As a kind of polyphenolic phytoalexin,resveratrol exerts protective roles in anti-tumor,antiinflammatory and promoting metabolism.Resveratrol's anti-tumor mechanisms may be involved in upregulating tumor suppressor microRNAs and downregulating oncogenic microRNAs,and affect its relative pathways and target genes in different cancers such as colon cancers and breast cancers.This will provide a new theoretical basis for the further clarification of resveratrol-associated tumor suppressing mechanisms and its application to the clinical.

Objective To assess the academic influence of schistosomiasis control and research institutions in China. Meth-ods The papers (including original articles and reviews) pertaining to schistosomiasis in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)of Web of Science(WOS)during the period from 2002 to 2012 were searched. The number of published papers,h index and citation frequencies of the papers of Chinese institutes and authors were analyzed by a bibliometric method,and the academic influences of the institutes and authors were assessed according to the number of published papers and h index. In addition,the scientific knowledge network map was plotted by using the CiteSpace II software to analyze the inter-institution academic collabora-tion network. Results From 2002 to 2012,totally 610 papers pertaining to schistosomiasis were published by Chinese scholars, accounted for 16.7%of the published papers in global,and the quantity increased year by year. The number of published papers and h index of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases(NIPD),China Center for Disease Control and Prevention(China CDC) were 114 and 27,respectively,both of which were ranked at the first position among all the Chinese institutes,and in the academ-ic collaboration network,the NIPD played a central and dominate part. Xiao-Nong Zhou with the h index of 17 became the out-standing academic leader in the research field of schistosomiasis control. Conclusions Both number of published papers in SCIE and h index of the Chinese institutes for schistosomiasis control are far inferior to the leading institutions in the world. It suggests that when strengthening the research and control of schistosomiasis,we should pay an attention to the output and sharing of the control experience and achievements.

This study investigated the growth-regulating effects of progesterone (Prog) on nPR-negative malignant melanoma cells and the possible mechanisms. A375 and A875 cells were cultured and treated with Prog of different concentrations. For signal transduction pathway studies, the cells were pretreated with Prog receptor antagonist (RU486, 1x10(-7) mol/L) or MAPK inhibitor (U0126, 5x10(-6) mol/L) for 1 h and then co-incubated with prog (10(-9) mol/L) for another 24 h. Indirect immunofluorescence assay, MTT, flow cytometry and Western blotting were used for assessing the nPR expression, cell growth, cell apoptosis and ERK1/2 Phosphorylation, respectively. Our results showed that lower progesterone concentration promoted the proliferation of both A375 and A875 cells, but this growth-stimulatory effect decreased at progesterone concentration of 1x10(-7) mol/L or higher. The response could be abolished by MAPK inhibitor U0126, but could not be blocked by progesterone antagonist RU486. Flow cytometry exhibited that high concentration ([Symbol: see text]1 x 10(-7) mol/L) progesterone increased the apoptosis of the two cells in a dose-dependent manner. The level of ERK1/2 phosphorylation was increased by a lower progesterone concentration, but reduced by a higher concentration (1x10(-6) mol/L). These results suggest progesterone exerts growth-regulating effects on nPR-negative tumor cells through a non-genomic mechanism.

BACKGROUND: Cell apoptosis and expression of related apoptotic gene are found in rats with acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of ganglioside on cell apoptosis in rats with acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.DESIGN: Randomized control animal experiment.SETTING: Department of Neurology, China-Japan Friendship Hospital of Jilin University.MATERIALS: The experiment was conducted in the Animal Laboratory of China-Japan Friendship Hospital of Jilin University at April 2002.Forty-eight healthy male Wistar rats aged 3-4 months with the body mass of (220±50) g were selected and randomly divided into ischemia-reperfusion group and ischemia-reperfusion + administration group (intraperitoneal injection of ganglioside GM-1 at 30 minutes before ischemia) with 24 rats in each group, and each group was subdivided into three groups according to the reperfusion time: 3-hour, 6-hour and 24-hour with 8 rats in each time-point.METHODS: ①Rat models of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion were established. ②Diphenylamine method was adopted to detect changes of DNA splitting rate in brain tissues at 3 hours,6 hours and 24 hours after cerebral ischemia.100 mg of cerebral cortex was made into 10% homogenate by adding into 0.9 mL of splitting fluid,which was then put in the centrifuge tube for repeated freezing and melting. The supernatant and deposit were collected.DNA splitting rate = supernatant absorption/(supernatant absorption + deposit absorption). ③Immunohistochemical method was used to study the expression of protein kinase Cδ (PKCδ) as well as changes of ganglioside after administration. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Changes of DNA splitting rate in cerebral cortex of rats as well as intensity of PKCδ expression.RESULTS: One rat in the normal saline control group died for exceeding anesthetization at the 6th hour of reperfusion, and 2 rats died at the 24th hour of reperfusion, which were supplemented respectively. With the time of reperfusion increasing, changes of DNA splitting rate significantly increased, which peaked at the 24th hour. The expression of PKCδ peaked at the 6th hour of reperfusion and gradually decreased. The DNA splitting rate and PKCδ expression were remarkably decreased at corresponding time-points in the ganglioside group.CONCLUSION: Ganglioside can inhibit cell apoptosis and reduce PKCδ expression after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion to protect cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of platelet-derived growth factor A (PDGF-A) on placenta tissue from pre-eclampsia.Methods The expression of PDGF-A in the placenta of 38 pre-eclampsia patients and 22 normal pregnant women at third trimester was detected by immunohistochemistry method.Results (1)PDGF-A was mainly expressed in the cytomembrane and cytoplasm of cytotrophoblasts and the endothelial cell of capillary in placenta.(2) The rates of PDGF-A expression of cytotrophoblasts were 63% (24/38) in pre-eclampsia group and 32% (7/22) in normal pregnancy group,which exhibited significant difference (P ＜0.05).(3) The rates of PDGF-A expression of endothelial cell were 68% (26/38) in pre-eclampsia group and 27% (6/22) in normal pregnancy group,which also showed significant difference (P ＜0.01).(4)The rates of PDGF-A expression of cytotrophoblasts were 39% (7/18) in mild pre-eclampsia patients and 85% (17/20) in severe pre-eclampsia,which reached statistical difference (P ＜ 0.01).Conclusion The increasing expression of PDGF-A in cytotrophoblast and endothelial cell in placenta might confer the occurrence and progression of preeclampsia.

Objective:To explore the clinical effect of simultaneous whole-course hyperfractionated intensity-modulated radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy and nimotuzumab in the treatment of advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Methods:A total of 64 patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma who were admitted to Kaiping Central Hospital of Guangdong Province from June 2017 to January 2019 were selected and divided into the observation group and control group according to the random number table method, with 32 cases in each group. Both groups were given chemotherapy and nimotuzumab on the basis of radiotherapy. The observation group received simultaneous whole-course hyperfractionated intensity-modulated radiation therapy, and the control group received conventional fractionated intensity-modulated radiation therapy. The short-term efficacy, Karnofsky score, overall survival rate, progression-free survival rate, acute radiation reaction, and late radiation injury in the two groups were observed.Results:Six months after radiotherapy, the efficient rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group [96.9% (31/32) vs. 75.0% (24/32), χ2 = 6.335, P < 0.05]. At the end of radiotherapy and 3 months after the end of radiotherapy, the Karnofsky scores of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant [(75±3) points vs. (71±3) points, t = 5.891, P < 0.05; (80±4) points vs.(77±4) points, t = 3.201, P = 0.002]. All patients were well tolerated, no grade 4 acute radiation reaction was observed, and radiotherapy was completed as planned. The incidence rate of oral mucosal reaction in the observation group was lower than that in the control group [21.9% (7/32) vs. 50.0% (16/32), χ2 = 5.497, P < 0.05]. The incidence rates of severe dry mouth and neck soft tissue fibrosis in the observation group were lower than those in the control group [6.2% (2/32) vs. 28.1% (9/32), χ2 = 5.379, P = 0.043; 3.1% (1/32) vs. 21.9% (7/32), χ2 = 5.143, P < 0.05]. The follow-up time was 14-20 months, and the median follow-up time was 17 months. There was no statistical difference in overall survival time between the two groups ( χ2 = 0.553, P = 0.557). The progression-free survival time of the observation group was better than that of the control group ( χ2 = 3.954, P = 0.044). Conclusion:The simultaneous whole-course hyperfractionated intensity-modulated radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy and nimotuzumab are effective in the treatment of advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and the adverse reactions can be tolerated.

To investigate whether LL-37 and human beta defensin-2 (hBD-2) is related to the patients with psoriasis seldom having skin infections and explore the role of the two peptides and CCR6 (the receptor of hBD-2) in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, the expression levels of mRNA of LL-37, hBD-2, and CCR6 in skin lesions of patients with psoriasis vulgaris were detected by using RT-PCR. The results showed that the mRNA expression levels of the two peptides and CCR6 in psoriatic lesions all increased compared with the normal skin (P<0.001). It was suggested that up-regulated expression of LL-37 and hBD-2 might be the main reason that result in the the skin of patients with psoriasis being seldom infected, and the two peptides and CCR6 might play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Objective To study the feasibility and timing of early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) for the patients with mild-to-moderate acute pancreatitis with gallbladder stone.Methods 26 patients with mild-to-moderate acute pancreatitis with gallbladder stone underwent early laparoscopic cholecystectomy.The patients were initially treated with conservative treatment.When the diagnosis was confirmed and the patients were stable,LC was carried out within 48 hours of hospitalization.The results were compared with a delayed group of patients who received delayed LC for acute pancreatitis.Results All the LC operations were successfully carried out.There were no significant differences between the two groups in alkaline phosphatase,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,blood amylase and urine armylase on postoperative day 1,3,5,7.Patients who received early laparoscopic cholecystectomy had a shorter hospital stay.There were no significant differences between the two groups in the operation time,intraoperative blood loss,postoperative complication rates and recurrence of acute pancreatifis.Conclusion After CBD stones have been ruled out,it is safe and feasible to carry out early laparoscopic cholecystectomy within 48 hours of hospital admission for patients with mild-to-moderate acute pancreatitis with gallbladder stone.

Objective To investigate the clinicopathologic features of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine carcinomas. MethodsThe diagnosis and treatment results of 45 cases were studied, and clinicopathologic features and immunohistochemical expressions of NSE, Syn and CgA were detected.ResultsMicroscopically carcinomas were divided into three types: type Ⅰ(25 cases), type Ⅱ(10 cases) and type Ⅲ(10 cases). The histologic categories were correlated with lymph node metastasis significantly( P0.05). The 5-year survival rate for type Ⅰ, type Ⅱ and type Ⅲ was 70%, 65% and 52%, respectively.ConclusionsThe combination of NSE, Syn and CgA immunohistochemical stainnig is necessary for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal neuroendocrine carcinomas. The histologic classification is coincident with the requirement of clinical treatment and prognosis.
