Objective To know the environmental lead pollution status of rural areas around the mining area in Guangxi,2008.Methods From August to December,2008,the survey was carried out in 28 villages of 4 counties, which were located in basin of three rivers and their tributaries.Six lead-zinc-tin mines were situated in the investigated area. The local samples were collected, including 101 rice samples,30 paddy samples,59 vegetable samples and 45 samples of meat, viscera of poultry,5 fish samples, and 27 surface water samples,12 ground water samples,13 drinking water samples,29 cropland soil samples. The lead content of them were determined, the dietary survey on lead intake was performed among the residents living near the mining area also. Results 53.68%(102/190) of the crop samples revealed higher lead contents, which were over the standard limit, especially for rice(47.52%) and leafy vegetables(100%).The lead contents for five eggs samples, two peanuts samples and thirteen fresh corns were qualified.36%(102/190)of the samples of meat and viscera of poultry revealed higher lead contents, which were over the standard limit, especially for liver and chicken intestine. The lead intake only through rice and vegetables reached 4.55 mg in one week, which was over the tolerance dose by 0.52 times. Conclusion The lead intake of the residents living near the lead-zinc mining area are mainly from crop and vegetables and poultry.Environmental lead pollution is serious in the investigated area and must be controlled as possible as early.

Journal of Geriatric Cardiology 2008;5(2):74-78
Objective To compare knowledge about hypertension between elderly Chinese urban patients with preferences for either traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) or Western medicine (WM).Methods Elderly (≥ 65 years old) patients with hypertension who prefer TCM treatment (n=112) or WM (n=126) were questioned about hypertension.Their answers were compared. Results Only 32.6% of participants correctly identified hypertension as a main risk factor of coronary heart disease and stroke,22.3% of patients answered that the main purpose of hypertension control was preventing cardiovascular disease.Other major reasons for these patients to seek medical treatment for their hypertension included:persuasion by physicians or their family members (21.6%),alleviating symptoms such as headache and dizziness (16.8%),lowering blood pressure without knowing specific reason (12.4%).The predictors for poor knowledge of hypertension were similar irrespective of preference for WM or TCM treatment, and included those with lower levels of education and older age.Television and newspaper (46.8%) were the most frequent sources of hypertension information for both groups.Among those who preferred TCM treatment,TCM has fewer side effects than WM and TCM cures disease while WM only alleviates symptoms were common beliefs held. Conclusion This study shows that knowledge of hypertension is similar among Chinese urban patients with preferences for either WM or TCM treatment and that misunderstandings about hypertension are common among the elderly patients. In order to control hypertension effectively, public health education is necessary. This should target those with a lower level of education and older age.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 2001;0(12):-
Objective To investigate the effect of bevacizumab on apoptosis of drug resistant nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) cells in vitro. Methods The human nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) cell line CNE2 and its cisplatin-resistant CNE2/DDP cells were treated with bevacizumab and DDP in various concentrations. The lethal effects of the both drugs and the apoptosis rates on CNE2/DDP cells were then measured separately with MTT assay and flow cytometry, the mRNA expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax in CNE2,CNE2/DDP and CNE2/DDP/Bev cells were detected with semi-quantitative RT-PCR.Results The killing rate in 10?g/ml bevacizumab group was similar to that of blank group(0.0?4.1% vs.5.2?4.3%,P=0.180),while the rates of combination of 10?g/ml bevacizumab and DDP(0.1?g/ml and 0.2?g/ml,separately) were higher than that of using DDP only(42.3?6.5% vs.34.4?5.4%,P=0.041;62.6?5.5% vs.50.0?5.9%,P=0.009).The apoptotic rate of CNE2/DDP,which was caused by combining 0.1?g/ml DDP and 10?g/ml bevacizumab, was much higher than what was produced by DDP alone(87.29?3.38% vs.50.58?8.83%,P=0.049).By means of semi-quantitative RT-PCR assay, the expressions of Bcl-2 mRNA in CNE2,CNE2/DDP and CNE2/DDP/Bev cells were 0.613,0.952 and 0.135,respectively.Meanwhile,the expressions of Bax mRNA were 0.665,0.387 and 1.751,separately.Conclusion Bevacizumab can greatly increase the drug sensitivity of CNE2/DDP cells to DDP;apoptosis is inhibited in MDR cells, but it can be promoted by bevacizumab.

Objective To investigate the feasibility, short-term efficacy and adverse effects of 125 I seed implantation guided by ultrasonography or CT in the treatment of recurrent rectal cancers. Methods A total of 15 patients (4 women and 11 men) with recurrent rectal cancer entered the study. Uneer epidural anesthesia, the patients were treated with 125 I seed implantation under the guidance of either transvaginal ultrasonography or CT scans. The prescribed matched peripheral dose (MPD) was 90~110 Gy, with an activity per seed of 0.50~0.70 mCi and the total number of sources implanted of 33~70. Chest and pelvic X-ray examinations were performed within 24~48 hours after implantation to determine whether or not seed misplacement or migration existed. An additional three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy with a 4~6 fields technique was required in 6 patients 4 weeks postoperatively, with 200~300 cGy/fx, 5 fx/week, up to a total dose of 4500~5 000 cGy. Additional chemotherapy with oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil and tetrahydrofolic acid for one treatment course was given in 2 patients. The patients were followed for 3~15 months and the tumors were evaluated by CT findings. Results Relief from pain was achieved at a mean of 7 days after procedure, offering a complete relief in 12 patients, a partial relief in 2, and no change in 1, the effective rate being 93%(14/15). Nine patients showed a complete remission, 2 showed a partial remission, 4 showed a progressive disease, the local control rate being 73%(11/15). Two patients died of the dissemination to lungs. In 1 patient 1 seed had migrated to the pelvic side-wall and did not cause any clinical morbidity in a follow-up of 12 months. Conclusion 125 I implantation in recurrence of rectum cancer guided by ultrasonography or CT was safety, minimally invasion, low morbidity and high efficacy, it was worth of development and promotion.
