The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of phospholipids supplementation on nutritional status and antioxidant status of trained mice. The results indicate that: 1)In phospholipids supplementation groups concentrations of Hb and serum phospholipid increase significantly, serum Alb concentration tends to increase.Phospholipids supplementation can also help the recovery of Hb which is decreased after exhaustive exercise.2)Phospholipids supplementation can improve antioxidative status in some tissue .3)The activity of SOD is highest in quadriceps while the activity of GPX is highest in liver, and concentration of MDA is lowest in kidney.Different kinds of tissue show different levels of SOD, GPX and MDA, indicating their different abilities of antioxidation.4) Phospholipids supplementation have no effect on body weights of trained mice.

OBJECTIVE:To establish the quality standards for Qiqilian capsule. METHODS:TLC was used to identify the As-tragali Radix,Phellodendri chinensis,Coptidis rhizom. HPLC was used to determine the contents of ginsenosides Rg1,ginsenosides Rb1 and notoginsenosides R1. The column was Shim-pack VP-ODS C18 with mobile phase of acetonitrile-water(gradient elution) at flow rate of 1.0 ml/min,detection wavelength was 203 nm,column temperature was 20 ℃. RESULTS:TLC of Astragali Radix,P. chinensis,C. rhizom showed cleer sports and good separation. The linear range was 0.9-9.0 μg for ginsenosides Rg1,0.94-9.4 μg for ginsenosides Rb1 and 0.3-3.0 μg for notoginsenosides R1(r≥0.999 5);RSDs of precision,reproducibility and stability test were lower than 3.0%;recoveries were 96.08%-99.75%(RSD=1.52,n=6),97.03%-99.75%(RSD=1.10,n=6)and 96.38%-98.55%(RSD=0.90,n=6),respectively. CONCLUSIONS:The method is simple,good reproducibility,and can be used for the quality control of Qiqilian capsule.

Objective To investigate the effects of different degrees of neuromuscular blockade (NMB) induced by rocuronium on facial nerve evoked-electromyographic (EEMG) monitoring in patients undergoing resection of acoustic neuroma.Methods Thirty-five ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients of both sexes,aged 20-64 yr,with body mass index ≤30 kg/m2,scheduled for elective resection of acoustic neuroma under general anesthesia,were included in the study.Anesthesia was induced with midazolam,fentanyl and propofol.The patients were mechanically ventilated after tracheal intubation.Facial nerve EEMG monitoring and peripheral NMB monitoring were performed simultaneously during operation.Facial nerve EEMG was monitored using the Epoch XP2000 multichannel electrophysiological nerve monitoring system (Axon Co.,USA),facial nerve was stimulated and evoked potential of orbicularis oculi was recorded during operation.Peripheral NMB degrees were monitored with TOF-Watch SX monitor (Organon Co.Holland).After rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg was injected intravenously,the facial nerve EEMG responses were monitored when the degree of NMB (T1) was at 100％,75％,50％,25％ and 0 of the control height.The amplitude and latency of EEMG were recorded.The amplitude reservation ratio (the ratio of the amplitude of EEMG monitored to the baseline value) was calculated.Linear correlation of the amplitude reservation ratio or latency of EEMG with the degree of NMB was analyzed.Results No EEMG response was elicited when the degree of NMB was 100％ in 6 patients.The lirear regression equation of the interaction between the degree of NMB (X) and the amplitude reservation ratio (Y) was Y =1 - 0.787 X,the coefficient of determination was 0.898 ( P ＜ 0.05) and the correlation coefficient was - 0.947 ( P ＜ 0.05).The correlation coefficient between the latency of EEMG and the degree of NMB was 0.328 ( P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion When the degree of NMB is maintained at 25 ％-50％,facial nerve EEMG can be monitored effectively and body movement can be avoided during resection of acoustic neuroma.

OBJECTIVETo observe the impact of plant sterol esters (PSE) mixed in low fat milk powder (2.5 g of PSE/day) on plasma cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic subjects during a 6-week intervention period.

METHODSIn this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, 59 subjects (19 males, mean age (60.28 ± 6.98) years) with primary hypercholesterolemia (fasting LDL cholesterol between 3.4-6.0 mmol/L) were randomly divided into two groups (treatment group, 2.5 g of plant sterol esters a day, n = 30) and placebo group (n = 29). Blood samples were collected at week 0, 3 and 6. The primary outcome was change in plasma LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C). Secondary outcomes were changes in total cholesterol (TC), HDL cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), anthropometry and blood biochemistry.

RESULTSLDL-C significantly reduction from baseline (4.18 ± 0.54) mmol/L to (3.44 ± 0.61) mmol/L (-17.7%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and (3.35 ± 0.39) mmol/L (-19.9%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in the treatment group, whereas in placebo group from (4.11 ± 0.54) mmol/L at baseline to (3.47 ± 0.60) mmol/L (-15.57%, P < 0.05) and (3.61 ± 0.39) mmol/L (-12.17%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and week 6, respectively. TC was reduced from (6.30 ± 0.86) mmol/L at baseline to (5.92 ± 0.75) mmol/L (-6.03%, P > 0.05) at week 3 and (5.43 ± 0.77) mmol/L (-13.8%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in treatment group, from (6.20 ± 0.76) mmol/L at week 0 to (5.70 ± 0.76) mmol/L (-8.06%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and (5.84 ± 0.75) mmol/L (-5.81%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in placebo group. PSE-enriched milk did not affect plasma HDL-C level and TG level at both week 3 and week 6. After normalization to the placebo group, the treatment group showed significant reduction in LDL-C and total cholesteron after 6 weeks. The observed difference of reduction was 7.69% (-0.33 mmol/L, P < 0.05) for LDL-C and 8.00% (-0.51 mmol/L, P < 0.05) for TC between the two groups. There were no significant changes in safety parameters, including blood biochemistry tests during the study period.

CONCLUSIONPlant sterol ester enriched milk powder is effective in reducing LDL-C among Chinese hypercholesterolemic subjects at a dosage recommended by EFSA.

Objective: To investigate the effects of micronutrient supplementation for the elderly on plasma homocysteine level and cognitive function in institutional older adults. Methods: A total of 98 older adults with the score≤11 by mini nutritional assessment short-form aged 65-100 years were enrolled and assigned to either intervention group or control group (n=49 each), with either a package of micronutrient pack or placebo daily, for three months. Fasting blood samples were collected both at baseline and the end of study to detect serum vitamin B₁₂, folate and plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentrations. Global cognitive function was assessed using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE). The paired t test was used to compare the continuous variables between the two groups after intervention. The relationship between changes in MMSE score and changes in plasma Hcy concentrations was examined by least-squares linear regression. Results: Eighty-two patients completed the study, and 17 patients withdrew from the study due to diarrhea and hospital discharge with the drop rate of 17.3%. Compared to the control group, concentrations of serum vitamin B₁₂ (128.8±34.8 vs 13.3±16.0 pmol/L, P=0.003) and folate (21.1±1.6 vs 0.6±0.5 nmol/L, P<0.01) significantly increased in the intervention group over 3-month supplementation, while plasma Hcy levels were remarkably reduced (-5.3±0.7 vs 1.7±0.3 μmol/L, P<0.01). The incidences of deficiency of folate, deficiency of serum vitamin B₁₂and high Hcy all decreased in intervention group. Although individual item scores in MMSE were not changed markedly, change of total MMSE score in intervention group were higher than that in the control group (1.2±3.0 vs -0.2±2.5, P<0.05). Conclusions The supplementation of the micronutrient pack in long-term care facilities can reduce the incidence of hyperhomocysteinemia, and improve the total MMSE score.

Metabolism and deposition of exogenous gene and protein from transgenic glyphosate herbicide-tolerant soybean meal in SD rats were studied in the experiment. The transgenic soybean GTS40-3-2 meal and its non-transgenic counterpart (parent A5403) were fed to the generation and the second generation Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study added the genetically modified (GM) soybean meal and its non-transgenic control soybean meal (parent A5403) in a ratio of 20% respectively to the feeds. By using qualitative, quantitative PCR and ELISA methods to detect transgenic soybean residues of metabolism ingredients in rats, the safety and influence of GM soybean were evaluated. The results showed that the intestinal fecal and cecum contents of rats were detected with residues of GM ingredients, intestinal flora and organs were not found related genes and protein. These results indicated that transgenic glyphosate herbicide-tolerant soybean GTS40-3-2 meal was as safe as its non-GM soybean meal in long-term feeding study.

Protein Engineering is a core compulsory course of biotechnology major, which is the first-class undergraduate major being constructed in Shanxi Province. In view of the problems of single teaching mode of Protein Engineering, such as insufficient students' participation, short teaching time, and expensive experiment cost, the course team carried out the reform and practice of teaching mode for this course, and put forward a new teaching strategy. Under the guidance of the "Golden Course" standard for advancement, innovation and challenge, the course team developed the materials for massive open online courses (MOOC), and carried out the online and offline mixed teaching of Protein Engineering based on BOPPPS+flipped classroom by using the Chao-Xing Fan-Ya network teaching platform. Through this, a comprehensive, systematic and dynamic new teaching system of Protein Engineering was developed. Using the teaching mode based on BOPPPS+flipped classroom, the offline classroom teaching was combined with students' online self-study and homework completion, chapter test and discussion, and this mixed teaching mode was fully integrated into the flipped classroom. After three rounds of teaching practice, the course team had developed a complete, reproducible, scientific and reasonable online and offline mixed teaching mode, which included course materials preparation, exploring experiment guidance, classroom discussion design and course performance evaluation. The online and offline mixed teaching mode of Protein Engineering based on BOPPPS+flipped classroom was helpful for students to improve their autonomous learning ability, to be deeply engaged in the whole teaching process, and to develop a comprehensive and profound understanding of Protein Engineering. This teaching mode improved the teaching quality of Protein Engineering, and facilitated students to learn other follow-up professional courses. Moreover, it provides a reference for the course teaching reform.

To assess the presence of genetically modified (GM) maize and soybean in a range of commercialized feed in Shanxi province of China in 2015, improved hexadecyltrimethy ammonium bromide (CTAB) method was used to extract DNA. The screening of packed feeds was carried out by qualitative PCR. Then positive feeds were unpacked and detected by the CaMV 35S promoter, NOS terminator, zSSIIb, Lectin and CryIA (b) genes. The identified maize and soybean events were confirmed by event-specific MON810 and GTS40-3-2. Results showed that 83.3% of the feeds was tested positive for GMOs, in which positive rates of maize, soybean, pig and layer feeds were 6.67%, 100%, 93.3% and 73.3%, respectively. The results of real-time PCR were consistent with qualitative PCR. These results indicated that commercialized GM feed had a wide positive product scope in Shanxi province of China. Further studies are necessary to study effects of feeding livestock and poultry with feed containing GM ingredients on animals and their products.

ObjectiveTo explore the application law of compound prescriptions containing Coptidis Rhizoma to diabetes and its complications based on data mining. MethodA total of 288 records on formulas containing Coptidis Rhizoma in the treatment of diabetes and its complications and the corresponding syndromes and symptoms were retrieved from the medical records of modern physicians， with 218 on the treatment of diabetes and 70 on the treatment of diabetes complications. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Computing Platform （V3.0） was used or data mining on the compositions of the formulas. Moreover， it was employed for the frequency statistics， formula analysis， symptom analysis， association rules analysis， network visualization， and cluster analysis. ResultThe 218 formulas containing Coptidis Rhizoma for the treatment of diabetes involved 190 Chinese medicinals. A total of 12 syndromes showed the occurrence frequency ≥ 6， and the one with the highest frequency was deficiency of both qi and yin， followed by the syndrome of excessive heat in lung and stomach， syndrome of Yin deficiency and effulgent fire， and syndrome of excessive heat and fluid consumption. The dose of Coptidis Rhizoma for the treatment of diabetes ranged from 1.5-30 g， and the most frequently used doses were 10， 6， and 5 g. The medicinal was frequently applied for the traditional Chinese medicine symptoms of dry stool， dry mouth and tongue， and swift digestion with rapid hungering. Moreover， 26 core medicinal pairs， 17 association rules， 3 diagrams on medicinal relationship， and 3 core combinations were yielded. The 70 formulas containing Coptidis Rhizoma for the treatment of diabetes complications involved 184 Chinese medicinals， and the top 3 complications were diabetic nephropathy， diabetic peripheral neuropathy， and diabetic gastroenteropathy. The dose of Coptidis Rhizoma in the treatment of diabetes complications fell in the range of 2-15 g， and 10， 6， and 5 g were most frequently used. ConclusionFormulas containing Coptidis Rhizoma for the treatment of diabetes and its complications mainly target the syndrome of dampness-heat transforming into fire and the syndrome of excessive heat damaging yin. This study can serve as a reference for standard use of Coptidis Rhizoma in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications.
