4.Combined therapy of acupuncture and neural stem cell transplantation in immature rats with cerebral palsy
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(45):7309-7313
BACKGROUND:Both acupuncture and neural stem cel therapy have good achievements in the treatment of cerebral palsy, but there are few reports about their combined therapy. OBJECTIVE:To observe the therapeutic effect of combined therapy of acupuncture and neural stem cel transplantation on cerebral palsy rats and to explore the relevant mechanism of action. METHODS: Cerebral palsy models were built in newborn rats, and then, the model rats were subjected to acupuncture, neural stem cel transplantation and their combination, respectively. Meanwhile, normal control group and model group were set up. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the other groups, in the combined therapy group, the behavior scores of cerebral palsy rats improved significantly (P < 0.05), the number of nerve cels and Bcl-2 protein expression were increased significantly (P < 0.05), and the number of apoptotic nerve cels and Bax protein expression were decreased significantly (P < 0.05). Additionaly, there were no significant differences in these indicators among the model, acupuncture and neural stem cel transplantation groups. These findings indicate that the combined therapy of acupuncture and neural stem cel therapy can obviously improve learning and memory ability of cerebral palsy rats and reduce neuronal apoptosis, which is probably associated with down-regulation of Bax protein and up-regulation of Bcl-2 protein.

6.Effect of acupuncture on neural cell apoptosis of cerebral palsy rats
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2016;20(27):4036-4042
BACKGROUND:Acupuncture has been shown to impact cerebral blood flow, relieve cerebral edema, improve microcirculation and reduce neural cel apoptosis in animals with cerebral palsy.
OBJECTIVE:To further verify the effect of acupuncture on neuronal apoptosis in cerebral palsy rats.
METHODS:Forty-five Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham group, model group and the acupuncture group, with 15 rats in each group. In the model and acupuncture groups, rat models of cerebral palsy were established by ligating the left common carotid artery. In the sham surgerygroup, the left common carotid artery was not ligated. Rats in the acupuncture group received acupuncture from 2 days after model induction, once a day, for 20 consecutive days. Rats in the sham surgery and model groups were left intact. At 21 days aftersurgery, neurological functions, pathomorphological changes and neuronal apoptosis were observed.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Motor function score was significantly lower in the model group than in the sham surgery group (P< 0.05). Motor function scorewas significantly higher in the acupuncture group than in the model group at 21 days (P< 0.05). (2) Hematoxylin-eosin staining: In the model group, cels were scattered. Inflammatory cel infiltration and cystis degeneration were found. The number of nerve cels was reduced. Degeneration, necrosis, gliosis and karyopyknosis were detected. Cavitation was visible in some cels. Cel bodies became smal. The structure was not distinct or disappeared. In the sham surgery group, the morphology and structure ofnerve cels were normal. In the acupuncture group, the changes in morphology and structure of nerve cels were found between the sham surgery and model groups. (3) The number of apoptotic cels was significantly greater in the model group than in the sham surgery group (P< 0.05). The number of apoptotic nerve cels was significantly higher in the acupuncture group than in the sham surgery group (P< 0.05), but significantly lower than in the model group (P< 0.05). (4) Results confirmed that acupuncture therapy can improve neurological function, reduce nerve cel apoptosis, and play a protective effect on nerve cels of rats with cerebral palsy.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2002;22(3):235-6, 264
To determine the relationship between Barrett's esophagus (BE) and features of gastroesophageal acid reflux, 24 h esophageal pH monitoring was performed in 90 patients. The patients were divided into 3 groups: 31 subjects with BE, 21 with mild esophagitis and 38 with severe esophagitis. The following parameters were evaluated: the percentage time of pH < 4; the number of reflux episodes over 5 min; the duration of longest episodes and DeMeester score over total period and the auterior three parameters in erect and supine position. All these parameters in BE were significantly different from those with mild esophagitis (P < 0.01) and not significantly different from those with severe esophagitis (P > 0.05). During supine position all the above parameters in BE were significantly different from those with reflux esophagitis (P < 0.05). It is concluded that the quantity of acid reflux is not an important factor in development of BE in gastroesophageal reflux (GER), and the acid reflux in supine position might be important in development of BE in GER.

Chinese Journal of Endemiology 2012;31(4):437-440
Objective To explore the spatial distribution of Keshan disease(KD) in the 15 surveillance provinces(municipalities, autonomous regions ) and to provide the basis for the development of prevention and control strategies.MethodsBased on the KD surveillance data of the 15 provinces in 2007,five indicators were selected. Moreover,a comprehensive indicator score to assess KD of different areas was made through the method of principle components analysis, which was applied for regionalization of the KD areas by the subsection method of standard deviation in whole China. The KD areas were divided into mild, moderate and severe endemic areas. The spatial distribution feature of the comprehensive indicator score was displayed by using geographic information system (GIS).ResultsThe three principal components contained 88.123% information of all the selected indicators, the first principal component had a close relationship with total KD detection rate, chronic KD detection rate and latent KD detection rate; the second principal component had a close relationship with the threatened number in KD areas, and the third principal component had a close relationship with new KD detection rate; the comprehensive indicator indicates that Gansu,Jilin,Heilongjiang,Hebei, and Liaoning provinces were serious prevalent KD areas; Inner Mongolia,Shandong,Hubei,Sichuang provinces (autonomous region) were moderate prevalent KD areas, and Shanxi,Shaanxi,Yunnan,Henan,Guizhou,Chongqing provinces(municipality)were mild prevalent KD areas. Conclusions The introduction of the GIS to Keshan disease monitoring, provides a convenient and direct method to observe the spatial distribution of the disease, and the results point out the key areas for further KD surveillance according to local conditions.
