Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2009;15(4):355-356
Objective To observe the effects of hand function training with continuous passive motion (CPM) on hand spasm and function of the hemiplegic patients. Methods 60 hemiplegic patients after stroke or brain trauma and with hand spasm were randomly divided into the treatment group and control group with 30 cases in each group. The cases in the treatment group were treated mainly with the method of CPM together with the routine rehabilitation procedures, while the those in the control group were only treated with the routine rehabilitation procedures. The changes of hand spasm and function of two groups were observed. Results After four weeks' treatment, the efficacy of the treatment group was obviously better than that of the control group ( P<0.05).Conclusion The rehabilitation training is an effective method for treatment of hemiplegia, and CPM is an important auxiliary method in the treatment. These two Methods combined together can shorten the course of treatment, and strengthen cure efficacy.

Objective To evaluate the diagnosis and the optimal management of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura(ITP) with pregnancy and the related high risk factors with neonatal passive immune thrombocytopenia(PIT) occurring in infants born to mothers with ITP. Methods Medical records of 40 pregnant women with ITP and their neonatal outcomes were reviewed retrospectively from 1992.2 to 2001.8 in our hospital. Results The incidence of pregnancy with ITP was 3.4‰. The maternal complications included pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome (17.5%), postpartum hemorrhage (15%), preterm labor (12.5%), gestational diabetes(7.5%) and FGR (7.5% ). One mother died at 36 weeks of gestational age. There were 13 cases delivered by vagina and 27 cases delivered by cesarean section. Nine neonates(28.1%)had neonatal PIT, Among them three neonates (9.3%) had severe PIT, One neonate(2.5%) had an intracranial hemorrhage(ICH) and two perinatal death (5%)occured in 40 neonates. No significant correlation was found between neonatal platelet counts and maternal platelet counts, maternal PAIgG values and maternal treatments respectively. Conclusion The prognosis of mothers and neonates in pregnancy with ITP are better. The incidence of severe fetal or neonatal PIT is low and not related to maternal platelet counts, maternal treatments and PAIgG values.

To investigate the safety, efficacy and feasibility of the administration of a number of DCs from HLA identical donor in the treatment of leukemia. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMNCs) of HLA identical healthy donors were collected. PBMNCs were cultivated initially with IL 4,hGM CSF,TNF ?, and stimulated by lysate of leukemic cells.Dendritic cells were induced and given to the patients. The response of the patients to the infusion of DCs was observed. Clinical observation showed that the progress of leukemia was limited partly. There was no toxicity directly referable to this treatment. It is feasible and safe to generate and administer DCs pulsed with tumor lysate, suggesting that it could be a potential treatment for advanced acute myeloid leukemia.

To investigate the acute and late side effects of autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (Auto PBSCT) in children. Acute toxicity was evaluated in 21cases, according to Beurmen criteria. 11 patients who lived longer than 3 years after Auto PBSCT were followed up. Acute toxicity was mild. Growth and neuropsychological development were normal. Two children developed slight compensated hypothyroidism. Puberty was delayed in one male patient. Mild cataract was noticed in six children. Seven patients were found to suffer from hepatitis. The results suggested that pediatric patients were able to tolerate an appropriate pre conditioning regimen. Attention shoud be paid to the prevention of hepatitis.

Purpose:To investigate palitaxel (Tax) induct io n of apoptosis in human retinoblastoma Y79 cells and the role of Bcl-2 phosphor ylation in the mechanism. Methods:Antiproliferation effects of Tax on Y79 cells were dete rmined by 3H-thymidine incorporation. Apoptosis of the Tax-treated cells was determined by DNA fragmentation analysis. Bcl-2 phosphorylation was determ ined by Western blot analysis. Cell transfection was used in mutant Bcl-2 trans fecting in Y79 cells. Results:After 24 hours treatment with 1 ?mol/L Tax, 3H- thymidine incorporation decreased in Y79 cells and the effects were time and dos e dependent. DNA ladder appeared in DNA fragmantation analysis after 12-24 hour s treatment with Tax. Bcl-2 Phosphorylation was significantly increased in 12- 24 hours treatment with Tax. Bcl-2, a mutant of Bcl-2, blocked Tax activation process. Conclusions:Tax inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in h uman Y79 cells, and phosphorylation of Bcl-2 might be involved in this process.
