1.Effects of different fungi on symbiotic seed germination of two Dendrobium species.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(17):3238-3244
The epiphytic orchid, Dendrobium aphyllum and D. devonianum are used as traditional Chinese medicine, and became locally endangered in recent years because of over-collection. We test the effect of inoculations of endophytic fungi FDaI7 (Tulasnella sp.), FDd1 (Epulorhiza sp. ) and FCb4 (Epulorhiza sp.), which isolated from D. aphyllum, D. denonianum and Cymbidium mannii, respectively, on artificial substrate in these two Dendrobium species. In the symbiotic germination experiment, FDaI7 and FDd1 were effective for protocorm formation and seedling development of D. aphyllum and D. denonianum separately. After 60 days, 14.46% of the D. aphyllum seeds grown to protocorms and 12.07% developed to seedlings inoculated only with FDaI7, while contrasted with 0 when inoculated the other two isolates and non-inoculation treatment. However, in D. denonianum, seeds only grown to protocorms and developed to seedlings when inoculated with FDd1, the percentages were 44.36% and 42.91% distinguishingly. High specificity was shown in symbiotic germination on artificial substrate of Dendrobium. Protocorms could further develop to seedlings within or without light when inoculated the compatible fungi. However, light condition (12/12 h Light/Dark) produced the normal seedlings, while dark condition (0/24 h L/D) produced the abnormal seedlings. These may suggest that the development of young seedlings require light based on the effective symbiotic fungi. These findings will aid in seedling production of simulation-forestry ecology cultivation, conservation and reintroduction of Dendrobium.

BACKGROUND:Leukocytic infiltration induced by release of inflammatory cytotkines and up-regulation of adhesion molecules is closely associated with the formation of cerebral infarcted focus. The related factors have been widely studied.OBJECTIVE: To explore influence of estrogen on inflammatory reaction in rats after focal ischemia/reperfusion injury.DESIGN: Randomized controlled experiment.SETTING: Nanjing General Hospital, Nanjing Military Area Command of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS:The experiment was performed at the Department of Neurology, Department of Pathology, Nanjing General Hospital, Nanjing Military Area Command of Chinese PLA. Adult male SD rats were selected to establish cerebral ischemic models, with the body mass of 280-350 g.METHODS:The rats were assigned into 3 groups: control group, ovariectomized group and estrogen treatment group (estradiol, 200 μg/kg,subcutaneous injection, once a week for 4 weeks). Four weeks later, models with right middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) for 1 hour and 2 hours as well as reperfusion for 0, 1, 3, 6, 22 and 70 hours were established with thread embolism method. Mean number of infiltrative neutrophils in brain tissue was calculated under microscope with 10 high power fields in ischemic hemisphere with hematoxylin and eosin staining. Expression of nuclear factor-κB was determined with immunohistochemical method.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Infiltration of neutrophils and expression of nuclear factor-κB in brain parenchyma.RESULTS: ①Expression of nuclear factor-κB: There was expression of nuclear factor-κB in the ovariectomized group at hour 1 after ischemia.Positive cells appeared at hour 2 after ischemia in the control group and estrogen treatment group. The expression was in the peak at ischemia for 2hours and reperfusion for 3 hours in the three groups, and decreased gradually. There was slight expression at reperfusion for 70 hours in the ovariectomized group, while there was no clear factor-κB positive cell at reperfusion for 22 hours in the control group and estrogen treatment group.②Infiltrative neutrophils in cerebral ischemic region in the ovariectomized group significantly increased at ischemia for 2 hours and reperfusion for 22 hours. Compared with the estrogen treatment group, there was significant difference (P=0.045). At ischemia for 2 hours and reperfusion for 70 hours, infiltrative neutrophils in the ovariectomized group were more than those in the control group and estrogen treatment group, but there were significant differences only between ovariectomized group and control group.CONCLUSION: Estrogen can inhibit inflammatory reaction after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2016;49(7):511-513
Objective To analyze clinical characteristics of pemphigoid nodularis. Methods Seven cases of pemphigoid nodularis were included in this retrospective study. The clinicopathological features of pemphigoid nodularis were retrospectively analyzed, including patients′gender, age at onset, clinical manifestations, treatment and follow?up. Results Of the 7 patients, 4 were female and 3 were male, with the median age at onset being 59 years. Clinical manifestations mainly included markedly pruritic prurigo?like lesions and nodular lesions with or without blisters. The most common misdiagnoses were nodular prurigo and eczema. Pathology showed epidermal hyperplasia and subepidermal clefts, collagen hyperplasia in the papillary dermis, and perivascular infiltration of lymphocytes and eosinophils in the superficial dermis in all the patients. Direct immunofluorescence assay showed linear deposition of IgG and C3 in the basement membrane zone, and indirect immunofluorescence was positive in 2 patients. Glucocorticoids combined with immunosuppressants were effective in all the patients. Conclusions Pemphigoid nodularis is easy to be misdiagnosed, and immunopathology is helpful for its diagnosis. Glucocorticoids combined with immunosuppressants appear to be effective for its treatment.

Objective To establish the reference ranges of preductal oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate (HR) for healthy neonates in 10 minutes after birth. Methods SpO2 and HR recordings of 203 term neonates (vaginal group:n=97 and ce-sarean group:n=106) with regular respiratory pattern were evaluated. 10th-95th percentile charts of SpO2 and HR from 1 minute to 10 minutes after birth were drawn. Results The SpO2 of P10, P50 and P95 at 1 minute after birth was 62%, 71%and 85%respec-tively. The heart rate of P10, P50 and P95 at 1 minute after birth was 66 bpm, 98 bpm and 126 bpm respectively. The median time for SpO2 to reach 90%was 5 minutes. The rising trend of HR was evident during 1-5 minutes after birth, and then the HR leveled off. Conclusions The status of newborn can be assessed using the charts of SpO2 and HR combined with clinical manifestations. The oxygen intervention should be used with care to avoid damage caused by hyperoxemia and hypoxemia.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the growing development and community succession of main sarcosaphagous insects on pig carcasses in summer indoor and outdoor environment in Shenzhen area and to estimate the postmortem interval (PMI).
METHODS:
From early May to August in 2013, in Forensic Medical Examination Center of Shenzhen Public Security Bureau, the main insect species and the decomposition process were observed in two adult pig carcasses of simulative indoor and outdoor environment. The different decomposition stages and the community succession of insects were recorded.
RESULTS:
The indoor and outdoor pig carcasses showed skeleton 412.5 and 325 hours after death, respectively. The main species of flies on pig carcasses were Chrysomya megacephala, Chrysomya rufifacies and Chrysomya chani. The main species of beetles were Crecphilus maxillosus, Necrobia ruficollis, Saprinus splendens and Dermestes maculatu. The dominant species of flies in the outdoor pig carcasses obviously produced the second generations due to the effect of mass rainfall, nor in the indoor pig carcasses.
CONCLUSION
There are regular patterns on the community succession of insects on pig carcasses in summer indoor and outdoor environment in Shenzhen area. The activity patterns of seven typical insects and their larva show important value for estimating PMI.
