Ribosome is an intracellular ribonucleoprotein particle that serves as the site of protein biosynthesis. Ribosomal dysfunction caused by mutations in genes encoding ribosomal proteins (RPs) and ribosome biogenesis factors (RBFs) can lead to a spectrum of diseases, collectively known as ribosomopathy. Phase separation is a thermodynamic process that produces multiple phases from a homogeneous mixture. The formation of membraneless organelles and intracellular structures, including ribosomes and nucleoli, cannot occur without the involvement of phase separation. Here, ribosome structure, biogenesis, and their relationship with ribosomopathy are systematically reviewed. The tissue specificity of ribosomopathy and the role of phase separation in ribosomopathy are particularly discussed, which may offer some clues for understanding the mechanisms of ribosomopathy. Then, some new ideas for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of ribosomopathy are provided.

Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of low-dose and standard-dose radiotherapy (LD-RT vs. SD-RT) in the treatment of oropharyngeal cancer patients with positive human papillomavirus (HPV). Methods:All comparative studies of low-dose versus standard-dose radiotherapy in the treatment of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer were searched from PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMbase, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), CNKI, Chongqing VIP, and Wanfang databases from January 1, 2000 to February 9, 2023. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the data were strictly screened, and the RevMan 5.4 software was used for meta-analysis.Results:A total of 8 studies were included. The pooled results showed that the overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of patients in the LD-RT group were similar to those in the SD-RT group ( HR=0.83, 95% CI=0.59-1.18, P=0.31; HR=0.97, 95% CI=0.53-1.78, P=0.92), but the rate of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) insertion was significantly reduced ( RR=0.45, 95% CI=0.28-0.72, P=0.001). Conclusion:LD-RT yields similar efficacy and lower rate of PEG insertion compared with SD-RT in HPV-positive oropharyngeal neoplasm patients.

Sedentary bad habits and unhealthy diets in modern lifestyles have led to an upward trend in the incidence of obesity, and a series of diseases related to obesity have also gradually received attention. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, and obesity has a common inflammatory component with most chronic diseases. Therefore, this paper reviews the research progress on the relationship between obesity and multiple sclerosis in order to better understand the role of obesity in the management of multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an idiopathic inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system, the underlying cause of which has not been cleared. Previous studies have shown that the pathogenesis of MS is related to the destruction of blood brain barrier, furthermore the drugs used to treat MS have a certain protective effect on the function of blood brain barrier. Therefore, this review combines the research progress at home and abroad to clarify the relationship between the blood brain barrier and MS in pathogenesis and treatment, proposing possible orientation of development.

Objective To detect the expression of Survivin and hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic carcinoma,and investigate their roles and mutual correlations in pathogenesis and progression of prostatic carcinoma.Methods The expression of Survivin and HIF-1α in proliferative lesions of prostate (15 cases) and prostatic carcinoma (62 cases) were detected by immunohistochemistry method.The relationship between the expressions of Survivin and HIF-1α was analyzed,as well as their correlations with clinicopathological features.Results The positive expression of Survivin and HIF-1α were significantly higher in the prostatic carcinoma [71.0 ％ (44/62) and 69.4 ％ (43/62),respectively] compared with those of the prostatic proliferation [6.7 ％ (1/15) and 0] (x2 =20.56,P 0.001; x2 =23.56,P =0.001,respectively).The expression of Survivin and HIF-1α in prostate carcinoma was significantly related with the histological grading,clinical staging (x2 =10.64,5.39,7.62,6.43,all P ＜ 0.05).And there was positively correlated between Survivin and HIF-lα (rs =0.350,P =0.006).Conclusion Survivin and HIF-1α synergistically play important roles in pathogenesis and progression of prostatic carcinoma.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the impact of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) on cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) in patients with cerebral infarction.

METHODSConsecutive patients with acute cerebral infarction who had cerebral microbleeds shown by susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) were enrolled to undergo polysomnography (PSG). The patients were divided into two groups, namely non-OSAHS group with apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) less than 5 and OSAHS group with greater AHI, and the clinical and radiological features of cerebral microbleeds were compared between them.

RESULTSForty-nine patients were enrolled in this study, including 27 (55.1%) with both cerebral infarction and OSAHS and 22 (44.9%) with cerebral infarction but not OSAHS. A comparison of the risk factors showed that hypertension, a smoking history, and a history of stroke were more prevalent in patients with OSAHS than in those without OSAHS (P<0.05). The incidences of subclinical stroke in OSAHS and non-OSAHS patients were 37.0% (10/27) and 9.0% (2/22) (P<0.05), respectively. Neurological imaging revealed a greater number of cerebral microbleeds in OSAHS group than in non-OSAHS group (P<0.05). In OSAHS patients, 77.8% of the microbleeds were distributed in cortical-subcortical areas, 55.6% in the basal ganglia area, and 25.9% in the infratentorial area, as compared to the percentages of 50.0%, 40.9% and 50.0% in non-OSAHS patients, respectively (P<0.05). In OSAHS patients, 40.7% also had leukoaraiosis, and 48.1% had two or more causes, as compared to the percentages of 13.6% and 18.2% in non-OSAHS patients, respectively (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSOSAHS can be a risk factor for cerebral microbleeds. Patients with both cerebral infarction and OSAHS tend to have greater and more extensive lesions of cerebral microbleeds, more complicated cause of the disease, and a grater likeliness of stroke recurrence.
