1. Alendronate affects osteoprotegerin/receptor of activator of nuclear factor κB-ligand expression in human marrow stroma cells in vitro
Academic Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University 2009;21(4):230-233
Objective: To evaluate the effect of alendronate on osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor of activator of nuclear factor κB-ligand (RANKL) expression in human marrow stroma cells (hMSCs) in vitro. Methods: hMSCs were isolated from human marrow, cultured in vitro, and randomly divided into two groups: alendronate group, hMSCs culture fluid containing 1 × 10-7 mol/ L alendronate; control group, no special treatment but culturing hMSCs in DMEM. Two weeks after treatment, the expressions of OPG and RANKL were evaluated by RT-PCR and Western blot. Results: hMSCs became uniform spindle-shaped fibroblasts. As cells proliferated, they formed colonies and showed whirlpool arrangement. After one week's treatment, hMSCs in alendronate group had reduced processes and gradually showed disc shape, which did not happen in control group but kept fibroblast shape and just increased in density. In RT-PCR, the ratio of OPG/RANKL in alendronate group and control group was 8.77±1.16 and 4.58±1.27, respectively. In Western blot, the ratio of OPG/RANKL in alendronate group and control group was 2.58±0.47 and 1.52±0.32, respectively. The ratio of OPG/RANKL was higher in alendronate group than in control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: Alendronate enhances OPG expression and inhibits RANKL expression of hMSCs in vitro.

Chinese Health Economics 2013;(12):21-23
Objective: To investigate health equity status of the elderly with different socioeconomic status(SES)and provide basis for health promotion. Methods:The data of 2011-2012 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey was used to analyze health equity of the elderly with different SES. Results: There is an inverse socioeconomic gradient in self-evaluation of ill health and the prevalence of activity of daily living (ADL). The lower economic level is, the higher self-evaluation of ill health and the damage rate of ADL are, and the higher non-outpatient rate and non-hospitalization rate are; the urban elderly have better health and use more health services and the elderly in eastern region have better health and use more health services than those in eastern region. Conclusion: There is the health inequity for the elderly with different SES. In order to implement the health care insurance and medical assistance system of the elderly, it needs to allocate health resources to rural and western areas, narrow the gap between urban and rural areas and improve the health level of the elderly.
6.THE INHIBITORY EFFECTS OF NIMODIPINE IN ISOLATED GUINEA PIG LEFT ATRIUM AND THIER MECHANISM OF ACTIONS

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(04):-
Fifteen min after adding nimodipine 50 ?mol/L, the contractility of the left atrial muscle decreased from 100 % of control to 55.5 +4.2 o/o and its inhibitory effect was equal to the effect of verapamil (25 ?mol/L ) . Nim at the same concentration inhibited strongly the positive staircase phenomenon but could not reverse it into the negative staircase phenomenon as verapamil 25 ?mol/L did. The same concentration of Nim suppressed significantly the post rest contraction. On the contrary, the post rest contraction was not affected by verapamil at 25 ?mol/L. In addition, Nim 50 ?mol/L reversed or prevented significantly the ouabain-induced arrhythmias in isolated left atria. These results suggest that the negative ino-trbpism of Nim may be related not only to the inhibition of Ca2 + influx to the cells and also to the decrease of the intercellular Ca2+ release and that Nim might present the possibility in treating arrhythmias or other heart disease
7. Alkaloids from roots of Cocculus orbiculatus var. mollis
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 2013;44(17):2350-2353
Objective: To study the alkaloid compounds in the roots of Cocculus orbiculatus var. mollis. Methods: The compounds were isolated by silica gel chromatography, and their structures were established by spectroscopic methods. Results: A novel cocsolines-type bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid named orbiculatinine (1), along with three known compounds (+) 1, 2- dehydroapateline (2), trilobine (3), and isotrilobine (4), were isolated. Conclusion: Compound 1 is a new compound named orbiculatinine. Compounds 2-4 are isolated from this plant for the first time.

Tibetan medicineLiu-Wei Mu-Xiang(LWMX) pill, a traditional compound medicine, has special therapeutic effects in the treatment of gastrointestinal anabrosis, especially chronic gastric ulcer. It has been widely applied in the clinics in Tibetan region. Nevertheless, the current standards for quality control are insufficient and incomplete, which makes it difficult to ensure its quality. This review focused on two closely related perspectives, which were the effective material basis and quality control, to summarize and review the recent advancement in relevant studies. This review also pointed out that the burning questions for Tibetan medicine standards were the origin confusion and“different medicines with the same name”. It offered meaningful suggestions for the consideration to improve its quality standards.
