Objective To investigate the balance function of the knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients and the clinical value about static fallindex test and dynamic fall index test for the patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods The osteoarthritis patients without knee pain (controlgroup, n=30) were tested with postural stability (PS), limits of stability (LOS), dynamic fall index (DFI) and static fall index (SFI). Theosteoarthritis patients with knee pain (treatment group, n=30) accepted 10 times of diclofenac diethylamine emulge imported by pulsed ultrasoundand 6 times of massage therapy. They were also tested with above four balance tests and Western Ontario and McMaster UniversitiesOsteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) before and after treatments. Results There was significant difference in overall of PS, anterior/posterior indexand medial lateral index (P<0.05) between the control group and the treatment group before treatments, and there was very significantdifference in time to complete LOS, overall of LOS and DFI (P<0.01); but there was no significant difference in SFI (P<0.05). There wassignificant difference in WOMAC scores, overall of PS, anterior/posterior index, time to complete LOS, overall of LOS and DFI (P<0.05) inthe treatment group before and after treatments, but there was no significant difference in medial lateral index and SFI (P<0.05). ConclusionCompared with osteoarthritis patients without knee pain, KOA patients with knee pain are in poorer balance function and greater fall risk. After effective treatments, the balance function and fall risk of the KOA patients may significantly improve. Compared with SFI test, theDFI test is more sensitive to the improvement of balance function of the KOA patients.

Cell viability were tested by MTT colorimetric detection. Cells apoptosis were detected by Hochest33258 staining. Intracellular reactive oxygen species( ROS) level were detected by H2 DCFDA staining. Expression of CAT, SOD and MDA were tested by colorimetric detection. · RESULTS: RPE cell activity decreased with the concentration of glucose increased; 17β-estradiol inhibited high glucose-induced cell viability decrease in RPE cells, decreased the apoptosis rate of RPE cells and intracellular ROS generation; besides, 17β-estradiol significantly increased the expression of CAT, SOD and decreased the expression of MDA in RPE cells. ·CONCLUSION: The 17β-estradiol effectively inhibited high glucose -induced RPE cells damage, which provide reliable experimental basis for the treatment of injuries in RPE cells.

Objective To evaluate effects of incorporating tetrapod-like zinc oxide whisker (T-ZnOw) antibacterial agent on the antibacterial activity of composite resin, compared with that of the silver-based inorganic antibacterial agent. Methods The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the two different antibacterial agents against Streptococcus mutans were investigated using the broth dilution test Then the antibacterial activities of the self-cured composite resin specimens with different incorporating concentrations of the two antibacterial agents were evaluated using direct contact test And the antibacterial activities of the resin specimens were examined again after 3 months of accelerating aging. Results The MIC (MBC) of the T-ZnOw antibacterial agent and silver-based inorganic antibacterial agent were 0.15625(0.3125) g/L and 0. 15625(0.15625) g/L When the concentrations of T-ZnOw added to composite resin were 3%, 5% , and 10% (w/w), the antibacterialratios of the resin specimens were (84.85±5.16)%, (94.22 ± 3.73)%, and (99.43±0.48)%respectively. When the concentrations of the silver-based antibacterial agent added to composite resin were 1%, 3%, and 5%, the antibacterial ratios were (71.01±7.67)%, (90.76±5.91)%, and (97. 19 ±4.10)% respectively. The antibacterial ratios of the resin specimens containing 5% of both antibacterial agents were (89.89 ± 5.55) % and (78.79 ± 7.81) % respectively after 3 months of accelerating aging. Conclusions Incorporation of the T-ZnOw antibacterial agent in composite resin can improve the antibacterial performance of the resin, and the resin exhibits better antibacterial performance than that incorporating silver-based inorganic antibacterial agent after 3 months of aging.

Background/Aims:
The gastrointestinal symptom of diabetes mellitus, chronic constipation, seriously affects patients’ life. Whereas, the mechanism of chronic constipation is still ambiguous, resulting in a lack of effective therapies for this symptom. As a part of the smooth muscle cells, interstitial cells of Cajal, and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha-positive (PDGFRα+ ) cells syncytium (SIP syncytium), PDGFRα+ cells play an important role in regulating colonic motility. According to our previous study, in PDGFRα+cells in colons of diabetic mice, the function of the P2Y1 purinergic receptor/type 3 small-conductance calcium-activated potassium (SK3) channel signaling pathway is strengthened, which may lead to colonic dysmotility. The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in SK3 channel properties of PDGFRα+ cells in diabetic mice.
Methods:
Whole-cell patch clamp, Western blotting, superoxide dismutase activity measurement, and malondialdehyde measurement were main methods in the present study.
Results:
The present study revealed that when dialysed with low calcium ion (Ca 2+ ) solution, the SK3 current density was significantly decreased in PDGFRα+ cells from diabetic mice. However, the SK3 current density in PDGFRα+ cells was enhanced from diabetic mice when dialysed with high Ca 2+ solution. Moreover, hydrogen peroxide-treatment mimicked this phenomenon in SK3 transgenic HEK293 cells. The subunit of SK3 channels, protein kinase CK2, was up-regulated in colonic muscle layers and hydrogen peroxidetreated HEK293 cells. Additionally, protein phosphatase 2A, the subunit of SK3 channels, was not changed in streptozotocin-treated mouse colons or hydrogen peroxide-treated HEK293 cells.
Conclusion
The diabetic oxidative stress-induced upregulation of CK2 contributed to modulating SK3 channel sensitivity to Ca 2+ in colonic PDGFRα+ cells, which may result in colonic dysmotility in diabetic mice.

Annals of Dermatology 2014;26(3):303-307
BACKGROUND: Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) is an immune complex-mediated disease predominantly characterized by the deposition of circulating immune complexes containing immunoglobulin A (IgA) on the walls of small vessels. Although the pathogenesis of HSP is not yet fully understood, some researchers proposed that B-cell activation might play a critical role in the development of this disease. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the serum levels of visfatin (pre-B-cell colony-enhancing factor), B-cell-activating factor (BAFF), and CXCL13, and to analyze their association with disease severity. METHODS: The serum levels of visfatin, BAFF, and CXCL13 were measured by using a double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 43 patients with HSP and 45 controls. The serum levels of IgA anticardiolipin antibodies (ACA) were detected by using a double-antigen sandwich ELISA. RESULTS: Levels of visfatin but not BAFF and CXCL13 were significantly elevated in the sera of patients with HSP in the acute stage, and restored to normal levels in the convalescent stage. Furthermore, serum levels of visfatin were significantly higher in patients with HSP having renal involvement than in those without renal involvement. Serum levels of visfatin were correlated with the severity of HSP and serum concentration of ACA-IgA. CONCLUSION: We show for the first time that the serum levels of visfatin are abnormally elevated in patients with HSP. Visfatin may be associated with the pathogenesis of HSP.
