To ascertain current situation of wild Marsdenia tenacissima resources in Honghe, Yunnan province, the distribution, habitat characteristic and resources reserves of M. tenacissima were surveyed based on interviews and investigation. The results showed that M. tenacissima was found in 7 counties such as Jinping, Mengzi etc, and distributed mainly on the mountainsides from 800 m to 1 200 m. And distribution was affected by many factors, such as light, heat, topography, soil, and vegetation. M. tenacissima grew well in distribution areas. M. tenacissima had averagely a weight of 2.8 kg per plant. Resources reserve of M. tenacissima in Honghe was estimated to 1 300 tons by now but it reduced rapidly in resent years, the wild resources reserve may not meet demand of market. Resources protection and wildlife tending would be conducted to deal with increasing medication requirements.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2003;38(9):695-697
AIMTo analyze the response factors of different quinolone antibiotics detected by evaporative light-scattering detector (ELSD).
METHODSThe response factors of five different quinolones (enoxacin, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, lomefloxacin and gatifloxacin) detected by ELSD were determined by using a YMC-Pack ODS-AM cloumn (150 mm x 4.6 mm ID, 5 microns) as analytical column and 0.5% triethylamine (adjusting pH 2.5 with trifluoroacetic acid)-acetonitrile (48:12) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.6 mL.min-1, the temperature of the drift tube was set at 117 degrees C, and the flow of carrier gas at 3.0 L.min-1. Detector responses (A) and the amount of injection of each substance (m) were fitted to the logarithmic regression: log A = b log m + log a.
RESULTSThe linear regression equation obtained were: enoxacin: Y = 1.0799X + 2.7611, r2 = 0.9996; levofloxacin: Y = 1.0913X + 2.7235, r2 = 0.9997; ciprofloxacin: Y = 1.0828X + 2.7523, r2 = 0.9994; lomefloxacin: Y = 1.0891X + 2.7391, r2 = 0.9993; gatifloxacin: Y = 1.0878X + 2.7392, r2 = 0.9995. The differences between them were negligible.
CONCLUSIONDifferent quinolones can give the same responses with ELSD detection. So, the HPLC-ELSD methods can be applied to the determination of new substances by using another substance as reference.

Chinese Journal of Trauma 2003;0(09):-
Objective To prepare controlled release microspheres of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)& calcium alginate and observe their effect on proliferation of human umbilical vein endo- thelial cells(HUVEC)in order to provide theoretical basis for controlled release of VEGF facilitating an- giogenesis of tissue engineering bone. Methods VEGF-calcium alginate microspheres were prepared by using the needle extrusion/external gelation method to investigate physicochemical character and in vitro release of VEGF.According to the different ingredients added into the culture medium, the seconda- ry cultured HUVEC were divided into four groups,ie,control group, microsphere group,VEGF group and VEGF-calcium alginate microsphere group,in which the proliferation of the cultured HUVEC was ob- served with cell counting method,MTT method and flow cytometry. Results The calcium alginate mi- crospheres were revealed as spherical shape and evenly distributed, with mean grain diameter of(560?50)?m,carrying capacity of 0.72 ng/mg and the encapsulation efficiency of 54%.Smooth controlled re- lease in VEGF-alginate microspheres lasted for more than 10 days.Proliferation of the cultured HUVEC was accelerated the most in VEGF group at the beginning but in EGF-calcium alginate microsphere group at midanaphase compared with other groups, with statistical difference(P<0.05).There was no statis- tical difference upon cell counting, cell activity and time point of cell cycle between control group and mi- crosphere group. Conclusion VEGF-sodium alginate microapheres can continue activity of VEGF,re- lease VEGF for over 10 days and promote proliferation cultured HUVEC for a long time.
