Objective:To study the relationship between preoperative serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) levels and long-term prognosis after partial hepatectomy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods:The clinical data of 1102 patients with HCC who underwent partial hepatectomy at the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2012 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 960 males and 142 females, with an average age of 51 years. The X-tile software determined the best cut-off value of CA19-9 to be 55U/ml. The enrolled patients were then divided into the low-level (CA19-9≤55 U/ml, n=956) and high-level (CA19-9 >55 U/ml, n=146) groups. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze survival, and the log-rank test was performed to evaluate survival rates. The prognostic risk factors of HCC were calculated by the Cox proportional hazards model. Results:The 1, 3, and 5-year survival rates for the low-level group were 85.0%, 68.2%, and 60.9%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of the high-level group of 80.1%, 58.2%, and 47.0%, respectively ( P<0.05) . The 1, 3, and 5-year recurrence-free survival rates of the low level group were 60.5%, 44.6%, and 37.9% respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the high-level group of 53.4%, 33.3%, and 25.1%, respectively ( P<0.05). Cox regression analysis showed that patients with CA19-9 >55 U/ml ( HR=1.323, 95% CI: 1.070-1.636, P=0.010) had a higher risk of recurrence after hepatectomy, while patients with CA19-9 >55 U/ml ( HR=1.511, 95% CI: 1.163-1.964, P=0.002) had a poor prognosis after hepatectomy. Conclusions:Preoperative serum level of CA19-9>55 U/ml was an independent risk factor for survival and recurrence of HCC patients after partial hepatectomy. CA19-9 had a significant predictive value for prognosis of HCC patients who underwent partial hepatectomy.

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Pingyangmycin lipiodol emulsion (PLE) embolization for cavernous hemangioma of liver (CHL). Methods Seldinger technique was adopted and the catheter was super-selectively sent into the supplying artery of tumors in 18 CHL patients, 5-10 ml of Lidocaine and 5-20 ml of PLE were slowly injected. Before the embolization, 50-100 mg of pethidine was routinely injected. The embolization was conducted in several times in patients with large tumors, with multiple supplying arteries, and whose age was above 60 years. During the 3-48 months'follow-up after the operation, the change of the tumor diameter before and after the embolization was compared by using CT and ultrasound. The clinical symptomatic relief and the complications were also observed. Results The CHL of all the 18 cases were filled up by PLE. The foci were completely vanished in 9 cases, reduced by over 50% in 7 cases, and reduced by 25%-50% in 2 cases, respectively. The follow-up angiographic examination was performed in six cases, the tumor staining was completely vanished and the tumor-supplying artery was closed up. The improving rate of the clinical symtoms reached 89% . There were no serious complications. Conclusion The PLE embolization in hepatic cavernous hemangioma proves to be reliable, safe, minimally invasive, and with little side effect. This therapy, therefore, can be the first method of choice in treating the cavernous hemangioma of the liver.

Objective To explore the possibility of piezoelectric microarray immunosensor for the detection of Agkistrodon acutus venom. Methods Microarray immunosensor with quartz crystal of 10 MHz AT-cut and 2?5 gold-coated electrodes was prepared. The thiol-treated venom antibody was immobilized by a self assembling device for the detection of the standard fluid for different concentrations of the venom. Results Experimental results showed that the optimal concentration of the antibody was 3.0 g/ml with the response time of 40 minutes. The piezoelectric immunosensor could well respond to homologous venoms. Within the range of 0.1~4.0 g/ml, the frequency shifts were linearly dependent on the venom concentration. Conclusion Piezoelectric microarray immunosensor for the detection of Agkistrodon acutus venom is of high specificity of response, high sensitivity, and simple operation without marking. The technique of piezoelectric microarray immunosensor is possible to test snakebite quickly, quantitatively, and instrumentally.

Objective To investigate the effect of ?-lipoic acid on the expression levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells under high glucose concentration. Methods Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (ECV304) were randomized into control (NG) group, high glucose (HG) group and ?-lipoic acid group. Cells in the 3 groups were incubated for 48h with 5.5mmol/L glucose,30mmol/L glucose,30mmol/L glucose + ?-lipoic acid in a series of concentrations (50,100,200?mol/L),respectively. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the supernate was determined by the method of xanthine oxidase, and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) was measured with thiobarbituric acid as the substrate. The level of ICAM-1 in the supernate was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expressive levels of ICAM-1 mRNA were determined by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results Compared with the control group, the activity of SOD declined significantly and the contents of MDA and ICAM-1 increased in umbilical vein endothelial cells in HG group (P

Objective To evaluate the application of contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound ( CETRUS) to identify prostate cancer(PCa) from benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH). Methods A total of 86 patients with focal prostatic disease detected by trans rectal ultrasound(TRUS) were enrolled in this study. Each patient underwent grey-scale TRUS, CE-TRUS, and targeted-biopsy of prostateunder ultrasound guidance successively on the same day. The criteria of perfusion pattern would be statistically analyzed among groups divided by pathological findings. Every patient's images of CE-TRUS were observed and features of perfusion pattern were recorded by two doctors who were blind to any clinical data of patient. Then these features recorded by two doctors were compared, if the features were coherent, they would be recorded as final results, and otherwise two doctors would consult till the features were coherent. Results Compared with BPH group, the enhancement features of PCa group were rapid enhancement, increased enhancement, heterogeneous enhancement, well-defined boundary of lesion after enhancement, asymmetric appearance of intraprostatic vessels, rapid decrease, perfusion defect areas within lesions and the roughly discontinuous juncture between enhancement and no enhancement area within lesions. Conclusions There was significant difference in enhancement pattern between BPH and PCa groups, observing enhancement pattern could help to identify prostate cancer from benign prostate hyperplasia.
