In response to problems from the development of multi-drug-resistant pathogenic bacteria,it is urgent to find new antimicrobials.Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs) are a kind of ideal new antimicrobials with the advantages including their potential for broad-spectrum activity,rapid bactericidal activity and low propensity for resistance development,and have a bright future.Alpha-helical antimicrobial peptides are a main kind of AMPs.The following features was reviewed and elucidated including the structure and activity relationship(SAR) from different aspects including the degree of helicity,hydrophobic moment,hydrophobicity,net positive charges and so on,and the application of SAR on the molecular design and improvement of AMPs.

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of laparoscopic renalcyst unroofing as compared with open surgery.Methods The clinical data of 30 cases(group A) receiving glaparoscopic renalcyst unroofing from February 2002 to March 2005 and 15 cases(group B) receiving open renalcyst unroofing from February 2002 to February 2004 were retrospectively analyzed.The rating of depression and anxiety before operation,operating time,amount of bleeding during operation,recovery of intestinal function after operation,ambulation and normal activities after operation,the time of using intravenous after operation,the times of using analgesic after operation,the operation cost,total cost of hospitalization,the hospital stay and complications were compared between group A and group B.Results In group A,the amount of bleeding during renalcyst unroofing operation,the recovery of intestinal function after operation,ambulation after operation,the hospital stay,the resume of normal activities after operation and the occurrence of complications the time of using intravenous after operation,the times of using analgesic after operation were all better than those in group B(P

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of spiral stone dislodger combined with pneumatic lithotriptor under ureteroscopy for managing upper ureteral stones. Methods 106 patients with upper ureteral stones with spiral stone dislodger combined with pneumatic lithotriptor under ureteroscopy were treated. The transverse diameter of the stones was 4～12mm and the vertical length 6～15mm. Results 87.7% (93/106) stones were fragmented for one session of treatment. 8 cases were pushed upward then undergoing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL) after surgical operations. Operations in 5 cases had to be changed to open surgery,and ureteral perforations happened in 1 case. Conclusion Successful entrance of the uretersocop is a prerequisite for crushing the stone,appropriate fixation of the stone is the key to their crushing,spiral stone dislodger is an effective means of fixing ureteral stones.

Objective To assess the cause of iatrogentic urethral stricture,prevention methods.Methods A total of 21 cases of iatrogentic urethral stricture patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results 2 cases of corpus glandulare prostatae extraction on ospectinis,2 cases of urethrolithotomy, 12 cases of transurethral resection of the prostate foe the treatment of symptomatic BPH, 5 cases of exelcymosic UCL all gained urethral sounding and urethra sliver and electrotomy. Conclusion Iatrogentic urethral stricutre can be prevented by iatrogentic urethral catheterization operation technical,reconstruction the time size quality of urethral catheterization, using intravenous. By urethral sounding and intracavitary operation,iatrogentic urethral stricture all gained satisfaction.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the mechanisms of Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BYHWD) by observing its effects on expressions of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and the endothelial-specific receptor tyrosine kinase (Tie-2) mRNA in damaged region of rats' brain after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

METHODSOne hundred and sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups, 10 in the normal control group, 60 in the sham-operative group, 60 in the ICH model group, and 30 in the BYHWD-treated group. The ICH model was established by injecting collagenase type VII 0.5 U stereotaxically into right globus pallidus. Animals in the BYHWD-treated group were administered orally with BYHWD, while animals in the sham-operative group and the ICH model group were administered orally with equal volume distilled water, and those in the normal control group drank water freely. The positional variations of the expression of Ang-1 and Tie-2 in the sham-operative group and the model group were assayed by immunohistochemistry on dayl, 4, 7, 14, 21 and 28 after modeling, in the meantime, the dynamic changes of Ang-1 and Tie-2 mRNA expressions in all groups were assayed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

RESULTSNo significant expression of Ang-1 and Tie-2 in brain of rats in the normal or the sham-operative group was found during the experiment. In the model group, the Ang-1 and Tie-2 positive micrangio-segments appeared at the edge of clot on day 1 to day 4, they gradually penetrated to hematoma area from day 7; with Ang-1 and Tie-2 mRNA expressed from day 1, but very weak until day 4, showing no significant difference to that on day 1; thereafter, they increased gradually, and reached the peak on day 28 (P <0.05). While the two expressions in the BYHWD treated group reached the peak on day 21, and from day 7 to day 28, they were all significantly higher than those in ICH model group at the corresponding time points (P <0.01).

CONCLUSIONBYHWD can promote the up-regulation of Ang-1 and Tie-2mRNA expressions in brain of intracerebral hemorrhagic rats, which might accelerate the angiogenesis in the reconstruction of microvascular network in the damaged zone, and thus facilitating the repairing of damaged tissue.

Objective To study the relationship between coronary arteriographic and fluorescence fundus angiographic characteristics in type 2 diabetic patients with coronary heart disease.Methods The study was carried out by the analysis of the data from coronary arteriography and fluorescence fundus angiography in 203 type 2 diabetic patients with coronary heart disease in different groups divided according to age or total cholesterol level. Logisitic regression analysis was applied to explore various risk factors to angiographic characteristics.Results With advancing age,there were more involvement of 3 coronary vessels or the left main branch along with stageⅢretinopathy,but less single vessel diseases in the coronary arteries and less stageⅠretinopathy.The difference in coronary angiographic and fluorescence fundus angiographic characteristics between groups with different total cholesterol levels was not significant.Logistic regression analysis suggested that coronary artery diaease was related to age,sex and blood glucose and triglyceride levels while diabetic retinopathy was related to blood glucose level and age.Conclusion There is great difference in coronary arteriography and fluorescence fundus angiography among different age groups.Aging may aggravate the lesions both in the coronary arteries and fundal vessels in type 2 diabetic patients with coronary heart diseease.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the status of controllable risk factors of cardiovascular disease in Chinese pilots.

METHODSPilots in seven regions of China were selected with cluster sampling. The rates of hypertension, diabetes mellitus,smoking and abnormal body mass index (BMI) as well as levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol were obtained.

RESULTS(1) A total of 5012 pilots were selected and 4684 pilots whose data were effective were studied. (2) The prevalence rates of hypertension, high total cholesterol, triglyceride, low high density lipoprotein-cholesterol and diabetes mellitus were 8.07%, 7.47%, 14. 45%, 27.63% and 0.43%, respectively. The rate of smoking was 66.45%. The rat of increased BMI was 49.64%. (3) Significant difference existed on the rates of hypertension, total cholesterol, triglyceride, low high density lipoprotein-cholesterol, smoking and abnormal BMI among pilots from different regions (all P < 0.01). There was also a significant difference between the rates of hypertension, total cholesterol, triglyceride, smoking and abnormal BMI in different age groups (all P < 0.01). The rate of low high density lipoprotein-cholesterol was similar in different age groups (P > 0.05). (4) 88.96% of the participants had at least one controllable risk factor. 54.46% of the participants had at least two controllable risk factors. None of the participants had more than seven risk factors. There was a significant difference between the rates of pilots who have more than two controllable risk factors in different regions (P < 0.01). There was a significant difference between the rates of pilots who have more than two risk factors in different age groups (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONSThere was high prevalence of controllable cardiovascular risk factors in Chinese pilots. Active intervention targeting these cardiovascular disease risk factors needs to be considered to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease in Chinese pilots.
