Objective To investigate the pathogens of acute respiratory infection of children. Methods A total of 159 children with acute respiratory infection who were hospitalized in our department from August 2005 to January 2006 were involved in this study. The serum IgM antibody of 18 pathogens were detected by indirect immunofluorescence test. The 18 pathogens included respiratory syncytial virus(RSV),adenovirus(ADV),influenza A(H1N1,H3N2)and B viruses, parainfluenza viruses(PIV) type 1,2,3 and 4,coxsackie virus B1(CBV1),coxsackie virus A7(CAV7),echovirus(ECHO7),haemophilus influenzae(HI),klebsiella pneumoniae(KP),bordetella pertussis(BP),bordetella parapertussis(BPP) and legionella pneumophila serotype 1 and 12.Results The evidence of specific IgM was obtained in 103 of 159 patients(64.78%).Influenza A was found in 66 cases(64.08%),influenza B in 49 cases(47.57%),enterovirus in 26 cases(25.24%),RSV in 18 cases(17.48%),PIV in 11 cases(10.68%),and co-infection in 66 cases(64.08%),1/ 3 of them were co-infected with influenza A and B.Conclusions Viruses are the most common agents of acute respiratory infection.Influenza virus is predominant among them.

Objective To investigate the effects of glycyrrhizin on gene expression of transforming growth factor(TGF)-?signaling pathway of hepatic stellate cell(HSC)in mice by gene microarray tech- nique. Methods The HSCs were isolated from mice and cultured in vitro. Then the mice were divided into control group,TGF-?_1 group(5 ng/ml) or TGF-?_1(5 ng/ml)combined with glycyrrhizin(100?mol/L) group. The cells were collected after 10 hours to extract RNA.A cDNA microarray(GEArray~(TM) Q) targeting TGF-?/BMP signal transduction was used to screen the genes which showed significant changes in expression of TGF-?pathway of HSC by glycyrrhizin. Results The microarray analysis showed that 16 genes(16.7%),such as Smad2,Smad3,Smad7,CoL3A1,CoL1A2,and PAI-1,were upregulated by TGF-?_1 and then down-regulated by glycyrrhizin.Five genes(5.2%)(including BMP7,IGFbp3 and etc.)downregulated by TGF-?_1,were then up-regulated by glycyrrhizin.Finally,2 genes upregulated by TGF-?_1 were then up-regulated predominantly by glycyrrhizin in HSC(T?R2,betaglycan).Changes in some genes, such as Smad2 Smad3,Smad7,were further confirmed to be coincided with cDNA microarray by semi-quantitative RT-PCR.Conclusions The anti-fibrosis mechanisms of glycyrrhizin may be through to interference of TGF-?signaling pathway, decrease the synthesis and increase the degradation of collagen.

Background and Objective Keshan disease is clinically characterized as a dilated eardiomyopathy. We analyze the prevalence trend during last decade of hypertension and Keshan-disease in Yangzhuang village which was a Keshan-disease epidemic area.Method The survey including medical history, blood pressure and ECG were carried out every two years during the follow up 13 years. Results During follow up period, the total detection rate(hypertension:13.4 % vs Keshan-disease:10.7 %,?~2=8.555,P=0.002)and the accumulative rate of hypertension were higher than those of Keshan-disease,which was on the contrary to that before 1993,when increasing rate of Keshan-disease was higher than hypertension.Furthermore, the accumulative increasing rate of hypertension was 240.0%,which was higher than the national average level during corresponding period with no significant differences between female and male. Conclusion The detection rate of hypertension in Keshan disease epidemic area was higher than the average rate nation-wide.Whether the hypertension prevalence was re- lated to Keshan-disease needs further investigation.

Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
Mycelial morphology are exploited a great influnence to the metabolites of fungi. The effect of the mycelial morphology on producing lycopene by Blakeslea tripora was investigated. The results indicated that pellets has little role on fermentation when adding kerosene and triton-x100, However, The content of lycopene in the medium reached to 98.6mg/L by adding Ig/L span-20, forming dispersed mycelia, which is 3 times of the control experiments.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of ~(99)Tc~m-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) SPECT scintigraphy combined Iocalizable CT in the localization of ectopic parathyroid glands in hyperparathyroidism. Methods Retrospective data of surgery, pathology and imaging were collected from 28 patients with hyperfunctioning ectopic parathyroid glands. All cases underwent CT studies.Twenty-five patients had ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI planar imaging first:SPECT scintigraphy combined localizable CT was performed for the patients with abnormal radionuclide foci immediately. The fusion images obtained after reconstruction showed the exact location of the ectopic foci.Operative histopathologic results were regarded as "gold standards".Presuming 4 parathyroid glands as normal findings, findings confirmed by operation and pathology were regarded as positive, otherwise negative. The results of CT and radionuclide imaging were compared by X~2-test of four-foId table. Results Twenty-eight ectopic parathyroid glands were found in 28 patients, all pathologically confirmed as adenomss.CT found 22 foci,of which 17 were true positive,5 false positive,11 false negative, and 79 true negative.~(99)Tc~m-MIBI SPECT scintigraphy combined localizable CT found 23 foci,no false positive,2 false negative, and 75 true negative. The results showed that the sensitivities were 61% (17/28),92%(23/25),specificities 94%(79/84),100%(75/75),accuracies 86%(96/112),98% (98/100),positive predictive values 77%(17/22),100%(23/23),and negative predictive values 88% (79190),97%(75/77),respectively,for CT and radionuclide imaging.~(99)Tc~m-MIBI SPECT scintigraphy combined localizable CT was therefore significantly higher than CT in sensitivity(X~2=6.98,P<0.01),specificity (X~2=4.61,P<0.05),accuracy (X~2=10.30,P<0.01),positive predictive value(X~2=5.88,P<0.05) and negative predictive value (X~2=5.36,P<0.05).Conclusion ~(99)Tc~m-MIBI SPECT scintigraphy combined localizable CT is superior to CT alone in the localization of ectopic parathyroid glands in hyperparathyroidism, but false negative can be found in some patients.
