Neurons and glia in the central nervous system can express the key enzymes for the synthesis of neurosteroids .Once the concentration of neurosteroids is high enough , they will exert paracrine effects .Synthesis of neurosteroids declines with age in brain .So does it under stressful circumstances .Recent research reports indicate that the decrease of neurosteroids is associated with the neuronal dysfunction and degeneration in the brain .This paper reviews recent research on the most studied neurosteroids ( for example , dehydroepiandrosterone , pregnenolone and their sulphate esters, progesterone and allopregnanolone ) in affecting neuronal survival , neurite outgrowth and neurogenesis , and the potential roles of these neurosteroids in the treatment of neurodegenerative disease as well .

Chinese Journal of Medical Education Research 2020;19(3):359-363
Objective:To investigate the cognitive status of professionalism among medical college students and ways to cultivate physician professionalism. Methods:According to the literature and interview, we made the questionnaire on the cognition of physician professionalism among medical students. A total of 512 valid questionnaires (including e-questionnaires) were collected from medical students of Shantou University Medical College and Qingdao University Medical College of Shandong Province from May to September, 2017. SPSS 20.0 software was used to perform the normality and single-sample t-test on physician professionalism, professional cognition, professional emotion and professional willingness. Quantitative data was analyzed by cross-table chi-square test and mean-standard deviation. Results:The professional cognition scored lowest (3.62±0.50) in the three dimensions, the professional willingness scored the highest (4.35±0.58), and the professional emotional scored in the middle (4.05±0.48). There was significant difference in physician professionalism among medical students with different family background ( P<0.05), but no statistical difference in gender and school system. Conclusion:The results demonstrate a low-to-medium level of physician professionalism in medical students. We suggest to cultivate and promote physician professionalism from the aspects of emphasis on objectivity, and cultivation of humanism and service consciousness.

Pancreatic fistula is a common and serious complication after pancreatic surgery. Pancreatic fistula, intra-abdominal infection and hemorrhage are known as the " lethal triad" after pancreatic surgery, which seriously affect the curative efficacy of operation. Although the incidence of pancreatic fistula has not been significantly reduced, there have been a large number of studies on the risk factors of pancreatic fistula and the means of prevention and therapy, which try to minimize the harm of pancreatic fistula. In this article we review the recent development of the latest definition, high risk factors and treatment of postoperative pancreatic fistula according to relevant literatures at home and abroad, aiming at summarizing the research advances on the therapy of pancreatic fistula after pancreatic surgery.

Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery 2019;18(7):629-633
Pancreatic cancer is a digestive system malignant tumor with extremely poor prognosis. With the rapid development of science and technology, although breakthrough results has been achieved in basic research of pancreatic cancer and some achievement in surgical techniques and adjuvant treatment approach, the survival of patients with pancreatic cancer has not been significantly improved.Among them, the serious disconnection between basic research and clinical practice has led to a slow improvement in the diagnosis and therapy. As a bridge between basic research and clinical work, translational medicine can promote progress of the early detection and precision treatment of pancreatic cancer, thus providing new hope for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Objective :
To investigate the protective effect of melatonin (MT) on formaldehyde (FA) inhalation-in- duced acute lung injury (ALI) in rats and its mechanism through the regulation of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway.
Methods :
Fifty female Wistar rats were randomly divided into Control group ,FA group,FA + MT 5 mg / kg group,FA + MT 10 mg / kg group and FA + MT 20 mg / kg group, with 10 rats in each group.Except for the Control group, all other groups inhaled 3 mg / m3 FA daily for 21 d consecutively to construct the tainted model, and then treated with different MT doses for 14 d.The tainting was continued during the MT treatment.Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was used to observe the histopathological changes in lung tissue, lung water content and lung coefficient were weighed and measured, glutathione ( GSH) ,superoxide dismutase (SOD) and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine ( 8-OHdG) levels were measured by absorbance photometric method ,and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to measure the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) ,in- terleukin (IL) -6,and IL-1 β concentrations,Western blot to detect the protein expression levels of Nrf2,heme ox- ygenase-1 (HO-1) ,nuclear factor-κB ( NF-κB) ,and phosphorylated nuclear factor-κB ( p-NF-κB) in lung tis- sues, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) to detect the Nrf2,HO-1,and Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) mRNA expression levels.
Results :
Compared with the control group, lung injury was obvious in rats in the FA group ; lung tissue GSH and SOD levels were reduced ,and 8-OHdG levels were elevated ( P < 0. 05) ; alveolar lavage fluid TNF-α , IL-6,and IL-1 β levels were elevated (P<0. 05) ; Nrf 2 and HO-1 protein expression levels were reduced in the lung tissue (P<0. 05) ,and p-NF-κB protein expression levels were was ele- vated (P<0. 05) ; the relative mRNA expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 in lung tissue was decreased, and the relative mRNA expression of Keap1 was elevated (P<0. 05) .Compared with the FA group, the lung injury of rats in the MT group was improved ; the levels of GSH and SOD in the lung tissue were increased (P<0. 05) ,and the level of 8-OHdG was decreased (P<0. 05) ; the levels of TNF-α , IL-6,and IL-1 β in the alveolar lavage fluid were de- creased (P<0. 05) ; and the expression levels of the Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins in the lung tissue were increased (P <0. 05) .p-NF-κB protein expression level was decreased (P <0. 05) ; the relative mRNA expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 in lung tissues were increased (P<0. 05) ,and the relative mRNA expression level of Keap1 was decreased (P<0. 05) in lung tissues, and all of them were in a dose-dependent manner.
Conclusion
MT can al- leviate oxidative stress and inflammatory responses and mitigate FA exposure-induced acute lung injury by regula- ting the Nrf2 / Keap1 / HO-1 signaling pathway.
