Objective: To evaluate the nutritional markers in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: We examined SGA, dietary diaries, direct anthropometry, biochemical indices in 90 continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients. Then, the normalized protein equivalent of total nitrogen appearance (nPNA), lean body mass (LBM) and %LBM were calculated. Results: These patients were classified to three nutritional categories based on SGA (i.e. normal nutrition, mild to moderate malnutrition, severe malnutrition). The dietary protein intake(DPI), dietary energy intake(DEI), serum albumin(Alb), nPNA, LBM and %LBM were significantly different among three groups (P
2.Chronic inflammation state, malnutrition and cardiovascular disease in peritoneal dialysis patients
Chinese Journal of Nephrology 1997;0(05):-
Objective To identify the relationship among chronic inflammatory state, malnutrition and cardiovascular diseases in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods Cardiovascular diseases and dialysis regime in 90 clinically stable continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients were investigated. Then, dietary energy intake (DEI) and protein intake (DPI) through dietary diaries were measured. The serum albumin (Alb), prealbumin(PA), transferring (TF), lean body mass (LBM), LBM% and the normalized protein equivalent of total nitrogen appearance (nPNA) were examined or calculated. Subjective global assessment (SGA) was also evaluated. Serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrotic factor-?(TNF-?) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured as markers of chronic inflammation. Serum leptin and plasma NPY were detected too. Results Serum IL-6 and TNF-? levels of CAPD cases were (17. 17?27.72) pg/ml and (34. 21?25. 92) pg/ml, which were significantly higher as compared to control group. Serum CRP level in CAPD patients was (9. 88?20. 93)mg/L. There were 24 patients(26. 67% ) with CRP above normal level. 55 patients(61. 11% ) had cardiovascular diseases. The patients with angina pectoris, old myocardial infarction and chronic heart failure had higher CRP levels than those without above complications ( P

Cerebral smal vessel disease (CSVD) accounts for 25 to 30% of al strokes. It is a main cause of vascular cognitive impairment. Because of cerebral smal vessels can not easily be directly observed and studied in vivo and on imaging, so the term CSVD is generaly used to describe a syndrome of clinical, cognitive, neuroimaging, and neuropathological changes, and not focus on the pathological changes of the smal vessel wal itself that caused these syndromes. This article reviews the advances in research on CSVD, particularly its pathological changes of vessel wals.

Objective To synthesize a new-type thermosensitive liquid embolic material and to investigate the feasibility of using this material to occlude cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs).Methods The copolymer was synthesized with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N-n-propylacrylamide (NNPAM),and it's physical and biological properties were estimated. The embolization of AVMs model in vitro by using this copolymer was conducted and the results were analyzed. Results The new-type copolymer possessed unique thermal behavior of lower critical soluble temperature (LCST),and it was water-soluble and non-adhesive with better biocompatibility. The successful embolization of AVMs model could be reliably obtained. Conclusion The copolymer synthesized by the authors is a new-type liquid embolic agent suitable for endovascular embolization of cerebral AVMs in vitro.Based on the results in experiment animals having been reported in medical literature, this copolymer can be further used in clinical research.

Objective: To study the possible mechanism of malnutrition in peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: Multicenter prospective cohort study was designed . Forty-four peritoneal dialysis patients who survived two years after a cross-sectional study were included in the present study. We divided our patients into two groups according to the dietary protein intake(DPI) during follow-up period, DPI lower than 0.78 g/( kg?d) or DPI higher than 0.78 g/( kg?d). Patients' nutritional status was evaluated during the cross-sectional study and at the end of follow-up. 22 patients were divided into two groups according to the nutritional status improved or worsened in subjective global assessment (SGA) during the follow-up period. Besides nutritional status, patient's residual renal function, volume status and the incidence of cardiovascular event during the follow-up period were also evaluated. Results: Based on SGA , the incidence of malnutrition in low-DPI group was 60.9% in the cross-sectioned study and 45.5% after the follow-up. In high-DPI group, it decreased from 57.1% to 28.6%. The residual renal function declined significantly in worse nutritional status group, the incidences of volume overload and cardiovascular events during follow-up study were significantly higher in worse nutritional status group than that in improved nutritional status group. Conclusion: Malnutrition in peritoneal dialysis patients may not be simply due to lower protein intake. The changes in residual renal function, fluid overload and cardiovascular disease, accompanied with low dietary protein intake may be the possible cause of malnutrition in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between the expression of P16 protein and the clinico-pathology of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) of buccal mucosa and its precursor lesions. Methods:The immunohistochemical stain against p16 was performed in 30 cases of SCC of buccal mucosa, 32 cases of buccal leukoplakia and buccal lichen planus and 10 cases of normal buccal mucosa. All data were analyzed quantitatively by imag analysis technique. Then, the results were compared with clinico-pathological parameters. Results:The positive expression of P16 protein was found in all normal buccal and hyperplasia mucosa (100.0%), in 9 out of 10 cases of atypical hyperplasia (90.0%), in 12 out of 30 cases of SCC of buccal mucosa (40.0%). The positive expression rate of P16 protein in SCC of buccal mucosa was significantly lower than that in atypical hyperplasia (P
