This study was aimed to analyze the living status and medication rules of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment of postoperative patients with stage II and III colorectal cancer by Prof. Y ang Y ufei. A total of 70 postoperative patients with stage II and III colorectal cancer were enrolled in the cohort study at the Xiyuan Hospital from September 2007 to August 2009. The out-patient records were reviewed and follow-ups were given for the analysis. The results showed that until July 2013, the loss to follow-up rate was 8.6%, which was less than 15%. The four-year postoperative recurrence and metastasis rates of the high and low exposure group were 7.1% and 25.0%, respectively. The Fisher exact probability test showed that the high exposure and long period therapy of TCM treatment can significantly reduce the recurrence and metastasis rate of patients (P < 0.05). The analysis of Prof. Y ang Y ufei's medication rules in TCM treatment of postoperative colorectal cancer showed that the syndrome differ-entiation pattern with the highest frequency was spleen-stomach deficiency pattern; and the liver-kidney yin defi-ciency pattern was in the second place. The prescriptions used with the highest frequency were Si-Jun-Zi Decoction and Liu-Wei-Di-Huang Decoction. It was concluded that the comprehensive TCM treatment can improve the prog-nosis of stage II and III colorectal cancer. The treatment also has certain meaning in the reducing of the recurrence and metastasis rate of patients, and prolonging the time of the recurrence and metastasis.

Objective To study the value of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE)in combination with portal vein chemotherapy (PVC) after resection of hepatocellular carcinoma to prolong survival. Methods From January 2000 to July 2007, 168 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) underwent tumor resection in our hospital. After operation, TACE in combination with PVC was performed in 48 patients (combined group), TACE alone in 26 (TACE group), PVC alone in 50 (PVC group) and none of the above in 44 (control group). All the patients were followed up for 17-96 months. The 1-, 3-and 5-year survival rates were compared among the 4 groups. Results Accumulative 1-, 3-and 5-year survival rates were higher in the combined and TACE groups than in PVC and control groups. Conclusion After resection of HCC, combined use of TACE and PVC is the same as TACE in prolonging patient survival. However, it is better than PVC alone and non-surgical procedure.

ObjectiveTo measure the displacement of solitary pulmonary lesion (SPL) using fourdimensional CT (4DCT), and to compare the planning target volume using 4D maximum intensity projection (MIPMIP) ( PTV4DMIP ) with the empirical PTV3D.Methods Data were acquired from 24 consecutive patients with SPL. For each patient, respiration-synchronized 4DCT images and standard axial CT scans were obtained during free breathing. In lung window setting, the 4D technique was used to measure the displacement of SPL in three dimensions. We compared an PTV created using the MIP (PTV4DMIP) to the PTV created from the gross tumor volume (GTV) enlarged isotropically for each spatial direction by 1.0 cm and 1. 5 cm in the PTV3D1.0cm and PTV3D1.5cm. Results The SPL located in the lower lobe showed significant difference with the upper and middle lobe in y axis (0. 44 cm,0. 92 cm, t =2. 87, P =0. 000),but there was no difference in both x and z axis (0. 27 cm,0. 39 cm,t =1.44 ,P =0. 116 and 0. 29 cm,0. 40 cm,t =1.51, P =0. 227). SPL showed significantly greater displacement in y axis than in both x and z axis [0.60 cm and0. 31 cm (t =4.23,P=0.000) ,0.60 cm and 0.32 cm (t =4.65,P=0. 000)], but there was no significant difference between x and z axis (0. 31 cm,0. 32 cm,t =0. 33 ,P =0. 741 ). There was no statistically difference between the peripheral lung cancer and the pulmonary metastasis tumor in three directions ( x axis : 0. 37 cm,0. 32 cm, t =0. 52, P =0. 223 ; y axis : 0. 54 cm, 0. 95 cm, t =- 1.38, P =0.061;z axis:0.42 cm,0.37 cm, t=0.29, P=0.859).Both PTV3D1.0cm and PTV3D1.5cm showed significantly greater volume than PTV4DMIP(46. 73 cm3 ,86. 52 cm3 and 30. 02 cm3 ,t =- 11.35, - 12. 09,P =0. 000,0. 000). ConclusionsThe displacement of SPL in y axis is much greater than x and z axis. The empirical PTV3D is much bigger than PTV4DMIP, which suggests that 4DMIP provide adequate coverage of the moving target and minimize dose to normal tissues.

Adopting the two-step method and changing the proportion between PEG (Polyethylene glycol) and PTMG (poly (tetrahydrofuran), we used the MDI (4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate) and short chain extender BDO (1,4-butanediol) as hard segment, the PTMG and PEG as soft segment, and hence prepared a series of polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethanes. FTIR showed the structure character of these polyurethanes. The determination of mechanics property and water contact angles revealed their good mechanics properties and hydrophilicity. Blood compatibility was evaluated by hemolysis test and platelet adhesion test, which revealed their good hemocompatibility. So those polyurethanes may be of wide application in the future.

Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of normotensive pheochromocyto-ma. Methods The clinical data of 22 patients with normotensive pheochromocytoma were reviewed. Inclusion criteria for normotensive pheochromocytoma were no previous history of hypertension and episode of symptoms suggesting high blood pressure. The blood pressure on admission was 90-130/ 60-90 mm Hg with an average of 113/72 mm Hg. Seven patients were found adrenal mass by routine ultrasonic examination. Twelve patients presented with superior abdominal or flank pain. Four pa-tients were present with fatigue, and 2 patients had fever. Headache and palpitation were found in 1 patient. Most of patients were present with large and round mass with low density area in the center of the tumor by uhrosonography and CT. Four patients had elevated level of plasma epinephrine and nor-epinephrine. 24 hours urine CA and VMA were elevated in 5 and 4 patients respectively. Seven pa-tients were prepared with infusion preoperatively to expand intravascular volume, and 2 patients were given prazosin 1.5 mg/d for 5 to 7 days. Results During the operation, seventeen patients had ele-vated blood pressure and 5 patients had no changed. One of seven patients with preoperative prepara-tion had obvious hypertension during operation, and 11 of 15 patients without preoperative preparation had obvious hypertension. The tumors were removed successfully in 21 patients. All the patients were diagnosed pheochromocytoma pathologically. Twenty-one patients had normal blood pressure with no recurrence during the follow-up from 1 month to 7 years. Conclusions The patients with normotensive pheochromocytomas may have lower catecholamine in their plasma and urine. The application of α-blockers and the expanding intravascular volume before operation could be important for the patients safe.
