Objective Evaluation of application of looping vascushunt tubes in microsurgical total removal of para sinus meningiomas Methods Eighteen patients harboring para sinus meningiomas were treated in our hospital from Feb,2000 to Mar,2002,Tumors were located in the posterior two thirds superior sagittal sinus in 17 patients and in the congenitally isolated transverse sinus in one patient Looping vascushunt were applied in all cases and tumors were removed under microscope using microsurgical techniques Results Tumors and involved sinus walls were resected (Simpson grade Ⅰ) in all patients Venous sinus reconstruction were achieved in 12 patients using artificial blood vessels,sinus walls were repaired with duramater in 4 patient, venous sinus ligation was applied in two patients because of the sufficent collateral venous drainage All patients recovered and no mortality occurred Conclusions Application of vascushunt tubes is one of the important techniques in microsurgical total resection of para sinus meningiomas

ObjectiveTo study the impact of high chromium yeast on type 2 diabetic mice.MethodsA total of 60 Balb/C mice were used in this study.Fifty mice were injected with streptozotocin to induce type 2 diabetes,while the ten mice without injection were in the normal group.The type 2 diabetic mice were divided into 5groups according to their fasting blood sugar levels,including 3 groups receiving high chromium yeast at low [250μg/ (kg· d)],medium [500 μg/ (kg,d)],and high [1000 μg/ (kg· d)] doses,1 group receiving metformin ( positive control),and 1 group receiving normal yeast ( negative control).The yeast or metformin were given through by gastric lavage daily for 15 weeks.Body mass and blood biochemical indexes (fasting blood glucose,glucose tolerance,etc) were determined,and the pathological examination of pancreas was conducted.Results Compared with negative control group,medium dose high chromium yeast group had significantly lower triglyceride ( P =0.043 ),low and medium dose groups had lower total cholesterol ( P =0.006,P =0.003 ),low and high dose groups had higher insulin levels (P =0.011,P =0.002),and high dose group had significantly reduced glycosylated hemoglobin (P =0.027).Pathological examination of pancreatic islets revealed that medium and high dose groups did not develop infiltration of inflammatory cells.ConclusionsHigh chromium yeast may improve type 2 diabetes mellitus.Further studies are needed to confirm the conclusion of this study with an organic chromium control group.

PMV (Predicted Mean Vote) is a widely used index for evaluating the thermal environment. However, few studies have been conducted to take physiological values directly as evaluating indices. This paper assumes a linear relation between body temperature and both sweating rate and heat produced by shivering, and introduces the linear relation into the human heat balance equation to revise the classic PMV. And the assumption of linear relation is subsequently proved. The revised PMV possesses the same characteristic of dependent heat load as that of the classic one, and moreover it is convenient to be calculated.

AIM: By studying the ultrastructure of organs (hearts, brains, lungs, livers, kidneys) and vascular endothelial cells, and changes of physiological and biochemical indexes with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome in the elderly rats, their signification and their developing rules were analyzed. METHODS: Wistar rats(Half of Wister rats were three-month-old and another half of twenty-month-old) were anaesthetized and dealt with cecal ligation puncture (CLP) operation. They were defined as MODSE group and MODSY group, respectively. They were perfused through all vascular circulation by 1% glutaric dialdehyde. Objective To explore main influencing factors of postgraduate entrance examination of medical students in medical universities and to provide guidance for postgraduate entrance examination and employment.Methods Totally 300 2008 and 2009 grade undergraduates of Kunming Medical University were enrolled and divided into postgraduate entrance examination group (n =181)and non postgraduate entrance examination group (n =97).Self-designed questionnaire was used.Intentions of postgraduate entrance examination of two groups and main factors of not taking postgraduate entrance examination were analyzed.Softwares of Excel 2003 and SPSS 17.0 were applied to do constituent ratio analysis and x2 test of gender and residence.Results Among all enrolled students,71.2％ paid attention to the entrance exam and 65.1％ said that they would take part in the entrance exam.There was no significant differences in taking entrance exam between males and females (x2 =3.213,P=0.073).Age (74.1％),family economic situation (71.1％) and current employment status (68.1％) were the main influencing factor of graduate entrance exam.There were significant differences between factors of age and family economic situation and factors of gender and census register (x2 =4.810,P =0.028 and x2 =9.612,P =0.002).There was no significant difference between factors of age and family economic situation and factor of current employment status (x2 =0.279,P =0.597).Conclusions Age,family economical situation and current employment situation are major influencing factors of postgraduate entrance examination for medical students.Postgraduate entrance examination for medical students needs positive guidance and more care from schools,society and family.Medical students should form correct view for employment and postgraduate entrance examination according to their own condition.

Objective To explore the mechanism of cytokines for the scars,and to study the effect of platelet derived growth factor(PDGF)on the biological behavior of fibroblasts in scars.Methods Fibroblasts of scars and normal skins were cultured in vitro.The results were observed and analyzed by light inverted microscopy(LM),and 3-(4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-2,5 ciphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT)assay.The effects of PDGF on the biological behaviors of fibroblasts of scars were also determined. Results In vitro study,using LM,FCM and MTT assay,showed that proliferation of fibroblasts were inereased significantly when PDGF was added to the cultures,as compared to the control groups.Conclusions PDGF can increase fibroblast proliferation.These results demonstrate that PDGF is beneficial for wound healing at early stage.

BACKGROUND: Nerve growth factor is secreted and synthetized by a variety of cells, such as inflammatory calls and repairing calls, its biological effects are diverse and closely related to the process of wound repair, but its mechanism is not yet clear.OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of nerve growth factor on the biological characteristics of scar fibroblasts.METHODS: Eight clinical surgical resection specimens, including 5 face and neck hyperplastic scar or keloid specimens, did not receive any treatment; three were prepuce specimens following circumcision (normal tissue). By use of tissue block method, the scar and normal skin fibroblasts were cultured, followed by digestion passage. The scar tissue and normal tissue flbroblasts at 3-6passages in the logarithmic phase were seeded in 96-well plate and divided into the experimental group (scar flbroblest group) and the control group (normal skin fibroblasts group), with two parallel holes in each group were added with 3,33, 0.33 mg/L nerve growth factor, 50 μL. Inverted microscope was used to observe fibroblast morphology. At 24, 48, 72 hours after culture, the absorbanca value was measured using MTT. Fibroblast DNA content and cell apoptosis were determined by flow cytometry.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The fibroblasts were adherent cells, the scar and normal skin tissues were shown to cell free out of tissue block and gradual expansion at 4-6 days after incubation. Compared with normal skin fibroblasts, the pathological scar fibroblasts became larger, irregular shape and arrangement. MTT results showed that nerve growth factor could promote the normal and hypertrophic scar fibroblasts growth, which becomes more apparent. Flow cytometry results showed that by adding nerve growth factor, the percentage of scar fibroblasts at proliferating S-G_2-M phase was higher than that in the control;group; with a Iower level of apoptosis. It is indicated that nerve growth factor plays an obviously promoting role on normal and scar skin fibroblasts growth and proliferation, especially on the scar skin.

Objective To investigate the correlation between posterior neck pain and lumbar epidural pressure (LEP)during percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD).Methods A prospective study was performed on 86 patients undergoing PELD,46 males,40 females,aged 1 9-71 years,with ASA physical status of Ⅰ or Ⅱ.Each patient received lumbar epidural anesthesia.Lum-bar epidural pressure (LEP)was monitored continuously through a lumbar epidural catheter which was connected to a pressure transducer.LEP before the operation (LEPbase ),LEP at the time of pos-terior neck pain (LEPpain )and maximal LEP (LEPmax )were recorded.Results Thirty patients (34.9%)complained of posterior neck pain during the procedure.The lowest LEPmax was 31.0 mm Hg,and the highest LEPmax was 77.0 mm Hg.The LEPmax in patients with neck pain [(60.6± 8.8)mm Hg]was significantly higher than LEPmax in patients without neck pain [(50.7 ± 9.5 ) mm Hg](P <0.01 ).Patients with higher LEPmax had higher probabilities of having posterior neck pain (P <0.01).Conclusion Patients with higher LEPmax had higher probabilities of having posterior neck pain.

Objective To perform facial nerve monitoring in patients under the low level of neuromuscular blockade during resection of acoustic neurinomas.Methods Twenty-eight patients with large,or medium acoustic neuroma underwent the surgery of acoustic neurinomas resection. During the operation,TOF and EEG monitoring were performed in order to detect the degree of muscle relaxation and the depth of anesthesia. Neuromuscular relaxation was maintained at T_4/T_1=25%～50% by adjusting doses of muscle relaxant and aneasthetic. Free-run EMG and Triggered EMG of orbicularis oris, orbicularis oculi, masseter and trapezius were recordered to monitor the function of the facial, trigeminal and accessory nerves, respectively. The function of the facial nerve was evaluated at first week and half year postoperatively according to House-brackmann classification.Results The facial never was successfully identified and mapped by neurominitoring in all 28 patients. successfully, tThe electrical stimulation was 0.1 mA-0.3 mA and no any involuntary body movement was observed in all patients ne of patients have moved during operation. The preservation of the facial nerve function following surgery was good. Five patients had a HB grade I, 13 a HB grade II, 8 a grade III and 2 a HB grade IV The facial nerve function was HB Grade Ⅰin 5 of 28 patients, HB GradeⅡ in 13, HB Grade Ⅲ in 8 and HB Grade Ⅳ in 2 immediately after operation. Six months after surgery, 10 casespatents showed demonstrated a HB GradeⅠof facial never function, 12 cases exhibited a slight palsy (HB Grade II) , and 5 cases exhibited a HB Grade III palsy and . Another 1 cases a exhibited severe palsy (HB Grade IV).Conclusions Facial nerve monitoring in patients under the low level of neuromuscular blockade can ensure the surgical safety and preserve the facial never function.
