Chinese Journal of Bases and Clinics in General Surgery 2003;0(02):-
Objective To study the mechanism of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and discuss its clinical significance in the treatment of mid-late stage liver cancer. Methods The patients with mid-late stage liver cancer were treated with HIFU. The changes of photography, pathology and immunology after operation were evaluated. Results It was shown that the results of the photographic, pathologic and immunologic examinations changed during the treatment of the patients with HIFU. Conclusion HIFU is effective and safe for the treatment of mid-late stage liver cancer.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 2001;8(1):44-47
Since 1960s,total parental nutrition(TPN) has had a great development, while complications after long term of TPN has also been recognized. This article reviews intestinal permeability changes after TPN,its possible mechanism and some recent research progresses.

Objective [WT5”BZ] To evaluate the effects of glycyl glutamine (Gly Gln) on the small intestinal graft. [WT5”HZ]Methods [WT5”BZ] Ten outbrid pigs undergoing small bowel autotransplantation were randomly divided into 2 groups. In STPN group, the animals received standard TPN devoid of Gly Gln,and in GTPN group, the animals received isonitrogenous (0 3?g?kg -1 ?d -1 )and isocaloric (nonprotein calory:137 9?kJ?kg -1 ?d -1 ) TPN with 2% Gly Gln.Animals were fed for 28 days. [WT5”HZ]Results [WT5”BZ] At the end of TPN,the mucosal contents of Gln (1 14?0 20)??mol/g tissue wet weight, protein (101?22)?mg/g and the villous contents of DNA (3 84?0 39) and RNA (3 31?0 14),the graft villous height (308?52) ?m, surface area (0 154?0 019) mm 2 and mucosal thickness(665?72) ?m were significantly higher in the GTPN group than that in STPN group ( P

Objective To investigate the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) on the immunity of patients with advanced primary liver cancer(PLC).Methods Forty cases of PLC admitted to our institution from Mar.2003 to Dec.2003 were included in this study.Patients were divided into 2 groups and received either HIFU or radio-frequency ablation(RFA) treatment randomly.CD3,CD4,CD8,CD4/CD8,NK,IL-2,TNF were chosen to assess the immune status before and after treatment. The results were compared statistically.(Results The) survival rate after HIFU was 80.0%,61.1%,42.9%,33.3% at 3 months,6 months,9 months and 1 year respectively, which was similar to that after RFA treatment. The changes of immunity parameters of CD3,CD4,CD8,CD4/CD8,NK,IL-2 and TNF were not significant after HIFU treatment. In addition, the differences of those parameters between HIFU group and RFA group were insignificant. Conclusion There are no detrimental effects on immunity in the early period after HIFU treatment.

Objective To report the experience on the modified Abb? flap for correction of mild tightness of the corrected cleft lip deformity. Methods Forty-two patients with a mild or moderately tight lip deformity after primary unilateral cleft lip repair were performed a modified Abb? flap for correcting tight upper lip. The operative technique was that the pocket was creased for the vermilion tubercle by splitting the lip. The skin was incised several millimeters beyond the vermilion-skin border and was moved laterally for a distance equal to the breadth of the vermilion tubercle. The orbicularis oris muscle and the full length of the upper lip vermilion were incised. By releasing the tension, the slight concavity, expressed in profile by the slight pout which a normal upper lip had in cross section, was obtained. The Abb? flap that was taken from the central portion of the lower lip vermilion, was designed to repair the vermilion tubercle and the Cupid's bow. The flap was approximately 8 mm in width. The full length of the lower lip vermilion and the orbicularis oris muscle were incorporated. A ting portion of skin was included, which facilitated closure of the donor site, The flap, based on the labial vessels, was rotated 180?and sutured into the created defect of the upper lip. The pedicle was divided 10 days after operation. Results Forty-two patients all showed an obvious Cupid's bow, Cupid's bow peak, the median tubercle and the height and width of the upper lip. The scarring of the base of the nose was not obvious. Conclusion Use of modified Abb? flap to reconstruct the contour of the upper lip is successful in patients with cleft lip.

Objective:To investigate the expressive characters and their significance by detecting the expressions of HBsAg,Fas and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in both hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and their surrounding non-cancerous tissues. The correlation between HBV infection and HCC,and the possible mechanism of hepatocellular carcinogenesis were discussed. Methods:HBsAg,Fas and PCNA were detected by immunohistochemistry from 52 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma as well as 42 corresponding non-cancerous tissues.Clinical data suchas serum AFP levels was also analysed. Results:Both HBsAg and Fas were strongly expressed in non-cancerous tissues, with positive rate of each achieving 78.6%.However their expression rates in cancer tissues were 21.2% and 30.8% respectively, significantly lower and less intensive than that of their corresponding non-cancerous ones(P

Objective To observe expression changes of the telomeric repeat binding factor 2 (TRF2) in mouse cortical neurons during aging and its biological significance. Methods TRF2 expression in cortical neurons of young (2 months) and old (20 months) C57BL/6J mice were tested by Western blot and real time PCR.pcDNA-TRF2 was transfected in embryonal cortical neurons.Neurons viability was determined by MTT after exposure to camptothecin for 16 h.Results TRF2 expression decreased significantly in cortical neurons in old mice than that in young mice. After exposure to camptothecin for 16 h,(75.4±2.6) % of pcDNA TRF2 transfected neurons were viable and the transfection rate was higher in pcDNA-TRF2 transfected neurons than in control transfected neurons [(32.6 ± 9.3) %] (t =22.85,P < 0.05).Conclusions TRF2 expression decreases significantly in aging mouse, downregulation of TRF2 may participate in neurons aging, and TRF2 overexpression may be a potential therapeutic target against neurodegeneration.

Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition 1997;0(03):-
Objective: To evaluate the role of enteral nutrition with dietary fiber and medium chain triglycerides in postoperative patients with gastric cancer. Methods: Forty patientswith gastric cancer receivedenteral diet with dietary fiber and medium chain triglycerides for 7 days. Enteral feeding was initiated 48hours after surgery. Host biochemistryindicators, nutritional parameters and immunity were monitored. Results: With surgical trauma, patients'nutritional status and immunity were impaired, and after nutritional support, the nutritional and immune parameters increased significantly. Conclusions: In postoperative patientswith gastric cancer, enteral nutrition with dietary fiber and medium chain triglycerides can improve the nutritional status and immunity.
