Xiang-thinking is the main way of thinking in the form of traditional Chinese culture, which included Xiang and thinking. In viscera theory of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) formation, Xiang-thinking has run through and played a role in pushing forward on the formation of manifestation theories. Among five internal organs, take liver as an example. The formation of the liver manifestation is through the description of the liver and intuitive form and structure of the object, which were on the basis of the extract of abstract thinking, and the summarization on rules of the process. In this paper, the formation of liver manifestation theory was taken as an example to discuss the application of Xiang-thinking in formation of liver manifestation theory.

Psychiatry Investigation 2020;17(6):547-555
Objective:
Envy, as a stable personality trait, can affect individuals’ mental health. Specifically, previous studies have found that envy can lead to depression; however, the mechanism by which envy affects depression is still unclear. Therefore, based on the resilience framework, we used structural equation modeling to explore the mediating roles that social support and psychological resilience play between envy and depression.
Methods:
Chinese college students (n=680) were recruited to complete four scales: the Dispositional Envy Scale (DES), the Symptom Checklist 90-Depression Subscale (SCL-90-DS), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS).
Results:
The results confirmed that both social support and psychological resilience are significant mediators between envy and depression. Furthermore, social support plays a significant mediating role between envy and psychological resilience, and psychological resilience plays a significant mediating role between social support and depression. Specifically, the results indicated that envy not only directly increases the likelihood of developing depression, but also indirectly increases the likelihood of developing depression by affecting psychological resilience through negatively influencing social support.
Conclusion
This study provides a theoretical basis for enhancing psychological resilience and social support in order to ameliorate adverse effects of envy on depression.

Osteoporosis is a progressive metabolic disease. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), deficiency of the liver, spleen and kidney and blood stasis can induce osteoporosis. The main etiology was kidney deficiency which harmed the liver and spleen and causeqi-blood deficiency and blood stasis. The insufficiency of natural endowment and postnatal malnutrition caused poor nutrition of tendons and vessels, which induced debility of bone. This article discussed the etiology and pathogenesis of TCM understanding on osteoporosis in details. Opportunities and challenges of TCM in osteoporosis treatment were explored. The homology of Chinese medicine and food as well as the long-term of osteoporosis showed that TCM had incomparable superiority in osteoporosis treatment. While, the scientific research methods and reasonable evaluation of TCM safety were important to display its advantages in osteoporosis treatment.

Objective:To evaluate the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis in long-term cognitive impairment induced by multiple exposures to sevoflurane in the neonatal rats. Methods:Sixty SPF healthy neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 12-20 g, were divided into 3 groups ( n=20 each) using a random number table method: control group (group C), multiple exposures to sevoflurane for anesthesia group (group S) and ROS inhibitor group (group A). Group S and group A inhaled 3% sevoflurane for 2 h starting from 6, 7 and 8 days after birth, while group C inhaled air.In group A, ROS inhibitor N-acetylcysteine (NAC) 150 mg/kg was intraperitoneally injected before each anesthesia with sevoflurane. The spontaneous activity was evaluated by open field test on day 35 after birth. The cognitive function was determined by Morris water maze test on day 36 after birth. The rats were sacrificed after the end of Morris water maze test, and the hippocampal tissues were obtained for determination of the apoptosis rate of hippocampal neurons, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) (by flow cytometry) and levels of Cyt c and cleaved caspase-9 and caspase-3 (by Western blot). The expression of Bcl-2 and Bax mRNA was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The ultrastructure of mitochondria in hippocampal neurons was observed with a transmission electron microscope. Results:Compared with group C, the escape latency was significantly prolonged, the number of crossing the original platform was reduced, the apoptosis rate of hippocampal neurons and levels of ROS and MMP were increased, the expression of Cyt c, cleaved caspase-9, cleaved caspase-3 and Bax mRNA was up-regulated, the expression of Bcl-2 mRNA was down-regulated, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 was increased ( P<0.05), mitochondria were swollen, and mitochondrial cristae structure was broken in group S. Compared with group S, the escape latency was significantly shortened, the number of crossing the original platform was increased, the apoptosis rate of hippocampal neurons and levels of ROS and MMP were decreased, the expression of Cyt c, cleaved caspase-9, cleaved caspase-3 and Bax mRNA was down-regulated, the expression of Bcl-2 mRNA was up-regulated, the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 was decreased ( P<0.05), and the mitochondrial swelling and rupture of cristae structure were improved in group A. Conclusion:The mechanism by which multiple exposures to sevoflurane induce long-term cognitive impairment may be related to activating the ROS-mediated mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis in neonatal rats.
