyroidectomy with CND between Jan 2012 and Dec 2012 at our facility, and three (0.49%) developed chyle leakages. The amounts of leakage were all less than 100 ml/day. One patient was resolved with conservative management, while the others were treated with conservative treatment and fibrin glue injection in chylous lymphocele. Chyle leakage after CND is very uncommon, and most cases involve minor leakage. Fibrin glue could be a treatment option for chyle leakage following CND.
