Objective:To study the clinical efficacy of salmon calcitonin combined with calcium in the treatment of osteoporosis and the effect on bone metabolism index. Methods:Totally 360 cases of patients with osteoporosis were randomly divided into the ob-servation group and the control group with 180 ones in each. The patients in the control group were given compound calcium carbonate tablets, po, qd, and those in the observation group were given 50IU salmon calcitonin injection additionally, im, qd. After two months of treatment, the changes in pain score, bone density and bone metabolism related indicators of the two groups were compared before and after the treatment. The clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of the two groups were observed as well. Results: After the treat-ment, both groups showed lower pain scores (P<0. 01) when compared with those before the treatment, and the reduction in the ob-servation group was more significant than that in the control group. After the treatment, the bone density had no significant change in the two groups(P>0. 05). The bone metabolism parameters including serum BGP,β-CTX, PTH, BNALP and 25OHVitD were signif-icantly improved when compared with those before the treatment (P<0. 01), and the improvement in the observation group was better than that in the control group (P<0. 01). The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0. 01). Conclusion:Salmon calcitonin combined with calcium can significantly improve the efficacy in the treatment of osteoporosis with improved pain scores and bone metabolism related indicators, and the combination is much better than calcium alone, however, the adverse reactions are significantly increased.

Image processing research group applied immersive experience into “medical image processing”. A scheme named “introduction by game, case driven, lecture on specific theme, grouping experiment, and seminar”was designed and practiced. We designed a game for each subject and made students immersed in the game to feel the pleasure of learning. We changed the traditional teaching method which focused on every point of knowledge, presented and then decomposed the case before teaching each knowledge point which was related to the case. By grouping experiment and seminar, students can learn actively. We also developed a virtual experiment platform with .NET and Matlab for students to develop learning.

Objective To investigate the association of the major histocompatibility complex class Ⅰ chain-related antigens A (MICA)-129 gene polymorphism and soluble MICA (sMICA) levels with ulcerative colitis (UC) in Hubei Han nationality. Methods The genetic polymorphism of MICA-129 was examined using a polymerase chain reaction-sequence based test (PCR-SBT) in 256 UC patients and 460 healthy controls. From the above subjects, 80 patients and 90 healthy individuals were randomly selected for determining serum sMICA concentrations by ELISA. Results The frequencies of variant allele (G) and genotype (GG) in MICA-129 gene were significantly higher in the UC patients than in the controls(76. 8%vs 72. 2%, P =0. 060; 55.9% vs 46. 3% ,P =0. 016). Serum sMICA levels were significantly elevated in the patients compared to the controls[(576. 47 ±279. 02) ng/L vs( 182. 17 ±73. 11 ) ng/L,P <0. 001]. In addition, the sMICA levels were higher in the patients carrying MICA-129 GG genotypes than in those carrying ( GA + AA) genotypes [( 638. 87 ± 347. 15 ) ng/L vs ( 507. 51 ± 152. 87 ) ng/L, P = 0. 035].Conclusions The genetic polymorphism of MICA-129 and sMICA levels are correlated with the UC patients in Hubei Han nationality. Our findings demonstrate that MICA-129 gene may contribute to the pathogenesis of UC.

OBJECTIVETo compare therapeutic effects of locking plates for the treatment of Neer 3-and 4-part proximal humerus fractures.
METHODSFrom January 2009 to June 2011, 64 patients with Neer 3-and 4-part proximal humerus fractures were treated with locked plate fixation. There were 39 patients in the 3-part group including 16 males and 23 females, with an average age of (55.12 +/- 12.52) years old; and 25 patients in the 4-part fractures group including 9 males and 16 females, with an average age of (57.92 +/- 13.14) years old. The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score (ASES), visual analogue scale (VAS) and complications were documented for analysis before and after treatment.
RESULTSAll the patients had incision healing at the first stage. All the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 12 to 30 months, with a mean of 16.5 months. Comparably better shoulder function recovery was achieved in the 3-part fractures group with regard to the ASES (76.14 +/- 14.10 in the 3-part fractures group vs. 65.93 +/- 11.82 in the 4-part fractures group, P < 0.05). Moreover,a statistical difference (P < 0.05) was observed regarding the VAS pain score (2.12 +/- 1.63 in the 3-part fractures group vs. 3.90 +/- 2.21 in the 4-part fractures group). For the complications rate,no statistical difference was noted between 3-part fractures group and 4-part fractures group (20.51% vs. 36.00%).
CONCLUSIONThe clinical outcomes of the 3-part proximal humerus fractures is better than the 4-part fractures proximal humerus fractures treated with locking plate. Complex proximal humeral fractures treated with locking plates can be achieved a satisfactory outcome when attention is paid to anatomic reduction, stable fixation, proper screws and plate placement, and reasonable functional exercise postoperative.

Objective To explore the association of genetic polymorphism of fucosyltransferase (FUT) 2 and FUT3 and expression of Lewis antigen with ulcerative colitis (UC) in Chinese Zhejiang Han population. Methods We genotyped FUT2 (rs281377, rs1047781 and rs601338) and FUT3 (rs28362459, rs3745635 and rs3894326) in 485 UC patients and 580 healthy controls using SNaPshot. By immunohistochemistry method, we also evaluated expression of Lewis a and b antigens in the sigmoid colon of 10 UC patients and 10 patients with benign colonic polyps. Results The frequencies of mutant allele (A) and genotype (GA+AA) in FUT3 rs3745635 were higher in UC patients than in controls (P=0.016, 95%CI 1.339-1.699;P=0.038, 95%CI 1.330-1.742, respectively). Stratified analyses revealed that the frequencies of mutant allele (G) and genotype (TG+GG) of FUT3 rs28362459 were significantly lower in patients with extensive colitis than in those with distal colitis (P=0.001, 95%CI 0.567-0.786;P<0.001, 95%CI 0.503-0.742, respectively). Similar conclusions were drawn for the mutant allele (A) and genotype (GA+AA) of FUT3 rs3745635 in patients with extensive colitis compared to those with distal colitis (P=0.011, 95%CI 0.621-0.900;P=0.006, 95%CI 0.553-0.845, respectively). Although expression of Lewis b antigen in the sigmoid colon did not differ between UC patients and controls, Lewis a antigen expression was higher in the crypt epithelium of both inflammatory and non-inflammatory sigmoid colon of UC patients than in controls (P=0.028).Conclusion Polymorphisms of FUT3 and expression level of Lewis a antigen might be associated with UC.
