BACKGROUND:Emerging evidence shows that rs6756667 SNP EPAS1-A alele is beneficial for, however, the GG genotype is detrimental for adaptation to high-altitude hypoxia in Tibetan populations.
OBJECTIVE:To compare the EPAS1 gene rs6756667 polymorphism between Tibetan elite endurance athletes and Tibetan non-physical education major students and analyze its relationship to aerobic exercise capacity.
METHODS:Forty Tibetan athletes in Ganzi Tibetan middle and long distance athletes sports teams (athlete group) and forty Tibetan non-physical education major students in Ganzi (student group) were included in this study. The EPAS1 gene rs6756667 polymorphic loci were determined using PCR high-resolution melting analysis. The genetic polymorphism data from this study were compared withthe data from previous studies. Increase values of bone mineral density in the pelvis, upper and lower limbs were determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:There were significant differences in the genotype frequencies of EPAS1 rs6756667 AA, AG and GG between student group(50%, 47.5%, 2.5%)and athlete group(72.5%, 27.5%, 0;P< 0.05). The genotype frequency of GG was significantly increased in student group compared with athlete group (P< 0.05). There were differences in the frequencies of A alele and G alele between both groups (95%CI:0.459-0.908,P=0.011).Bone mineral density inthe pelvis, upper and lower limbs and whole body was significantly higher in student group than athlete group (P< 0.05). These findings suggest that EPAS1 gene rs6756667 polymorphism is related to aerobic capacity of Tibetan elite endurance athletes. rs6756667 SNP EPAS1-A alele is beneficial for, however, the GG genotype is detrimental for adaptation to high-altitude hypoxia in Tibetan athletes.

MicroRNA(miRNA) is a class of non-coding RNA that plays an important role in gene expression and controlling. In recent years, the role of miRNA in the development of the disease has aroused great interest. Abnormal osteoclastogenesis and persistent inflammatory response induced by wear particles or osteoblast differentiation and maturation is the main cause of aseptic loosening in joint replacements. New researches shows that persistent inflammatory response, osteoclastogenesis and osteoblast differentiation are closely associated with miRNA, suggesting that there are certain relations between miRNA and aseptic loosening of prostheses. Additionally, the alteration of the expression levels of some miRNA may be curative for aseptic loosening. With the findings of the new miRNA targets, the important role of miRNA is further confirmed.

Objective To investigate the current situation of the prevention and contml of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD)in Hubei Province,SO as to provide a policy.making basis for controlling work of IDD. Methods Using the method of proportional population sampling(PPS),30 eounties were seiected in Hubei Province. In each selected county,1 primary school was chosen. In every primary school,40 pupil8 aged 8~10 years were selected to examine thyroid size, intelligent quotient(IQ),and salt iodine contents at their home.In the selected pupils,2 boys and 2 girls were chosen to determine their urinary iodine contents in each age grouD.Twenty pupils in the above school and 5 housewives ileal"to this school were tested in health education questionnaire. Results The median of salt iodine was 30.1 mg/kg,and the rate of comsuming qualified iodized salt was 96.2% (1154/1200).The rates ofchild goiter were 6.5%(78/1200)by palpation and 4.1%(49/1200)by B ultrasound. The median of urinary iodine Was 358.4μg/L and mean of the IQ was 105.3±14.4.The rate of qualified scores of both students and housewives Was 25.5%(153/600)、90.7%(136/150).Conclusions The current Bituation of iedine nutrition is good. The goal of eliminating IDD has been achieved in Hubei Province.

Hepatic encephalopathy is a common metabolic neuropsychiatric syndrome in the development of end-stage liver disease. Since the concept of intestinal-liver-brain axis was proposed, the relationship between the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy and the gut microbiota has been a hot research topic. In recent years, studies have confirmed that gut microbiota is involved in and affects various pathological processes of hepatic encephalopathy. This article combines the latest research progress at home and abroad to elaborate on the research status of regulating gut microbiota and thus interfering with the pathological process of hepatic encephalopathy, hoping to provide new ideas and methods for the intervention of hepatic encephalopathy based on the regulation of gut microbiota.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of purgation and detoxification therapy on gastrointestinal dysfunction of critically ill patients undergoing abdominal surgery.
METHODSTotally 56 inpatients with severe gastrointestinal dysfunction after abdominal surgery at ICU of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were assigned to the treatment group and the control group, 28 in each group. All patients received routine Western medical treatment. Patients in the treatment group additionally took Modified Huanglian Jiedu Decoction (MHJD) and received electroacupuncture (EA) for 7 days. The first exhaust time, defecation time, scores for gastrointestinal dysfunction, mechanical ventilation time, ICU hospitalization time, and 28-day fatality rate were observed. Furthermore, serum levels of diamine oxidase (DAO) and D-lactic acid were detected at day 1, 3, and 7 after treatment.
RESULTSThe first exhaust time and the first defecation time in the treatment group were ahead of schedule, when compared with those of the control group (P <0. 05). Scores for gastrointestinal dysfunction, mechanical ventilation time, serum levels of DAO obviously decreased in the treatment group (P <0. 05). There was no statistical difference in serum levels of D-lactic acid, ICU stay time, the incidence of pulmonary infection, and 28-day mortality between the two groups (P >0. 05). Results of Logistic analysis showed that scores for gastrointestinal dysfunction were related with the incidence of pulmonary infection (P <0. 05).
CONCLUSIONMHJD combined EA could promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function in critically ill patients after abdominal surgery via improving intestinal barrier function, which was benefit for shortening mechanical ventilation time.
