BACKGROUND:Posterior stabilized femoral knee prosthesis needs additional condyle osteotomy to accommodate the tibial post and femur fossa structures. Intercondylar fossa on both sides connected at the femoral body with concentrated stress is a place easily affecting fractures. Differences in bone mass between different models of different brands did not have specific data, which was not convenient to select prosthesis for clinicians.
OBJECTIVE: To compare the difference of intercondylar osteotomy data among clinical commonly used posterior stabilized knee prostheses (six imported and domestic brands), and to provide basis for the selection and application of the prostheses.
METHODS:The current commonly used posterior stabilized knee prostheses (six imported and domestic brands) were used, including Zimmer NexGen LPS, Stryker Scrorpio NRG Knee-Flexed, Depuy PFC Sigma, Smith & nephew Genesis-2 PS, United-U1 and Wego GKPS. According to the osteotomy template, the osteotomy-surfaces consisting of femoral condyle starting section and cross section, distal section of femoral condyle, and back-oblique section were identified. The corresponding femoral prosthesis diameter lines included condylar ambilateral and anteroposterior diameters, width and depth of femoral intercondylar fossa. The above data were compared and measured.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The six kinds of knee femoral prostheses were different in ratio of ambilateral diameter and anteroposterior diameter, bone resection of intercondylar fossa, and geometry. Imported prostheses carry shorter diameters in femoral starting and cross sections, so it can catch more posterior condylar osteotomy. With increasing prosthesis sizes, the ratio of bone loss causing by width of intercondylar osteotomy is decreased among six brands. In al sizes, Stryker Scrorpio NRG Knee-Flexed catches shorter width of intercondylar osteotomy. Knee prosthesis osteotomy among six brands is different. The result of this study is not sufficient to evaluate the pros and cons between different prostheses, but as reserving bone is concerned, the design of less intercondylar osteoomy catches more advantages.

AIM: To observe the effect of Tripterygium glycosides on NOXs-ROS-NLRP3 inflammatory signa-ling pathways in the colon tissue in dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) mice, and to investi-gate the underlying mechanisms.METHODS: BALB/c mice were used and the mouse model of UC was established by DSS induction. The mice were randomly divided into 5 groups (model group, low-, medium-and high-dose Tripterygium glycosides groups, and normal group). The colon tissues were collected 21 d after Tripterygium glycosides gavage. The mRNA expression of NLRP3, ASC and caspase-1 in the colon tissues was detected by real-time PCR.The caspase-1 ex-pression in the colorectal mucosa was observed by immunohistochemical method.ELISA was used to detect the protein le-
vels of IL-1α, TNF-αand IL-13.The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was measured by chemiluminescence technique, and the consumption rate of NADPH, which was inhibited by DPI, was analyzed to determine the activity of NADPH oxidases (NOXs).The neutrophils were isolated, and the ROS production, NOXs activity, and the mRNA ex-pression of NLRP3, ASC and caspase-1 were also detected.RESULTS: The colon tissues were abnormal with different de-grees in Tripterygium glycosides groups, and histopathological scores were lower than that in model group. In Tripterygium glycosides groups, in addition to the mRNA expression levels of caspase-1 in the colon tissues between normal group and high-dose group, ROS production, NOXs activity and the mRNA expression levels of NLRP3, ASC and caspase-1 in the colon tissues and colon-isolated neutrophils were lower than those in model group (P <0.05), and higher than those in normal group (P <0.05).The results of pairwise comparison for the efficacy of Tripterygium glycosides administration showed that the above indexes were statistically significant except the mRNA expression levels of caspase-1 between middle-dose group and high-dose group.Tripterygium glycosides administration significantly decreased the expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1αand TNF-αin the homogenates of colon tissues in the model mice (P <0.05).No differ-ence of IL-13 expression among the groups was observed.CONCLUSION: Tripterygium glycosides inhibits NOXs-ROS-NLRP3 inflammatory signaling pathways to reduce the expression of IL-1α, TNF-αand other proinflammatory cytokines, and attenuates DSS-induced ulcerative colitis in mice, by which the neutrophils might be involved in the process.

The present study shows the case of a patient with acetabular protrusions secondary to rheumatoid arthritis progressing to femoral neck fracture. The patient,a 64 years female, had a history of rheumatoid arthtitis for 38 years. The left hip pain and abnormal sound occurred when hip flexion for picking up.She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis secordary to acetabular pelvic retraction and left femoral neck fracture by medical history, physical examination and imaging.Total hip arthroplasty was performed after preoperative examination.Hip dislocation, femoral head removal, acetabular reconstruction;cup fixation, and bone mass assessment are technical challenges during surgery.Based on literature review, this case is belonging to secondary acetabular pelvic retraction, which may be related to acetabular softening caused by rheumatoid arthritis.Whenthe stress from the femoral head exceeds the endurance of the softened acetabulum, the acetabulum protrudes into the pelvis and gradually wraps around the femoral head.Based on the pathological characteristics, itis speculated that the cause of femoral neck fracture is the direct hit of the femoral neck-acetabular rim during hip flexion. In this case, spiral cup prosthesis was used to achieve both the initial stability of the prosthesis and saving bone mass around the acetabulum. The patient was followed up for 3 months with satisfactory position of prosthesis and joint function.

Objective:To document any effect of combining kinesiotaping (KT) with Monitored Rehab Systems biofeedback training (MRS training) on the recovery of knee function after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR).Methods:Twenty-two patients after ACLR were randomly divided into an MRS group and a combined group, each of 11. In addition to conventional rehabilitation training, the MRS group had placebo taping in place during their MRS training, while the combined group had KT applied. Each training session lasted 45 minutes, with three sessions per week. Before the experiment and after 8 weeks of treatment, the affected foot support phase, impulse of each area of the affected foot′s sole, and lower limb reaction time were measured. Results:Significant improvement in the affected foot′s support phase and lower limb reaction time was documented in both groups, as well as in the average impulse percentage of the affected foot′s plantar forefoot area (F area), mid-foot area (MF area), and heel area (H area). All were significantly better in the combined group than in the MRS group, on average. Conclusion:Supplementing MRS biofeedback training with kinesiotaping can more effectively improve the knee joint functioning and postural control of patients after ACLR surgery. The combination is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
