Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2015;(9):455-458
[ABSTRACT]OBJECTIVETo study clinical features and imaging manifestations of facial nerve hemangioma. METHODSClinical data of 5 cases with facial nerve hemangioma, who were diagnosed and treated in facial lab of Beijing Shijitan hospital between January 2006 and December 2011, were collected. There were 2 male and 3 female. The age ranged from 29-44 years. Among the 5 cases with facial nerve hemangioma, both HRCT of temporal bone and facial nerve enhancement MRI were performed on 4 cases, and one case underwent facial nerve enhancement MRI examination only.RESULTSAll the 5 cases firstly presented with sudden unilateral facial palsy. Facial palsy affected the left and right side in 4 cases and 1 case, respectively. Geniculate ganglion was affected in all cases. Local bony canal expansion at geniculate ganglion, labyrinthine segment and horizontal segment was the main manifestation of facial nerve hemangioma on HRCT, and the surrounding bone was incontinuous and less regular. The typical appearance was point-shape or pin-shape, similar to honeycomb structure. On MRI, soft tissue node image around geniculate ganglion accompanied by thickness of the adjacent facial nerve was the chief appearance. It showed mixed T1, uneven and slightly longer T2 signal with less clear border on horizontal scanning, and abnormal enhancement was exhibited after enhancement scanning.CONCLUSIONDetailed history together with HRCT of temporal bone and multi-planar reconstruction MPR as well as facial nerve enhancement MRI were useful for preoperative diagnosis of facial nerve hemangioma. The tumor should be removed with surgical approach was based on hearing conditions, tumor scale and the affected sites.in order to preserve integrity of facial nerve if possible.

Objectives: To clarify the antiarrhythmia mechanism of matrine by observing its effects on intracellular calcium concentration in cultured myocardial cells of SD rats. Methods: Myocardial cells of newborn(sucking) rats were fed with culture medium supplemented with verapamil、 potassium chloride and different dose of matrine, respectively. By means of the image analysis system, intensity changes of intracellular calcium were determined with the fluorescent probe to estimate indirectly inward calcium influx under the influence of matrine. Results: It was found that high potassium caused an increase in fluorescent intensity of intracellular calcium which could be inhibited by matrine. Conclusion: It is suggested that matrine may be a kind of calcium antagonium producing its antiarrhythmic action.

Animal model is very important for anti-EV71 (enterovirus 71) drug and vaccine development. 1-day-old suckling EV71 mouse model is the main in vivo model used in China. 1-day-old suckling EV71 mouse is too small to perform antiviral experiment. And the route of administration and dosage capacity are also restricted. A strong virulence EV71 virus strain was selected after screening from five EV71 strains with 1-day-old suckling mice. A mouse-adapted EV71 strain with increased virulence in 12-day-old suckling mice, EV71-M5, was generated after five serial passages of the parental EV71 strain in mice. Virus titers of EV71 infected mice heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, small intestine, brain and muscle tissue were determined by cytopathic effect (CPE) assay. The virus used in this model is the first isolated EV71 strain in China. And 2-week-old suckling mice were used in this model. This is a supplement for the EV71 animal model in China. Establishment of this EV71 model will provide an attractive platform for anti-EV71 vaccine and drug development.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2014;28(17):1349-1351
OBJECTIVE:
To estimate the prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) in a community center in Beijing.
METHOD:
We randomly investigated a community with 13 900 inhabitents in Beijing by means of questionnaire survey.
RESULT:
A total of 2000 questionnaires was send out, and 1988 of them were collected, which included 952 males and 1036 females (age: 1 to 96 years old, 128 cases are younger than 14 years old. Among of them, 194 cases (9.76%) were diagnosed as having AR according to epidemiologic definition, including 14 children. The prevalence of AR was 9.68% in adults, with male 10.21% and female 9.18%, 10.94% in children. The prevalence in male are slightly higher than in female both with adults and children but without statistic significance.
CONCLUSION
The survey showed the incidence of AR in Beijing are 9.76% in population, adults 9.68%, children (younger than 12) 10.94%. AR patients are more likely to have other allergic diseases.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2014;49(12):1631-8
The challenge of the emergence of drug-resistant influenza strains, which is caused by wide spread utilization of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), accelerates the research and exploration towards host targeted agents. In contrast to DAAs targeting viral replication components, host targeted agents, which regulate host factors and pathways linked to viral replication, can interfere the replication of influenza. Additionally, the innate immune system is activated by influenza during the early stage of infection, so manipulating the innate immune response may prevent the viral infection. However, the excessive inflammatory response induced at the late phase of influenza infection would lead to severe tissue injures. Thus, it is very important to explore drugs with anti-inflammatory actions to suppress these immune imbalances and tissue injures. Here we overview the current progresses about host targets related to anti-influenza drugs.

Objective To investigate the surgical strategy for degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DIS)and evaluate the clinical results of the posterior correction and fusion technique. Methods From May 2003 to May 2009,27 patients with DIS were treated posterior operation. All the patients were performed posterior laminectomy, spinal fusion and correction with pedicle screws system. Among the patients, 18 cases with posterolateral bone grafting,9 cases complicated spondylolishesis with PLIF intervertebral combined with posterolateral fusion. Results All the cases were followed up for a minimum of 12 months and 88.9% (24/27) of them had excellent or good outcome, Oswestry score was(21.54 ± 1.95 )%;22 cases were followed up for 24 months and showed a rate for excellent or good results of 86.4%( 19/22),and Oswestry score was (24.26 ± 2.32)%. Oswestry scores of the postoperative 12,24 months were lower than that before operation (57.83 ± 2.71 )%. There was statistical difference in the cases preoperation and postoperation. Correction of scoliosis of the coronal plane was 47.2%. Preoperative lumbar lordosis was augmented from 23.6°± 8.3° to 43.8°± 9.1°. One case complicated with wound infection during perioperation period, and 2 eases with heart diseases. The screw of 1 case was loosening at 3 months postoperation. Conclusion Decompressing thoroughly and improving lumbar lordosis, the operation of posterior correction and bone graft fusion shows good results for degenerative lumbar scoliosis.
