By analyzing the connotation and research status of life culture, the authors of the article have pointed out that the introduction of life cultural education is a new interpretation of medical humanities education and can give full play to their role as educating people. They have also put for-ward that we should grasp its open and comprehensive characteristics in work, and carry out life cul-tural education comprehensively and by multi-channels. Medical colleges can try to construct scientific cultural education system, design useful education content, set up diversified education platform and carry out the multi-channel and all-round life cultural education from the classroom teaching, practice, campus activities and so on.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2012;(z1):23-26
Objective To discuss the prognostic impact of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with chronic heart failure(CHF).Methods From January,2005 through December,2006 we studied 461 patients with a discharge diagnosis of CHF.Patients were divided by baseline rhythm in sinus rhythm(SR) or AF groups. The main endpoints were all cause death within 3 years and readmission to the hospital for heart failure. Results AF group were more likely to be older and female and to have a history of valvular disease and have a higher left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).However,SR group were more likely to have a history of ischemic heart disease.During 3 year follow-up,the main endpoints was higher in AF group than in those with SR group (P <0.01).After adjusting for other covariables,AF and age were related to increased the risk of main endpoints during 3 years follow-up (RR =1.311,95% CI:1.002-1.715,P <0.05 ; RR =1.014,95% CI:1.004-1.024,P < 0.01).Conclusion AF and age were the main risk factors of increased adverse forward prognosis in patients with CHF.

Objective To study the clinical manifestations, etiology, magnetic resonance imaging features, prognosis of patients with bilateral medial medullary infarction. Methods The clinical information of two case reports were summarized with review of the literature. Results The 2 patients with bilateral medial medullary infarction reported here were manifested with progressive quadriplegia, both complicated with respiratory disorders. On etiology, both were due to atherosclerosis, and one was combined with congenital vascular variation. The Y shaped hyperintense signals were seen in diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) cross-section in the medulla oblongata level. And both had poor outcomes that one was dead and the other was discharged with tracheotomy and severe sequela. Conclusions Bilateral medial medullary infarction is presented with complicated symptoms such as quadriplegia, dysarthria, hypoglossoplegia, even respiratory failure,in which quadriplegia is most often seen, and it is associated with a poor clinical prognosis.DWI appears the characteristic Y Shaped sign.

Objective To study the phenylpropanoid constituents from the roots of Euphorbia hylonoma Hand-Mazz. Methods The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, and the structures were elucidated on the basis of chemical properties and spectral data. Results Three phenylpropanoid constituents were isolated from the acetone extracts of the roots of Euphorbia hylonoma Hand-Mazz,which were hexadecyl-3-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzeneacrylate Ⅰ,ethyl brevifolincarboxylate Ⅱ and(+) 3′-angeloyl-4′-isovalerylcis-khellactone peuformosin Ⅲ. Conclusion The above compounds were isolated from Euphorbia hylonoma Hand-Mazz for the first time, and the compound Ⅲ was the first obtained from the Euphorbiaceae.

BACKGROUND:Glial scar and cavity formation fol owing spinal cord injury inhibits axonal entrance, so limited axonal regeneration, less secretion of neurotrophic factor and inhibitors in the microenvironment of axonal growth are considered as major impediments for impacting functional recovery of patients with spinal cord injury.
OBJECTIVE:To analyze literatures home and abroad related to the biological characters of astrocytes and glial scar hyperplasia after spinal cord injury, and to provide a theoretical basis for the mechanism underlying glial scar formation fol owing spinal cord injury.
METHODS:PubMed and Wanfang databases were retrieved using the keywords“astrocytes, reactive astrogliosis, glial scar, spinal cord injury”in English and Chinese, respectively. Final y 62 literatures were selected for overview.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Currently, studies concerning the biological characters of astrocytes, reactive astrogliosis and glial scar formation fol owing spinal cord injury have achieved some progresses. Studies mainly focus on the sole impediment for spinal cord injury, and treatment also aims at inhibiting single factor, but interactions among factors have not been confimed. In addition, the regulatary mechanisms of specific intracel ular and extracel ular signal molecule in the astrocytes, and effective control and interference of glial scar formation fol owing spinal cord injury stil need in-depth study.

Objective To compare the quality of life ( QOL) in different family life cycle residents and analyze its influencing factors. Methods Based on the stratified cluster sampling,517 married residents from three communities of Dongguan city were chosen to be investigated by a questionnaire on the general status and the MOS health survey (SF-36).The One-Way ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis were used to analyze the data. Result There were significant differences on the seven domains of the SF-36 ex-cept of physical pain in different family life cycle residents (P<0.05) . The scores of different domains at the retirement or senior years were the lowest ( ranging from 37.10-59.81) ,and the scores of different domains at the child-bearing period were highest (ranging from 37.10-59.81). The results of Multiple Linear Stepwise Regression showed that the QOL of different family life cycle residents were influenced by some factors. The influencing factors on PCS at the child-bearing period were income (β=1.51) and life events (β=-6.13), while that at the period of families with adolescents were economic income (β=1.81) and age (β=-0.65);that at the period of empty nest were economic income (β=-3.64) and age (β=-0.65);and that at the re-tirement or senior years were unhealthy living habit (β=-15.06),age (β=-0.56) and income (β=3.06). The influencing factors on MCS at the child-bearing period was medical insurance (β=5.86),while that at the period of families with adolescents were medical insurance (β=6.28),education (β=2.32),life events (β=-4.68) and occupation (β=-5.53);that at the period of the empty nest were age (β=-0.61) ,gender (β=-10.35) and chronic disease (β=-8.35);that at the retirement or senior years were age (β=-0.27) , economic income (β=2.55) and unhealthy living habit (β=-6.95) . Conclusion The influencing factors of QOL for different family cycle residents are not conformity with each other. It suggested that in order to im-prove the QOL of residents, the community health service including health education and health promotion should be based on different family life cycle.
