Objective To evaluate the necessity of concomitant bladder cuff and the possibility of distal ureter sparing surgery during radical nephroureterectomy of low-level upper urinary tract tumors. Methods Clinical data of 73 patients with low-level (Tis-T3 M0 N0 ) tumors of the proximal upper urinary transitional epithelial cancer treated in radical nephroureterectomy in our hospital from 2000 to 2007 were analyzed retrospectively. The medical charts and pathologic specimens of 35 patients with, and 38 patients without, concomitant bladder cuff were reviewed. Results In the 35 patients with concomitant bladder cuff resection, 8 cases (22.9%) recurrence was observed; in the 38 patients without concomitant bladder cuff resection, 8 cases (21.1%) recurrence was observed. There was no difference between both groups(P>0.05). In the 19 patients suffered renal pelvis tumors with concomitant bladder cuff resection, 4 cases (21.1%) recurrence was observed; In the 16 patients suffered ureter tumors with concomitant bladder cuff resection, 4 cases (25 %) recurrence was observed. There is no difference between patients of renal pelvis tumors and of ureter tumors with concomitant bladder cuff(P>0.05). In the 27 patients suffered renal pelvis tumors without concomitant bladder cuff resection, 3 cases (11.1 %) recurrence was observed; in the 11 patients suffered ureter tumors with concomitant bladder cuff, 5 cases (45.5%) recurrence was observed. There was significant different between patients of renal pelvis tumors and of ureter tumors without concomitant bladder cuff (P<0. 05). Conclusion Concomitant bladder cuff resection confers a favorable prognosis to the patients with ureter tumors, but not to the patients with renal pelvis tumors.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(25):4069-4075
BACKGROUND:Titanium al oy with good biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties have been widely used in clinic. How to give its excel ent antibacterial properties so as to cope with plant-associated infections has become a research focus in recent years. OBJECTIVE:To review the principle, techniques, classification and relative merits of antimicrobial coating. METHODS:A computer-based search of Scopus database and VIP database was performed by the first author to retrieve relevant articles published from January 1990 to January 2014 using the keywords of“titanium al oy, plant, antibacterial, coating”. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Coatings can be classified into antibiotic coating, non-antibiotic organic antimicrobial coating, inorganic antibacterial coating, anti-adhesion coating, antibacterial bioactive polymer coating, al of which have better biocompatibility, but also have their limitations. Current studies concerning antimicrobial coatings mainly focus on how to enhance the binding force between antimicrobial coating and the substrate as wel as how to get a good anti-bacterial ability, biocompatibility, high wear resistance and persistence;antibacterial phase structure and distribution effects on the bacterial colonization. The antibacterial phase structure and distribution is the key factor for the antimicrobial properties of titanium al oys with either entirely added anti-bacterial elements or surface coating.

Objective To study the presence of microflammation state in ESRD patients and the relationship between microinflammation state and atherosclerosis. Methods Inflammatory cytokines and carotid artery B ultrasound data of 246 ESRD patients and 43 cases with normal renal function as control were collected. The presence of microflammation state and its relationship to atherosclerosis were studied. Results The levels of inflammatory cytokines(CRP,IL 6,TNF ?)in ESRD patients were mostly in normal range, but still much higher than those in control.According to the level of CRP,the patients were divided into three groups.Significant differences of carotid artery B ultrasound and prevalence of cerebrocardiovasculer events were found between two groups with CRP levels less and higher than 4 mg/L. According to the history of atherosclerosis cerebrocardiovasculer disease, patients were divided into two groups. Levels of CRP, IL 6, TNF ?were higher in patients with cerebrocardiovasculer disease than those in patients without, but still in normal range. Conclusions There is a microinflammation status in ESRD patients. The microinflammation status may be a risk factor of high prevalence and mortality of atherosclerosis related cardiovascular events in ESRD patients.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2014;34(6):885-889
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the diagnostic value of salivary and plasma miR-21 in patients with esophageal cancer (EC).
METHODSTotal RNA was extracted from saliva and plasma samples from 50 stage I and 50 stage II patients with EC and 50 healthy controls for measurement of miR-21 levels using qPCR. The diagnostic values of salivary and plasma miR-21 levels were assessed for stage I, stage II, and stage I+II EC.
RESULTSSalivary and plasma miR-21 were significantly higher in the EC patients than in the control group. The diagnostic sensitivities of plasma miR-21 for stage I, stage II, and stage I+II EC were 96%, 64% and 97%, with specificities of 44%, 84%, and 56%, respectively; the sensitivities of salivary miR-21 were 90%, 88%, and 89%, respectively, with the same specificities of 64%. Regardless of EC staging, the expression of plasma miR-21 showed a significant positive correlation with that of salivary miR-21, and their diagnostic values were comparable.
CONCLUSIONBoth salivary and plasmatic miR-21 can be sensitive biomarkers for EC, and salivary miR-21 detection has the potential to replace plasma detection for EC diagnosis.

Toxoplasma gondii, an intracellular protozoan parasite that infects one-third of the world’s population, has been reported to hijack host cell apoptotic machinery and promote either an anti- or proapoptotic program depending on the parasite virulence and load and the host cell type. However, little is known about the regulation of human FHs 74 small intestinal epithelial cell viability in response to T. gondii infection. Here we show that T. gondii RH strain tachyzoite infection or ESP treatment of FHs 74 Int cells induced apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and ER stress in host cells. Pretreatment with 4-PBA inhibited the expression or activation of key molecules involved in ER stress. In addition, both T. gondii and ESP challenge-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and cell death were dramatically suppressed in 4-PBA pretreated cells. Our study indicates that T. gondii infection induced ER stress in FHs 74 Int cells, which induced mitochondrial dysfunction followed by apoptosis. This may constitute a potential molecular mechanism responsible for the foodborne parasitic disease caused by T. gondii.
8.Symbiotic homeostasis of Staphylococcus epidermidis is associated with common skin disorders
Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2023;56(5):459-462
Staphylococcus epidermidis can exhibit both protective and opportunistic pathogenic effects on the skin: on the one hand, it suppresses pathogenic bacteria and inflammation, assists the innate immune system of the skin, and maintains homeostasis of skin microenvironment; on the other hand, it exhibits pathogenic potential. How Staphylococcus epidermidis affects human skin conditions depends not only on itself, but also on the communication among it, the host immune system, other microorganisms and environment factors. The balance of this interaction is the symbiotic homeostasis of Staphylococcus epidermidis, and when the homeostasis is disrupted, a variety of skin diseases such as acne vulgaris, atopic dermatitis, rosacea and melanoma can occur. Factors affecting the symbiotic homeostasis of Staphylococcus epidermidis include environmental conditions such as temperature, oxygen content and nutrition, antibiotics, the number of other microorganisms, microecological diversity, etc. This review summarizes recent research progress in symbiotic homeostasis of Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Objective:
To investigate craniofacial differences in individuals with hypodontia and explore the relationship between craniofacial features and the number of congenitally missing teeth.
Methods:
A cross-sectional study was conducted among 261 Chinese patients (males, 124; females, 137; age, 7–24 years), divided into four groups (without hypodontia: no teeth missing, mild: one or two missing teeth, moderate: three to five missing teeth, severe: six or more missing teeth) according to the number of congenitally missing teeth. Differences in cephalometric measurements among the groups were analyzed. Further, multivariate linear regression and smooth curve fitting were performed to evaluate the relationship between the number of congenitally missing teeth and the cephalometric measurements.
Results:
In patients with hypodontia, SNA, NA-AP, FH-NA, ANB, Wits, ANS-Me/N-Me, GoGn-SN, UL-EP, and LL-EP significantly decreased, while Pog-NB, AB-NP, N-ANS, and S-Go/N-Me significantly increased. In multivariate linear regression analysis, SNB, Pog-NB, and S-Go/N-Me were positively related to the number of congenitally missing teeth. In contrast, NA-AP, FH-NA, ANB, Wits, N-Me, ANS-Me, ANS-Me/N-Me, GoGn-SN, SGn-FH (Y-axis), UL-EP, and LL-EP were negatively related, with absolute values of regression coefficients ranging from 0.147 to 0.357. Further, NA-AP, Pog-NB, S-Go/N-Me, and GoGn-SN showed the same tendency in both sexes, whereas UL-EP and LL-EP were different.
Conclusions
Compared with controls, patients with hypodontia tend toward a Class III skeletal relationship, reduced lower anterior face height, flatter mandibular plane, and more retrusive lips. The number of congenitally missing teeth had a greater effect on certain characteristics of craniofacial morphology in males than in females.
