Background Researches showed that multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) is able to assess the retinal function in the eyes with acute Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada ( VKH ) syndrome. But the mfERG characteristics of convalescence stage of VKH are still below clear. Objective Present study was to compare and follow up the variation process of visual acuity and mfERG in acute and recovery stages of VKH syndrome. Methods This was a clinic-based retrospective study. Visual acuity, mfERG and fundus fluorescence angiography ( FFA ) were recorded from 35 eyes of 18 acute VKH cases. The period of follow-up in recovery stage lasted about 18 months with the repetitive recording results for 4 times. Results In this study, the visual acuity range in acute stage VKH was 0. 01 to 1.0, and 91.4% (32/35 eyes) was below 0.6. Compared with normal control group, the visual acuity was significantly decreased (P＜0.01). The response densities (amplitudes) of N1 ,P1 waves of the first-order kernel were significantly lowed in all the 6 rings,and the implicit times of 1-4 rings of both waves were significantly prolonged in acute VKH eyes(P＜0. 05). The abnormalities of retinal function showed a regional difference at the posterior pole retina with the dominant change in the first ring,showing a cutting off78% in the P1 amplitude. The abnormal degree of mfERG was more serious as the the increase of retinal eccentricity. In 2 months of convalescence after glucocorticosteroids therapy,the range of visual acuity were 0. 1-1.2 ,and the amplitudes of N1, P1 of 1-2 rings were greatly elevated in comparison with acute on-set (P＜0. 05 ). However, there was still a remarkable difference in the amplitudes of from 1 through 6 rings,comparing with normal. The response density of P1 wave from whole recording region was only 44% of normal. Though the visual acuity was stable during the follow-up duration, a decreasing tendency in N1 and P1 amplitudes were seen. The implicit times of both wave shortened only in 1-3 rings in recovery stages of VKH (P＜0.05). Conclusion VKH syndrome cause serious damage of posterior retinal function.Macular region is the site with greater retinal functional lesion and restore before and after medication. This hardly recovery of retinal function can last over one and half year,even satisfied visual acuity is stable after proper treatment.

Objective To predict the trend of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) mortality and investigate the features of its mortality including age, period, and birth cohort in males living in Haimen city of Jiangsu province, China. Methods Grey model (GM) was modeled using standardized mortality rate (SMR) of HCC from 1993 to 2006, and was applied to predicting SMR until 2012. Based on the mortality density (MD) for a four-year period, the goodness-of-fit of models and comparisons between models were evaluated so as to obtain the best one among these models including the effects of intercept, age-period-cohort (APC) , age-period (AP), age-cohort (AC),period-cohort(PC), and APC. Both APC full model and the best model were used to estimate effects of age, period, and cohort on HCC mortality. In addition, MD from 2005 to 2012 was predicted by the best model. Results Predictions based on GM (1,1 )showed that SMR was 48.578 per 100 000 population (relative error=-1.267% ) in 2007 year, which declined between 2008 and 2012. The lowest value was 45.578 per 100 000 people (in the 2012 year). The results of fitted models and comparisons between models showed that AP model was the best one (△G2=9.065,AIC=202.544). The curvatures of the effects of the three factors from APC model suggested that significances existed in changes of curvatures of 36.5-40.5 years old- (-0.368) and 64.5-68.5 years old-(-0.489) as well as in the change of 1956-1959 birth cohort (C21949.5. 1967.5=-0.492). The estimation of relative risks for AP model showed that the age effects were upward to 64.5-68.5 years old-, then downward; and that the period effects were found to be declined between 1993 and 2004. Predictions based on AP model suggested the decrease of HCC mortality. Conclusion The slightly decreasing trend of HCC mortality for males might be explained by age, period and a minor birth cohort effects in Haimen of China.

We should improve the level of quality control and quality assurance in radiation therapy. By establishing quality control system in radiation therapy, standardization of radiation therapy workflow, strengthening quality control of devices and physical technique and paying attention to safety protection and staff training.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the clinicopathologic features of salivary malignant pleomorphic adenoma (MPA) (the subtype of the malignant component was classified as non-specific adenocarcinoma).

METHODSThe clinical and pathological characteristics of 115 salivary gland tumors histologically diagnosed as MPA were analyzed.

RESULTSIn all the 65 MPA cases, there were 58 male and 7 female patients, and the mean age was 57 years (from 23 to 83). Sixty-one tumors were located in major salivary glands, and 4 in minor. Histologically the malignant components of 39 tumors were high-grade, 14 intermediate-grade, and 12 low-grade. Thirty-seven tumors were invasive carcinoma, 13 minimally invasive, and 15 non-invasive. The high-grade tumors had positive correlation with the invasive carcinomas (P < 0.05). The invasive carcinomas had positive correlation with TNM clinical stage (P < 0.05). The invasive carcinoma and the high-grade tumor had correlation with cervical lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSNon-specific adenocarcinoma are the most common malignant subtype in MPA. The invasive and the high-grade types are more likely to metastasize to cervical lymph node.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of three-dimensional structure of dermal matrix on biological behavior of fibroblasts (Fb) in the microcosmic perspective.

METHODSThe three-dimensional structure of dermal tissue was analyzed by plane geometric and trigonometric function. Microdots structure array with cell adhesion effect was designed by computer-assisted design software according to the adhesive and non-adhesive components of dermal tissue. Four sizes (8 microm x 3 microm, space 6 microm; 16 microm x 3 microm, space 6 microm; 16 microm x 5 microm, space 8 microm; 20 microm x 3 microm, space 2 microm) of micropier grid used for cell culture (MPGCC) with cell-adhesive microdots, built up with micro-pattern printing and molecule self-assembly method were used to culture dermal Fb. Fb cultured with cell culture matrix without micropier grid was set up as control. The expression of skeleton protein (alpha-SMA) of Fb, cell viability and cell secretion were detected with immunohistochemistry, fluorescent immunohistochemistry, MTT test and the hydroxyproline content assay.

RESULTSThe three-dimensional structure of dermal tissue could be simulated by MPGCC as shown in arithmetic analysis. Compared with those of control group [(12 +/- 3)% and (0.53 +/- 0.03) microg/mg, (0.35 +/- 0.04)], the expression of alpha-SMA [(49 +/- 3)%, (61 +/- 3)%, (47 +/- 4)%, (51 +/- 3)%] and the content of hydroxyproline [(0.95 +/- 0.04), (0.87 +/- 0.03), (0.81 +/- 0.03), (0.77 +/- 0.03) microg/mg] were increased significantly (P < 0.05), the cell viability of Fb (0.12 +/- 0.03, 0.13 +/- 0.04, 0.14 +/- 0.03, 0.19 +/- 0.03) cultured in MPGCC was decreased significantly (P < 0.05). When the parameters of micropier grid were changed, the expression of alpha-SMA, the cell viability and the content of hydroxyproline of Fb cultured in four sizes of MPGCC were also significantly changed as compared with one another (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSMPGCC may be the basic functional unit of dermal template, or unit of dermal template to call. Different three-dimensional circumstances for dermal tissue can result in different template effect and wound healing condition.

OBJECTIVEIn order to analyze multiple statistic tables more efficiently Excel Visual Basic for Application (VBA) was introduced through the use of an example of calculating standardized mortality rates (SMRs).

METHODSMortality data of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, by sex and age, have been collected from 1991 to 2003 by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Shanghai Huangpu District. Standard population composition was defined as Chinese census statistics in 2000. The male's SMRs were calculated, using Excel VBA for each year and classification of cancers.

RESULTSThe male's SMRs were obtained by year and different cancers. At the same time, the results were listed in the cancer's SMRs table for male.

CONCLUSIONSExcel is more flexible than general database on the combination of data and annotation. Excel VBA is better than the basic Excel in operating multiple tables simultaneously and man-machine conversation. Statistic analysis can be efficiently completed by using Excel VBA.

OBJECTIVETo identify gene expression differences between abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA) and normal abdominal artery.

METHODSFive AAA specimens and five normal abdominal artery specimens were collected. Total RNA was extracted and purified from the samples independently. Then isolated RNA was labeled and hybridized onto the Affymetrix Genechip.

RESULTSOne thousand nine hundreds and sixty-two differently expressed genes were identified in AAA compared with normal abdominal artery, of which 554 genes were up-regulated and 1408 genes were down-regulated. Functional analysis revealed that genes involved in immune response, inflammatory response and chemokines were significantly up-regulated in AAA.

CONCLUSIONThe differently expressed genes may be useful in providing new insights and foster a better understanding of the mechanism of AAA.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the levels of sex hormones in female patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its role in the genesis of SLE. METHODS: The serum levels of estradiol, estriol, testosterone, progesterone, and prolactin were determined by electro-chemiluminescence immunoassay in 98 female patients with SLE and compared with those of 38 healthy women. RESULTS: The serum levels of estradiol, estriol, progesterone, and prolactin were significantly higher than those in the healthy women (P <0.05). The serum levels of estradiol, progesterone, and prolactin in patients with SLE in 25 to 34 year old group were higher than the other age groups and the control group (P < 0.05), and the serum levels of estradiol and prolactin in patients with active phase of SLE were significantly higher than those in patients with stable phase of SLE (P <0.05). CONCLUSION The levels of sex hormones have a close corretation with the genesis and development of SLE.

[Objective ] To ascertain the current situation in application of summary procedure within the jurisdiction , and propose corresponding measures and suggestions for prevention of administrative reconsideration and administrative lawsuits resulting from improper use of summery procedure . [ Meth-ods] Retrospective examination was done of 63 administrative penalty cases by summary procedure in Xu-hui District in 2011 and 2012 .Some parties punished were visited , and at the same period were randomly selected the penalty cases from the same professional use and general procedure .Control analysis was done from six aspects such as punishment body identified , confirmation of illegal facts , fixation of evidence , ap-plication of legal provisions , legitimate punishment procedure , clerical production specification and others . [ Results] Problems were found to be existent in the six aspects of punishment body identified , confir-mation of illegal facts , fixation of evidence , application of law provisions , legitimate punishment proce-dures, and clerical production specification , etc.There is a certain gap with the general procedure punish-ment cases , which needs to be improved in future . [ Conclusion ] Administration by law awareness should be strengthened , training in this regard enhanced , management norms for summary procedure formu-lated , evidence system for summary procedure established and perfected , and inspection strengthened , so as to improve the quality of summary punishment cases .
