Professor LU Zhi-zheng, one of the first traditional Chinese medicine masters, is good at using tenuifoliain clinical practice, which often brings unexpected surprises. Lu said, tenuifolia is a mild herbal medicine with the nature of upward dispersion and outward penetration but not dryness. Tenuifolia has the following functions: making people conscious, relieving sore throat, diverging incubated diseases, regulating functional activities of qi, sending up Yang, dispelling wind evil and eliminating dampness, and activating collaterals to relieve pain. When well used, it will not only enhance the effect of monarch drug, but also restrict the impetuosity nature in a prescription, achieving better efficacy.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2016;41(3):180-183
Objective To investigate the hemostatic property of calcium alginate (CA) sponge and its degree of safety on exterior use. Methods The optimal coagulation concentration of CA was determined by Lee-White clotting test, and then the CA was freeze-dried to form a sponge. The coagulation effect in vitro of the CA sponge was determined by Blood Clotting Index (BCI) test. The ear artery bleeding model and full-thickness skin wound model of rabbit were employed to determine the hemostatic property of CA sponge. The degree of safety of CA sponge was evaluated by cell toxicity test. Results The BCI was significantly decreased in CA sponge group (33.08±4.02) than that in gelatin sponge (72.05±10.48, P<0.05). In rabbit ear artery bleeding test, the volume of blood loss was obviously less in CA sponge group (2.85±0.14g) than that in gelatin sponge group (2.97±0.17g) or hospital gauze group (3.93±0.18g, P<0.05). In rabbit full-thickness skin wounds test, the total amount of blood absorbed was lower in CA sponge group (2.66±0.24) than in hospital gauze group (3.81±0.73, P<0.05), but the hemostasis time in CA sponge group (97.83±5.49s) showed no significant difference as compared with that in gelatin sponge group (80.25±7.41s, P>0.05), though they were all shorter significantly than that in hospital gauze group (101.00±14.71s, P<0.05). The cell toxicity of 100% CA sponge was level 1, and it complied with the safety requirements for biomaterials. Conclusion The CA sponge has a good hemostatic property without obvious cytotoxicity.

OBJECTIVETo search for an optimum method for testicular prothesis implantation in the treatment of testis loss.
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the surgical methods and outcomes of 53 cases of terminal prostate cancer and 4 cases of unilateral testicular torsion treated by implantation of testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh.
RESULTSThe 57 male patients all received testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh. All the patients were satisfied with the appearance and size of the scrotum after surgery. No scrotal hematoma, prosthesis infection, or autoimmune disease occurred postoperatively.
CONCLUSIONTestis loss is not a rare condition clinically, for the treatment of which surgical implantation of testicular prothesis with the polypropylene mesh can achieve both a fine tissue compatibility and a desirable scrotal appearance.

Objective The current study is aimed to investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms and gene expression in peptidylarginine deiminase Ⅳ (PADI4) with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).Methods The gene expression of PADI4 was examined using real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymcrase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in 70 patients with RA and 81 healthy controls. Four exonie SNPs of the PADI4 gene (PADI4_89, _90, _92, _104) were genotyped using DNA sequencing and TA cloning. Results The distribution of PADI4_89, _90, _104 SNPs in RA was different from that of healthy controls. The increased RA susceptibility was significantly associated with minor alleles. When haplotypes were construe -ted with 4 SNPs, two major haplotypes, ACCC and GTGT were found in all samples, and GTGT haplo-type (carrying only the minor alleles) was significandy associated with increased RA susceptibility (P<0.01)in comparison with the reference haplotype ACCC. There was over expression of PADI4 in RA than controls(P<0.05). C, enotypes carrying the minor alleles had higher expression level of PADI4 in RA and controls than those with the common alleles. Conclusion PADI4 SNPs and haplotypes are associated with RA susceptibility in Chinese. PADI4 is over-expressed in the blood of RA patients, and there is significant association between the haplotypes and expression level of the PADI4 gene.

Objective Diabetic mice models were established.Hearts were separated from the body, reperfused after ischemia, and disposed of with the extraneous calcitonin gene-ralated peptide (CGRP),to prove if the CGRP had protective effect on the early-staged diabetic mice with cardiac ischemia.Method ICR mice were injected with Streptozocins intraperitoneally to establish diabetic model. The model mice and the normal mice were randomly divided into 4 groups:two diabetic groups, two control groups.Hearts of the experimental mice were taken out from the chest cavity alive, and hanged on the Langendorff steadily for 30min.Western blot and radioimmunoassay techniques were used to test expression of Vanilloid receptor(VR1) and CGRP in myocardic tissue;Madlab system was used to test the cardiac function, which including left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP),left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP),heart rate (HR),and coronary artery flow (CF),in the process of ischemic reperfusion,And ELISA assay kit was used to measure the concentration of the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in perfusion fluid collected from the heart.Result Expressions of VR1 and CGRP in diabetic hearts were significantly lower than those in normal ones 2 weeks later(P<0.01).By comparing with normal hearts, diabetic hearts had higher LVEDP and CF (P<0.05),and lower LVDP and HR(P<0.05).However,release of LDH were lower than normal ones (P<0.05).Predisposition of normal and diabetic hearts with CGRP can improve the cardiac function after ischemie injury. And the beneficial effect was more profound in early-staged diabetic hearts than in normal ones. Conclusion The diabetes disease(DM) can impair the expression of CGRP in myocardiac tissue. The extraneous CGRP may exert more potent protective effect on cardiac function in the early-staged diabetic heart.
