Objective To study the feasibility of composite of human fibrinous gel and transgeneic MSCs aiming at replicating adenoviruses-bone morphogenetic proteins-2 (Ad-BMP-2) in repair of segmental bone defects. Methods Bone defects for 10 mm were created on the bilateral radius of 14 Japanese big ear rabbits and treated with four kinds of implantations (seven radii per group), ie, composite of transgeneic MSCs and fibrinous gel (Group A), composite of MSCs and fibrinous gel (Group B),fibrinous gel alone (Group C) and nothing as control group. The defects were observed radiologically and histologically and examined by biomechanical test at the 12th week after operation. Results The defects treated in the Group A were repaired and regenerated much more new bone, bridged earlier and stronger than those in the Group B 12 weeks after operation. The defects treated in the Groups C and D could not attain osseous tissue healing. Conclusions The composite of transgeneic MSCs and fibrinous gel can be used to effectively repair segmental bone defects.

Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics 2001;0(01):-
Objective To evaluate the medial longitudinal arch of the foot with and without hallux valgus in order to establish the relationship between hallux valgus and the arch. Methods 34 feet of 24 cases with hallux valgus and 34 normal feet of 18 cases were investigated by roentgenography. On the dorsal plantar view while weight-bearing standing, the hallux valgus angle (HVA), the first intermetatarsal angle, and the position of the tibial sesamoid relative to the first metatarsus were measured respectively. On the lateral view while weight-bearing standing, the top angle of the medial longitudinal arch, the anterior angle of the medial longitudinal arch (also named as the first metatarsal inclination angle) and the relative height of the talus, which are similar to measurement of the height of the medial longitudinal arch, were measured respectively. The characteristics of the medial longitudinal arch of the feet with and without hallux valgus were compared, and the correlation between the height of the medial longitudinal arch and the severity of the hallux valgus, which were manifested by the hallux valgus angle, first intermatatarsal angle, the relative position of the tibial sesamoid, was analyzed. Results The top angle of medial longitudinal arch was 136.9??7.6? in hallux valgus feet and 126.7??2.1? in normal feet; the anterior angle of medial longitudinal arch was 10.8??2.6? in hullux valgus feet and 16.6??1.6? in normal feet; the relative ratio of height of talus was 0.159?0.03 in hallux valgus feet and 0.199?0.01 in normal feet , there was significant difference between two groups. While with the increase of the lateral displacement of tibial sesamoid, the angle of hullxus valgus and the first intermetatarsal angle, the top angle of medial longitudinal arch became larger, the anterior angle of arch became smaller, and the relative height of talus became lower. The medial longitudinal arch of the foot with hallux valgus was collapsed, and there was moderate to high relationship between the height of the medial longitudinal arch and the severity of the hallux valgus. Conclusion Hallux valgus is a three dimensional deformity, which will disturb the normal biomechanics of the foot.

Objective: To explore the effect of low-level laser irradiation (LLLI) preconditioning on milieu of infarcted myocardium in experimental rats.
Methods: The myocardial infarction (MI) model was established by left anterior descending (LAD) artery ligation in female rats. 3 weeks later, the qualified MI rats were randomly divided for 3 groups: ① LLLI preconditioning group, the rats received thoracotomy for LLLI by a 635nm, 5mW diode laser with the energy density of 0.96 J/cm2 for 150 seconds, n=26. ② Control group, the rats received thoracotomy for daylight irradiation, n=27. ③ Sham operation group, the rats received thoracotomy without LAD ligation, n=24. The Expressions of myocardial vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were evaluate by real time-PCR, Western blot analysis and other relevant laboratory test at 1 hour, 1 day and 1 week after treatment. The myocardial cell apoptosis was examined by TUNEL staining, and left ventricular function was detected by echocardiography.
Results: LLLI preconditioning obviously increased the myocardial VEGF, GRP78 expression and SOD activity, decreased MDA production; while it could not really improve the myocardial cell apoptosis at peri-infarcted area and left ventricular function in experimental rats.
Conclusion: LLLI preconditioning may improve the milieu of infarcted myocardium via decreasing the oxidative stress in experimental rats.

Objective To treat scalp lacerations by using the hair apposition technique (HAT) and to compare the HAT with standard suturing in a controlled prospective trial. Method Fifty patients with scalp lacerations were treated either by HAT or by standard suturing. Two groups were evaluated in consumed times for operation, pain sores, and complications. Results There were 30 HAT patients and 20 patients treated with suturing. The took shorter operation time consumed[(3.33 vs. (6.05 t = 4.85.P < 0.01], and HAT produced significantly lower pain score [(1.73vs. (3.20t = 4.01,P < 0.01]. There was a trend that more and more patients were willing to have HAT performed. Conclusions The advantages of HAT include a shorter time consumed for operation, less pain, satisfactory wound healing, and high acceptance by patients. HAT is acceptable for treating scalp lacerations in emergency room.

Objective To design Radio-Frequency Identification(RFID) reader with multi-antennas of different spatial location. Methods Design scheme of RFID reader with multi-antennas of difference spatial location was presented,i.e.a separated setting with a reader and multiple detected antennas was adopted. Each antenna only identified tags in its own area. The receiving information from tags contains antenna code and data in tag's IC.Hence the reader can point the tags position through different antenna code. Results The application of RFID with multi-antennas of different spatial location to management system of combat readiness medicine can provide safe, exact and real-time information collection, processing and query for combat readiness medicine. Conclusion The system can not only provide location identification, but also reduce system cost.It will have wide application in future.

Objective To investigate the effect and mechanism of S100A16 in the course of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes differentiation.MethodsA recombinant virus vector overexpressing S100A16 ( PLJM1-S100A16-GFP) was constructed and transfected into 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. The expression of S100A16 in the course of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes differentiated into adipocytes was detected by Western blot. The lipid droplets were observed by oil-red O staining and triglycercide (TG) content was measured by the TG measure kit.Levels of adipogenesis-associated genes such as PPARγ,CCAAT/enhancer binding protein ( C/EBP-α),lipoprotein lipase ( LPL),fatty acid synthase ( FAS),adipocyte fatty acid binding protein( aP2 ) were measured by realtime PCR and Western blot. The interaction between S100A16 and p53 was detected by immunoprecipitation.Results3T3-L1 cell line overexpressing S100A16was successfully contructed. It was found that the expression of S100A16 was increased during 3T3-L1 adipocytes differentiation.Overexpression of S100A16 stimulated 3T3-L1 preadipocytes differentiation and increased the accumulation of triglycerides in adipocytes (P< 0.01 ),along with the up-regulation of adipocyte differentiationassociated gene expressions including PPARγ,C/EBP-α,LPL,aP2,and FAS ( P < 0.05 or P < 0.01 ).Immunoprecipitation analysis revealed that S100A16 interacted with tumor suppressor protein p53,also a known inhibitor of adipogenesis.ConclusionS100A16 stimulates 3T3-LI preadipocytes differentiation via inhibiting p53activity.
