Objective:To explore the value of reading report in upbringing the integrated faculties of medical students.Methods:To give the training of reading report to the Seven-year and the five-year program medical students in their last year.Results:Such a training stirred the students' learning interests,improved their abilities in independent study,promoted their ability in collecting and dealing with information and widened their knowledge.Medical students grasped of the essential methods in writing reading report,which settled the groundwork for research abilities in the future.Conclusions:Reading report writing is instrumental in de- veloping students' integrated faculties and worthy advocating in medical teaching.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Syk on the VEGF-C expression in breast cancer.

METHODSImmunohistochemical EnVision method was used to detect the protein expression of Syk, NFκB and VEGF-C in breast carcinoma; and the relationship between protein expression of Syk, NFκB, VEGF-C and lymph node metastasis was analysed. MDA-MB-231 cells were transfected with pcDNA3.1(-)-Syk, and the effect of Syk gene on the VEGF-C and NFκB expression was determined.

RESULTSIn the lymph node metastatic group, a lower expression rate of Syk and higher expression rate of VEGF-C and NFκB were detected as compared to the non-metastatic group. The expression of Syk was negatively associated with NFκB (r = -0.448, P = 0.002) and VEGF-C (r = -0.620, P = 0.000) expression, and VEGF-C was associated with the nuclear expression of NFκB (r = 0.310, P = 0.036). Compared with the non-transfected cells, the pcDNA3.1(-)-Syk transfected MDA-MB-231 cells showed significantly lower transcriptional level of VEGF-C mRNA, expression level of VEGF-C protein and NFκB activity (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSSyk may play an important role in the lymph node metastasis of breast cancer. It may down-regulate the expression of VEGF-C by inhibiting the activity of NFκB, which thus suppresses lymph node metastasis of breast cancer.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the CT scan findings of primary pulmonary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (PPNHL) and their relation to pathological features.

METHODSThe CT scan findings of 17 PPNHL cases confirmed pathologically from August 1992 to June 2007 were analyzed in relation to their pathological foundation.

RESULTIn 17 cases the CT findings showed: 1) Five were single mass or nodule, including 3 with air-bronchograms, 1 with straddling-lobe distribution and 3 with slight enhancement; 2) One was multi-nodules with air-bronchograms; 3) Six were consolidation with air bronchogram,including 3 with straddling-lobe distribution and 3 with slight enhancement; 4) Five were combined changes, including 5 with air-bronchograms, 2 with straddling-lobe distribution and 4 with slight enhancement. The CT features of PPNHL corresponded to their pathological process and pathological features.

CONCLUSIONPrimary pulmonary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma should be considered when CT scan shows variety of images found in one patient, middle lobe of right lung involved, air-bronchograms and straddling-lobe distribution in consolidation with slight enhancement.

Objective To investigate the effects of different doses of dexamethasone (Dex) on bone mineral density (BMD) and body composition in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. Methods Forty 3-month-old female SD rats were divided into four groups:control group (Cont, saline), low dose Dex group (LDG, 1 mg/kg), medium dose Dex group (MDG, 2.5 mg/kg) and high dose Dex group (HDG, 5 mg/kg). Ten rats for each group. Dex was injected intramuscularly twice a week. The values of BMD and body composition were measured by DEXA densitometer at the beginning and 4-week of treatment. Results The body weights of different doses of Dex intervention groups were decreased after 1 to 4-week intervention compared with those of Cont group (P<0.01). After 4-week intervention, the total BMD, femur BMD, total bone mineral content (BMC), to-tal fat mass, trunk fat mass and leg fat mass were significantly increased in Cont group (P<0.01), while the total lean mass, trunk lean mass were significantly decreased (P<0.01). The total BMC, femur BMD, leg lean mass, leg fat mass were signifi-cantly lower in LDG group and MDG group than those of Cont group (P<0.05). The femur BMD, leg fat mass were signifi-cantly lower in LDG group and MDG group than those of HDG group (P<0.05). Conclusion The doses of 1 mg/kg and 2.5 mg/kg Dex have greater impact on the femur BMD and the leg composition in SD rats than that of Dex (dose of 5 mg/kg ).

The fine structure of enoxaparin sodium samples with different degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives were analyzed with polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, high performance liquid chromatography, ultraviolet spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. A further study of anticoagulation activity of enoxaparins was performed, including those on their inhibition activities of coagulation factor Xa (FXa) and thrombin (FIIa). The results showed that the anti-FXa and -FIIa activities of enoxaparins with different degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives (20.0%-39.7%) with similar structure characteristics, had decreasing tendency when the degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives increased. Especially, the anti-FXa activity was sensitive to the change of the degree of 1,6-anhydro derivatives.

OBJECTIVETo assess the role of vanilloid receptor (VR) in thermal hyperalgesia induced by intraplantar endothelin-1 (ET-1) injection.

METHODSVR gene-knockout mice (KO group) and wild type C57BL/6J mice (WT group) in 3 subgroups were subjected to intraplantar administration of ET-1 at the doses of 3, 10, 30 and 100 pmol (dissolved in 10 microl of PBS, pH 7.4, n=6 in each group), respectively. The latency time of paw withdrawal (PWT) from heat irradiation stimulation was recorded before injection and 15, 30, 45 and 60 min after injection.

RESULTSET-1 induced thermal hyperalgesia in both groups. The mice in WT group showed a more sharply shortened PWT than those in KO group. ET-1 decreased PWT as the dose administered increased in WT group, which was different from the responses of the KO mice. At the dose of 100 pmol of ET-1, no further decrement of latency time was observed in WT group, whereas such response occurred at 30 pmol in KO group.

CONCLUSIONIntraplantar injection of ET-1 induces thermal hyperalgesia mediated partially by VR.

Objective To investigate the effects of ultraviolet blood irradiation and oxygenation(UBIO)on oxygen free radical metabolism(OFRM)in rabbits with acute soman intoxication.Methods One hundred rabbits were randomly divided into five groups:a control group,a soman intoxication group(I),a soman intoxication plus routine therapy group(TR),a soman intoxication plus UBIO therapy group(UBIO)and a soman intoxication plus complex therapy group(CT).All the rabbits were intervened accordingly.Then the concentrations of malondiade- hyde(MDA)and the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),glutathionperoxidase(GSH Px)and catalase (CAT)in serum were determined at 14 d after various treatments.Results Compared with the control group,the concentration of MDA and the activity of CAT in the 1 group were significantly increased(P＜0.01),while the activi- ties of SOD and GSH Px were obviously decreased(P＜0.05).After UBIO or complex therapy,the serum level of MDA was significantly decreased in comparison with that in the I group(P＜0.01),while the concentrations of SOD, GSH Px and CAT were enhanced(P＜0.05).Conclusion UBIO therapy can improve antioxidation activity against the injury caused by free radicals and could be used to treat acute soman intoxication,which causes injury from in- creased oxygen free radical concentrations.

Objective To study the prevalence of mental disorders among the Chinese youths aged 15-34 years,in rural areas and to identify risk factors related to suicide.Methods A consecutive sampling strategy was used for suicidal cases in 16 randomly selected counties in Hunan,Liaoning,and Shandong provinces.Between 2005 and 2008,a total of 392 suicide cases were recruited with 416 community controls at the same age range,selected from the same areas one family member together with one close friend of each suicidal case were interviewed,using the psychological autopsy (PA) method.The same method with structured instruments was performed on the two informants for each control in the same community.SCID was used for the diagnosis of mental disease.Results 48.0％ of the suicides were diagnosed as having at least one mental disorder episode,in comparison with only 3.8％ among the controls.It was found that mental disorder was the most important risk factor for the Chinese young suicide cases in the rural areas.Conclusion As seen in the Western countries,mental disorder had also been the number one correlate on suicidal cases in China,with the difference as other social and psychological factors might have played relatively more important roles in China.

AIM: To evaluate the change of retinal thickness and choroidal thickness in patients with diabetic macular edema or retinal vein occlusion- macular edema after intravitreal Ranibizumab injection using spectral domain-optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT),and to identify determinants for the change of different types of macular edema. METHODS: Patients were recruited from March 2016 to July 2017 diagnosed with diabetic macular edema or retinal vein occlusion - macular edema. Subfoveal choroidal thickness (SFCT) and central retinal thickness (CRT) of all eyes were measured by SD - OCT preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6mo after operation. The change of retinal thickness and choroidal thickness after intravitreal ranibizumab injection for macular edema caused by different diseases were evaluated. Moreover, the potential determinants were studied about the change of retinal thickness and choroidal thickness. RESULTS: Thirty-six eyes of 36 patents with macular edema were treated with intravitreal ranibizumab injection. After the intravitreal ranibizumab injection, the CRT and SFCT decreased, when compared with the CRT and SFCT preoperative. There was a significant difference in the change of CRT and SFCT in different time points of following-up (FCRT=40.876, PCRT<0.001; FSFCT=46.319, PSFCT< 0. 001). In diabetic macular edema group, the change of SFCT was associated with the preoperative SFCT, and the change of CRT was correlated with preoperative CRT and the fast blood glucose level. In retinal vein occlusion-macular edema group, the change of SFCT was associated with the preoperative SFCT, the change of CRT was associated with preoperative CRT,the obstructive positions and the onset time of disease. CONCLUSION: Reduction of choroidal thickness and retinal thickness in macular edema caused by different diseases can be detected with SD-OCT after intravitreal injections of ranibizumab. The reduction of choroidal thickness was correlated with the preoperative choroidal thickness. In diabetic macular edema eyes, the reduction of retinal thickness was correlated with preoperative CRT and the fast blood glucose level. Whereas,in retinal vein occlusion-macular edema eyes, the reduction of retinal thickness was correlated with the preoperative CRT, the obstructive positions and the onset time.
