1.Treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures
Orthopedic Journal of China 2006;0(02):-
Thoracolumbar burst fractures account for more than half of all thoracolumbar fractures, which often result in neurologic deficit, kyphosis deformity and significant disability. The management of thoracolumbar burst fractures differ with the types.Nowadays, the accepted methods of treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures include conservative therapy, posterior reduction and instrumentation, anterior decompression and instrumentation, combined anterior-posterior approach and minimally invasive approach.Howerer, the optimal technique is not always evident. There is no precise classification system to determine which surgical procedure is the best. The following review summarizes the recent advances in treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures.Recent clinical evidence shows that there is no significant difference between conservative therapy and surgical treatment for thoracolumbar burst fractures without neurologic deficit, and that surgical treatment should be considered for unstable fractures with neurological injuries. Some other clinical evidence shows that short segment combined fractured vertebra plasty with various manners has gained popularity, because it can reconstruct anterior column and decrease the failure of internal fixation and the occurrence of long-term spinal kyphosis deformity. In accordance with the principles of biomechanics and taking into account the occurrence of degeneration of adjacent segment, surgeons gradually applied non-fusion technology in clinical practice, and yet its long-term results need to be confirmed by further studies.

Objective To stady the diagnosis and management of traumatic chylous ascites. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical dada of 11 cases of traumatic chylous ascites resulting from various causes.ResultsThere were 5 cases of open abdominal injury,2 cases of closed abdominal injury and 4 cases of operative injury.Nine cases were treated with operation.According to the location and extent of injury, patients were respectively managed by operation of direct repair or ligation. Two cases had non-surgical treatment. All of the11 patients were cured and had satisfactory result at 0.5~3 years of follow-up.ConclusionsFor traumatic chylous ascites,if the injurg occurrence on cisterna chili, the best treatmeat is primary repair;if injury occarrence on the small intestinal trunks or lumbar trunk, which can be treated with ligation;while blunt injury and cases found after operation are mainly treated conservatively.
6.Experimental Study of Preparation and Characteristics of Biomaterials Fabricating Esophageal Prosthesis
Chinese Medical Equipment Journal 2003;0(10):-
Objective To investigate the characteristics and cytocomptibility of porcine aorta fixed with genipin in vitro and to provide the proper biomaterials for fabrication of esophageal prosthesis. Methods The porcine aortas were treated by genipin for 7min to 7days, were then examined with naked-eye and light microscope. Subsequently, the fixation index determination and the biomechanics test were also performed. The cytotoxicity of the genipin-fixed materials was evaluated in vitro by MTT assay using a mouse -derived established cell line of L-929 fibroblasts as test cells. Results The experimental results indicated that the antigenicity of porcine aorta tissues could be diminished by genipin through getting rid of cell in the porcine aorta tissues and reducing the level of free amino groups in the porcine aorta tissues. The structural integrity of porcine aorta tissues can be preserved after treating with genipin. It was also found that the genipin-fixed porcine aorta tissues appeared more toughness and visco-elasticity. The RGR of genipin-fixed porcine aorta tissues was high which presumed a low cytotoxicity of this material. Conclusion The Genipin-fixed porcine aorta should be a promising material for fabricating esophageal prosthesis or fabricating scaffold of tissue-engineered esophagus.
7.A modified rabbit model of gouty knee arthritis
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2017;21(24):3881-3887
BACKGROUND:An ideal animal model is important for studying gouty arthritis. However, a lack of perfect animal model of gouty arthritis delays the progress in searching for a novel drug and treatment method. OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness of the modified rabbit model of gouty knee arthritis. METHODS:New Zealand white rabbits were selected and randomly divided into four groups. Except bIank control group received no intervention;the rabbit greater omentum was removed, which was wrapped with nothing (sham operation group), impIanted with 0.1 g/L monosodium urate crystal suspension (conventionaI group), or 100 mg/kg monosodium urate crystal (modified group) into the suprapatellar cyst of the rabbit right knee. The swelling degree, motor function, and inflammatory response of the knee joint were observed at 1, 2 and 3 days, 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks after modeling to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the modified model. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The movement function in the modified group was significantly decreased within

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of ethyl acetate fraction of Blumea balsamifera (BBE) residue on treating rats of adjuvant arthritis (AA) and its mechanism.
METHODThe rats were immunized with the Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA). After modeling, 28 days' treatment with BBE was performed. During the experimental process, rat mass, toe girth, arthritic index (AI), proliferation of immune organs and pathological section were measured. After treatment, blood samples were collected through fossa orbitalis vein for detection of serum SOD, MDA, GSH, NO, OH*, ALP, AST, ALT, NAG and SA content using colorimetric method and IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α content using ELISA method.
RESULTAdministration with BBE (high dose) could significantly ameliorate joint swelling and arthritis index, effectively inhibit synovial hyperplasia, down-regulate the levels of MDA, NO, OH*, ALP, AST, ALT, NAG, SA, IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and up-regulate the SOD and GSH levels in serum.
CONCLUSIONThe results suggested BBE possesses substantial anti-arthritis and antioxidant activities.
