Objective To investigate the possible causes for asymptomatic process of hepatic artery thrombosis in the patients following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Methods Hepatic functional tests, color Doppler ultrasonic observation, hepatic arteriographic examinations were done during the course of the development of the hepatic arteriothrombosis. All possible factors leading to the asymptomatic process were comprehensively analyzed. Results At the 4th postoperative day, thrombosis started to form along the anastomosis line. At the 21st postoperative day, the artery became completely thromboses. During this course, serial liver biopsy revealed introhepatic cholestasis, hydropic degeneration of hepatocytes, atrophy of the biliary epithelium and fibrosis in the portal area. Serial monitoring of liver function gradually revealed normal with the exception of elevation of r-GT and ALP. At the 71st day after OLT, arteriography showed that hepatic artery remained completely occluded, while the collateral circulation and compensatory expansion of the portal vein were established. The patient didn't have any symptoms of arterial thrombosis. Conclusions In this case, it was the collateral circulation and the compensation of the portal vein that made the allograft survive and helped to prevent the patient from retransplantation after hepatic artery thrombosis. Color Doppler ultrasonic examinations within 2 weeks following OLT were helpful to the early diagnosis of hepatic arteriothrombosis.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus ( T1DM),arising through a complex interaction of immune, genetic and environmental factors, results from autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing β cells. In up to one third of patients the autoimmune attack is not limited to β cells, but expands into autoimmune polyendocrine syndromes(APS).APS are characterized by functional insufficiency of multiple endocrine organs due to an immunologically mediated destructive process.APS can commonly be divided into three types, including APS type Ⅰ,APS type Ⅱ and immune dysregulation,polyendocrinopathy,enteropathy,X-Linked syndrome (IPEX).Here,we discuss the susceptible factors, clinical manifestation, screening and treatment of APS,with the perspective of the clues they can offer to the pathogenesis and treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Objective To explore the association between th e heparan sulfate proteoglycan gene (HSPG) polymorphism and diabetic nephropathy in Chinese. Methods A case control study of 326 Chinese s ubjects including 136 type 2 diabetics with or without nephropathy and 190 non- diabetic control was performed.Genotype frequencies of HSPG2 polymorphism were s tudied by PCR-RFLP analysis with BamHI digestion. Results There was no difference in genotype frequencies or allele frequencies between normal albuminuria and abnormal albuminuria patients. Moreover, there was no assoc iation between diabetic patients and non-diabetic control in allele frequencies as well, but obvious difference in genotype frequencies(0.05>P>0.025) was found. Conclusion Our study showed the lack of association between HSPG polymorphism and diabetic nephropathy in Chinese type 2 diabetics. There may be association between genotype frequencies of HSPG polymorphism and d iabetes in statistics.

Aquaporin adipose (AQPap) is the physiological glycerol channel specific to adipocytes. By means of semiquantitive RT-PCR and Western blotting, this study showed that insulin was a negative regulator of AQPap expression, while high concentration of glucose could increase AQPap expression.

Purpose:To evaluate the short-term effect of combination chemotherapy of oxaliplatin plus capecitabine on advanced cancer.Methods:32 patients of advanced gastric cancer were treated with oxaliplatin plus capecitabine for 76 weeks. Results:There were 6 CR, 16 PR, 8 NC, 2 PD, in our group and the overall response rate was 68.75% (22/32). The median alleviative time was 8 months, the median survival time was 12 months and the one-year survival rate was 55%. 30(93.75%) patients benefited from this method. The side effects were all tolerable which were alleviated by active therapy. There was no death and nobody stopped chemotherapy because of side effects. Conclusions:Combination chemotherapy of oxaliplatin plus capecitabine to treat advanced gastric cancers was certainly effective and tolerable to toxicities. This chemotherapy will be used as the first-line in more patients and is worthy of further study.[

The observations on cytomorphology and cytodynamics of cultured rabbit arterial smooth muscle cells(SMC)under concentrations of glucose 5.55,11.1,16.7,33.4 and 55.5 mmol/L with or without hyperlipidemic serum(HLS)were carried out by light microscopy and transmission election microscopy. The results showed that①The extent of disruption in SMC was positively correlated with concentrations of glucose, and negatively correlated with the multipication ralte of DNA,a parameter of cytodynamics.②There was no synergistic effect between glucose and HLS in the development of atherosclerosis.③In high glucose concentration groups(glucose 16.7mmol/L)a calcifies particle of high electronic density like substance, probably the core of atherosclerosis was found in SMC. Our results suggest that to keep lower levels of blood glucose and blood lipids may delay the development of atherosclerosis.

A study of the effects of glucagon in concentrations of 100,1000 and 10000 ng/L with or without hyperlipidemic serum(HLS)on the cytomorphology and cytodynamics of cultured rabbit arterial smooth muscle cells(SMC) was carried out by light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and isotope technique,The results were as follows:①No effect of glucagon in concentration of 100 ng/L on SMC in both cytomorphology and cytodynamics was found.②Glucagon in concentration of 1000 or 10000 ng/L caused slight damage of SMC,and tended to inhibit the multiplication rate of DNA,a parameter of cytodynamics.Furthermore, lipidic substance in SMC was found under such concentrations of glucagon without HLS,which was favorable for formation of foam cells,③There was positively synergistic effect between glucagon and HLS in the development of atherosclerosis. Our results suggest that to keep lower levels of plasma glucagon and lipids in diabetic patients may delay the development of atherosclerosis.

Objective To observe the influence of Electro-Acupuncture on free amino acid in brain tissue of diabetic rats. Method The diabetic rats were induced by the intra-abdominal injection of alloxan (100 mg/kg once a day for two days). Electro-Acupuncture on Bai Hui and Da Zhui together with quick puncturing along Pang Guang meridian on the back, especially the back Shu points of five Zang organs were applied to alloxan-diabetic rats. Blood glucose and free amino acid were investigated after 6 weeks of Electro-Acupuncture treatment. Results The blood glucose of Electro-Acupuncture group was decreased obviously after treatment (P

Insulin sensitivity index (SI).glucose effectiveness (SG) and insulin secretion function were assessed by modified minimal model method (MMM) with frequently sampled intravenous glucose tolerance (FSIGT) test in the controls, in patients with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and type II diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). There was significant correlation between modified MMM and standard MMM in evaluating SI and SG. The results indicated that SI and SG were significantly elevated in the control than in the IGT and NTDDM groups. SI diminished much more in IGT group than in NIDDM group (P
