1.Correlation between blood lipid levels and bone mineral density in men with hypertension in Xinjiang
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;19(20):3152-3157
BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that there is a certain correlation between blood lipid levels and bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, but their correlation in men is an open question, which has been less reported. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship between blood lipid levels and bone mineral density in Han and Uygur men with hypertension in Urumqi of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as wel as correlation of blood lipid levels with osteoporosis and osteopenia and difference between ethnics. METHODS: A total of 193 male patients with hypertension were categorized into Uygur (n=73) and Han (n=120) groups. Each group was subdivided into osteoporosis or osteopenia group and non-osteoporosis group. Bone mineral density and blood lipid level were analyzed and compared between groups. The correlation between osteoporosis and risk factors was analyzed using logistic regression method. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In Uygur hypertension men with osteoporosis or osteopenia, total cholesterol level was positively correlated with the bone mineral density of the femoral neck (r=0.43,P=0.01) and Ward's area (r=0.42, P=0.01); while there were no relationships between blood lipid levels and bone mineral density in Han hypertension men. When a Logistic regression analysis was performed, only total cholesterol level was found to be associated with the presence of osteoporosis or osteopenia after adjustment for body mass index, age and ethnics (OR=1.48,P=0.03). The blood lipid level is associated with bone mineral density in Han and Uygur men with hypertension from Urumqi of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which can affect the presence of osteoporosis.

BACKGROUND:Some studies have demonstrated that there is a clear correlation between osteocyte differentiation and leptin. Animal experiments have also confirmed that leptin indirectly inhibits the formation of osteoblasts through the central nervous system, but it also has some influences on the anabolism in bone microenvironment of osteoblasts. OBJECTIVE:To analyze the variation of serum leptin levels in older female patients with osteopenia, and the relationship between serum leptin levels, bone mineral density and related biochemical indexes of bone turnover. METHODS: The older female patients, aged≥ 60 years, who had lived in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for more than 30 years, were selected. Among these patients, 74 had osteoporosis, 111 had osteopenia, and 191 had normal bone mass. Serum leptin levels, bone alkaline phosphatase and other indicators of the patients were detected using enzyme-linked immunoassay method. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the normal group, the body mass index value and leptin level were significantly lower in the osteoporosis group (P < 0.01) and in the osteopenia group (P < 0.05). The bone mineral densities of al parts of patients in the osteoporosis group were lower than those in the osteopenia and normal groups (P < 0.01), and the bone mineral density value of patients in the ostopenia group was significantly lower than that in the normal group (P < 0.01). The serum leptin levels of older female patients with osteoporosis were significantly positively correlated with the bone mineral density value of the anteroposterior lumbar spine and the left hip bone (r=0.870,r=0.468,P < 0.01). The serum leptin levels of older female patients with osteopenia were significantly positively correlated with the bone mineral density value of the anteroposterior lumbar spine and the left hip (r=0.477, r=0.467,P < 0.01). The serum leptin levels of older female patients with osteoporosis were significantly positively correlated with body mass index (r=0.502,P < 0.01). These results suggest that reduced levels of serum leptin may play an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis and osteopenia in older female patients in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China.

OBJECTIVETo study the over-expression of mutant p53 protein in non-mucinous adenocarcinoma in-situ (NMAIS) and invasive adenocarcinoma, NOS of lung.
METHODSImmunohistochemical study for p53 protein was performed on 17 cases of NMAIS and 70 cases of invasive adenocarcinoma, NOS of lung. The difference in p53 over-expression between the two tumor subtypes was analyzed.
RESULTSThe over-expression of mutant p53 protein was observed in 0 case (0%) of NMAIS and 37 cases (52.9%) of invasive adenocarcinoma, NOS of lung. The difference was of statistical significance (P = 0.000).
CONCLUSIONMutant p53 protein over-expression may play a role in the progression of NMAIS to invasive adenocarcinoma, NOS.

Objective To study the neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin on intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Method The rat models of 1CH were produced by injecting autologous blood into caudate necleus by using stereotatic techique. One hundred ten male wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups, namely normal group, sham operation group, 1CU group, and EPO treatment group. The immunohistochemistry and TUNEL were used to detect expressions of Bc 1-2 and Bax,and apoptosis cells. LSD- t and Pearson correlation were used to analyzing data. Results The positive cells of TUNEL Bcl-2 and Bax in ICH group and EPO group obviously increased over 6 hours, and reached peak 72 hours later, and decreased over 120 hours, and the positive cells in different intervals significantly decreased in ICH group and EPO group compared with those in sham operation group (P < 0.01). The positive cells of TUNEL and Bax in EPO group in different intervals significantly decreased compared with those in ICH group (P < 0.01). The Bcl-2 positive cells in EPO group in different intervals significantly increased compared with those in ICH group (P < 0.01). The Bax protein expression, Bax/Bcl-2 and apoptosis presented positive correlation (P < 0.01). Conclusions Apoptosis may induce some brain injury after ICH,and EPO can decrease the number of apoptotic cells after ICH by up-regulating Bcl-2 and down-regulating Bax.

Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of male patients with systemic lupus ery thematosus in a cohort of Chinese patients. Methods 325 lupus nephritis patients (38 male and 287 female patients) admitted to our hospital from January 1997 to December 2006 were summarized in this cohort. The difference in manifestations and laboratory features were analyzed between male and female lupus nephritis patients. Results ① Male lupus nephritis patients had more frequent episodes of serositis (P<0.05),while fe male lupus nephritis patients more frequently had arthralgia, malar rash, oral ulcers and neuropsychiatric lu pus.② The kidney was involved with early stage of the disease in male patients. The rate of misdiagnosis was higher in male lupus nephritis patients than that of the female patients.③ The prevalence of ANA positivity and thrombocytopenia was higher in male patients than that of the female patients. The prevanee of positive anti-ENA antibody,anti-Sin antibody, anemia and hypergammaglobulinemia was lower in male patients than those of female patients. No difference was found in the presence of positive anti-RNP antibody, hypocom plementemia, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and leucoeytopenia between the two groups. Conclusion The clinical pictures of male systemic lupus erythematosus patients are atypical except for kidney involvement. The kidney involvement of male lupus patients is characterized by the early onset, rapid progression and high rate of misdiagnosis.Physicians should familiar with these differences.Early diagnosis and appropriate treat ment are essential for controlling disease progress.

Clinical re-evaluation is to verify the drug's safety and effectiveness again, while the drug itself has not been improved. However, due to the complexity of traditional Chinese medicine, ingredients in bulk drugs, prescription, productive processes, quality standards and other aspects need to be enhanced. So improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine by clinical re-evaluation is also very necessary. Therefore, except for achieving those basic requirements of medicine, it should also be improved on itself and pay full attention to the particularity, then traditional Chinese medicine's clinical re-evaluation will play its due role.
