BACKGROUND: Microcirculation disturbance of pharynx may be one of the pathogenesis base caused recurrent attacks of chronic pharyngitis. The negative pressure can improve the microcirculation of inflammary target organs by biomechanical changes.OBJECTIVE: To explore the therapeutic effect of oral negative pressure on patients with chronic pharyngitis and nail fold microcirculation.DESIGN: A randomized single blind controlled observation.SETTING: Department of Pathophysiology of Hebei North University.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 65 patients with chronic pharyngitis and course of disease about 1-3 years admitted to Department of Neurology,First affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from January to September 2002 were selected. They were randomly divided into treatment group (n=35) and control group (n=30), including 36 cases with chronic pharyngitis (18 cases from the treatment group, 18 cases from the control group), 29with chronic hypertrophied pharyngitis (17 cases from the treatment group,12 cases from the control group).METHODS: The Hices oral negative pressure instrument was used and the negative pressure exert equipment was put into the optimal position of the patients' mouth to keep the negative pressure of (0.05±0.01) Mpa, 10minutes once (the first therapy time was 5 minutes), once daily and the time was fixed, 5 days as a period of therapy for three periods. Patients in the control group were also given the negative pressure exerts equipment, but no negative pressure was exerted.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Observation and evaluation of nail fold microcirculation: The nail fold microcirculation was observed by the XTL- Ⅱ microcirculation micro-television system, and the first row nail fold of the left ring figure was checked conventionally to record the state of microvessel, state of micro-bloodstream and peri-loop. The degree of microcirculatory disturbance was quantitatively analyzed according to Tian Niu's weighing integral method, the lower the scores, the better the microcirculation. ②The improvement of chronic pharyngitis after treatment of 3courses.RESULTS: Totally 65 patients with chronic pharyngitis entered the stage of result analysis. ①After 1 course of treatment, the symptoms of 1/3 of the patients in the treatment group were significantly improved; after 3 courses of treatment, except there was no obvious changes of hypertrophied morphology such as lymphatic follicle proliferation on posterior wall of throat and hypertrophy on side cable of throat, the pathological signs and prevalence of mucosa congestion were obviously lower than those before treatment and the control group (P < 0.05-0.01) effective rate was 88.6%.②) Improvement of microcirculation disturbance with chronic pharyngitis was evident, restoring to basically normal from medium degree abnormality before treatment, the total score values reduced to 1.941 ±0.165 from 4.836±0.242 (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Oral negative pressure can significantly release or eliminate the symptoms and signs of chronic pharyngitis, which may relate to improvement of microcirculation disturbance.
4.Study and clinical application of the theory "moxibustion can be used for heat syndrome".
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2005;25(10):715-716
In order to study on the clinically difficult problem, "is moxibustion suitable for heat syndrome?" cite and analyze relative papers in classical treaties about acupuncture and moxibustion, in combination with the many years' practical experiences of the author and experimental studies of modern medicine. And Textually research the treatment principle of "positive and negative go against" and the treatment method of "using heat to induce heat", which is a theoretical basis of "moxibustion being suitable for heat syndrome". Experimental studies have proved that moxibustion has bacteriostatic effect, and functions abatement of fever and improving microcirculation. It is indicated that moxibustion is suitable to treatment of all heat syndromes including excess-heat and deficiency-heat syndromes.

According to the super-position principle of the reinforcement of biological activities, a series of novel E-substituted 2, 3-diaryl propenoic acyloxy phosphonate derivatives were designed and synthesized. And the structures of the target compounds were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and elemental analysis. Furthermore, the cytotoxicities of all compounds on A-549, SGC-7901 and EC-109 in vitro were evaluated by MTT assay, and some of them showed good antitumor activity. Among the active compounds, especially, the IC50 value of compound 3e was (12.7 ± 1.9) μmol x L(-1) against A-549 cells, similar to cisplatin [IC50 = (8.0 ± 1.5) μmol x L(-1)], compounds 3g and 3k had better inhibition effect on EC-109 cells growth, with the IC50 values of (9.5 ± 1.8) μmol x L(-1) and (11.5 ± 0.9) μmol x L(-1) respectively, and compounds 3i and 3k exhibited good cytotoxic property on A-549, SGC-7901 and EC-109, which were worth further investigation.

Chinese Journal of Oncology 2006;28(11):831-835
OBJECTIVETo compare the value of conventional cytology and DNA image cytometry (DNA-ICM) assisted cytology in detection and prognostic assessment of cervical CIN lesions.
METHODS87 women were enrolled in this study. Cervical samples were collected employing cervix brushes which were then washed in Sedfix. After preparing single cell suspensions by mechanical procedure, cell monolayers were prepared by cyto-spinning the cells onto microscope slides. Two slides were prepared from each case: one slide was stained by Papanicolou staining for conventional cytology, another was stained by Feulgen-Thionin method for measurements of the amount of DNA in the cell nuclei using an automated DNA imaging cytometer. Biopsies from the cervical lesions were also taken for histopathology and Ki-67 immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSOf the total of 20 ASCUS cases called by conventional cytology, no CIN, nor greater lesions were found. Among the 20 cases, 7 cases did not show any cells with DNA amount greater than 5c, while CIN2 lesions were found in 11 of other 13 cases that had some aneuploid cells with DNA amount greater than 5c. Of 30 LSIL cases called by conventional cytology, CIN2 lesions were detected in 3 out of 7 cases that did not contain any aneuploid cells with DNA greater than 5c, but in 22 out of the other 23 cases that contained aneuploid cells with DNA amount greater than > 5c. Of the remaining 7 cases called HSIL by conventional cytology, all case contained aneuploid cells containing DNA greater than 5c. If cytology was used to refer all cases of LSIL and HSIL to colposcopy procedure to detect potential CIN2 or greater lesions, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 58.2%, 84.4%, 86.5% and 54.0%, respectively. If DNA-ICM were used and all cases having 3 or more cells with a DNA amount greater than 5c were assessed to be referred to pathology to detect potential CIN2 or greater lesions, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive were 72.7% , 87.5%, 90.9% and 65.1%, respectively. We also compared Ki67 positive cells in these samples and found that DNA-ICM results were comparable to this biomarker method.
CONCLUSIONThe study demonstrated that DNA-ICM approach can be successfully used to detect significant (i.e. CIN2 or greater) lesions, and also provide a prognostic assessment of CIN lesions.

OBJECTIVETo explore the mechanism of electroacupuncture on rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODSIn a randomized and controlled trial, sixty-three cases with RA were randomly divided into an electroacupuncture group (n = 32) and a simple acupuncture group (n = 31). Baihui (GV 20), Fengchi (GB 20), Quchi (LI 11), Waiguan (TE 5), Guanyuan (CV 4) and Zusanli (ST 36) were selected by coordination method combined whole and local acupoints. The electroacupuncture group was treated with electroacupuncture at the local acupoints near painful joints, continuous wave, retaining needle for 30 minutes, and then electroacupuncture at Back-shu acupoints, retaining needle for 15 minutes, and the simple acupuncture group was treated with the same acupoints selection and acupuncture manipulation without electroacupuncture apparatus. They were all treated once every other day for 20 days as one course. After 3 courses, changes of interleukins in peripheral blood and joint fluid of patients were observed.
RESULTSBoth of electroacupuncture and simple acupuncture had significant effect on IL-1, IL-4, IL-6 and IL-10 in peripheral blood and joint fluid of patients with RA ( P < 0.01, P < 0.05). But after electroacupuncture, the absolute value and improvement value of decreasing IL-1 in peripheral blood and joint fluid were super than those of simple acupuncture (all P < 0.05), and of IL-4 in joint fluid was super than that after simple acupuncture (P < 0.05), and of IL-6 and the absolute value of decreasing IL-10 were almost the same after both treatment (all P > 0.05), and after electroacupuncture, the improvement value of IL-10 in peripheral blood and joint fluid were super than those after simple acupuncture (both P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONElectroacupuncture can effectively decrease the proinflammatory cytokine of IL-1 and IL-6 and increase the inhibition cytokine of IL-4 and IL-10 and improve the internal environment of occurrence and progression of RA.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) on tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in peripheral blood and joint synovia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to verify the clinical efficacy of EA.
METHODSAdopting randomized controlled principle, the 63 RA patients enrolled were assigned to two groups, the 32 patients in the EA group were treated with EA, and the 31 patients in the simple needling (SN) group treated with simple needling. According to the integral-local combining method, the acupoints were selected mainly from yang-meridian and local Ashi points (pain-point). EA or SN was applied every other day, 10 times as a course, and each patient received a total of 3 courses of treatment.
RESULTSBlood and synovial levels of TNF-α and VEGF were reduced significantly after treatment in both groups. The lowering (absolute value and difference value) of TNF-α as well as the absolute value of VEGF, either in blood or in synovia, were similar in the two groups (P>0.05); but the lowering of VEGF after treatment was more significant in the EA group than that in the SN group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONEA could effectively lower the contents of TNF-α and VEGF in peripheral blood and joint synovia to improve the internal environment for genesis and development of RA, so as to enhance the clinical therapeutic effectiveness.
