AIM: To approach the antiobesity action and mechanisms of the daidzein derivative: LRXH609(LRX).METHODS: The body weight,Lee′s index, total weight of celiac fat tissue, food intake, serum glucose and lipids in obese rats induced by a high-fat diet were measured and the antiobesity action was tested after LRX was administered for 30 days.3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes were induced by in vitro culture, the effects of LRX on cell proliferation, lipogenesis, lipolysis were observed.RESULTS: The body weight,Lee′s index, fat tissue weight in obese rats were significantly decreased by LRX,and the concentrations of TC,FFA in serum were decreased, the proliferation of 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes was inhibited, the activities of hormone sensitive lipase in 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes were significantly elevated, the glycerine release from adipocytes was promoted and the concentrations of TG in adipocytes were decreased.CONCLUSION: LRX plays a role in antiobesity action and regulating blood lipid and the mechanism might be related to inhibiting proliferation and differentiation of pre-adipocytes,stimulating TG decomposition by activating hormone-sensitive lipase and decreasing the TG storage in adipocyte.

Objective To introduce and evaluate a new surgical technique about concealed penis. Methods The incision was chosen on the outer lamina of the bilateral sides of penis. The excision of fibrous cord of penis dartos and suprapubic fat pad and skin fixation on the penis root were done to the patients. For the severe patients, the superficial layer of the suspensory ligament of penis must be excised.Thirty-nine cases were treated with this new technique,22 cases with Devine technique, and 23 cases with modified Shiraki technique and clinical comparative research was carried out. Results Penis of 39 cases were found 2 to 3 centimeters pro-pubic projection.Within 3 to 36 months of follow-up,no obvious reduction of penis was found and the erection function was normal.By new evaluat standard of surgical efficacy, the clinical efficacy of new technique,Devine′s and modified Shiraki′s technique were 92.31%(36/39 cases),77.27%(17/22 cases) and 78.26%(18/23 cases),respectively and the efficacy rate in new technigue was significcmthy higher than that of Devines and modified Shirak′s groups(Pa

Objective To observe the clinical effects of hyaluronidase iontophoresis in the treatment of in- fants with congenital muscular torticollis(CMT).Methods Fifty infants with congenital muscular torticollis were divided randomly into a treatment group and a control group.Manual stretching was performed with both groups, while hyaluronidase iontophoresis was also administered to those in the treatment group. The range of side-flexion and rota- tion of the neck was examined at the beginning of and after 1 and 2 months of treatment. At the end of the treatment, the overall outcome was assessed according to a scoring system. Results There was no significant difference be- tween the two groups at admission.Compared with the control group, the range of side-flexion and rotation of the neck, and the overall treatment outcome were all significantly better in the treatment group after treatment.Conclu- sion Hyaluronidase iontophoresis can effectively improve function in infants with CMT and alleviate their symptoms.

ZHU Lian is the founder of international communication of acupuncture-moxibustion after establishment of New China. This article discussed ZHU Lian's great deal of pioneering work and historic contributions from the aspects of acupuncture-moxibustion treatments for foreign people, international training and communication, and the international influence of Xin Zhenjiu Xue. Our research showed that ZHU Lian's early work didn't only enlarge acupuncture's worldwide influence and spreading pace, especially in Soviet Union, India and Korea, but also accumulated precious experiences for each subject of Chinese medicine attending into international medical care and academic communication in the future.

Objective To explore the dynamic spiral CT findings of adrenal ganglioneuromas and to evaluate its clinical value. Methods All 7 cases patients with adrenal ganglioneuromas confirmed by surgical pathology underwent spiral CT plain scanning and two phases dynamic enhancement scanning before operation. The CT images were reviewed and analysed retrospectively in comparison with surgical and pathological results. Results Six of 7 lesions were located in the right adrenal gland,1 in the left. The diameter of the tumors was 3.7—7.5cm,with a mean diameter of 4.6cm.The CT value of the plain scans, AP phases and PVP phases was 16.2—31.7 HU(with a mean value of 24.3 HU),20.9—36.6 HU(with a mean value of 30.2 HU),and 27.4—45.5 HU(with a mean value of 36.0 HU),respectively. The masses were well defined and showed a tendency of wedging into the space between the adjacent organs and structures and encasing the large vessels such as IV,but didn't compress or occlude them. Conclusion The dynamic SCT features of adrenal ganglioneuromas were obvious, dynamic SCT scans could suggest the diagnose.

AML-1/ETO fusion gene is the frequent genetic lesion described in FBA M(2) type acute myeloid leukemia (AML-M(2)) and is associated with a favourable prognosis. In spite of its potential clinical relevance, this subtype leukemia usually would be undetected with conventional cytology procedures, and easily confused with acute promyelocyte leukemia (APL) in morphology. In order to investigate the immunophenotypic characteristics of bone marrow cells in AML-M(2) patients with AML-ETO gene rearrangement classified by FAB, immunophenotype of bone marrow cells in 17 AML-M(2) patients with AML-1/ETO(+) confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization was analyzed by using flow cytometry as compared with immunophenotype in 34 APL patients with AML-1/ETO(-). The results showed that population of blast cells (15.89% - 68.53%) and population of more heterogeneous myeloid cells were detected with right-angle scatter in 17 patients with AML-1/ETO(+), i.e. AML-M(2) by FAB classification. The blast cells expressed stem cell associated antigens CD34, HLA-DR and myeloid antigens CD33, CD13, MPO. The mean fluorescent intensity of CD33 in M(2)/ETO(+) patients was significantly lower than that in APL patients (121 +/- 92 vs 845 +/- 523, P<0.001), meanwhile positive expression rates of HLA-DR, CD19 and CD34(+)CD56(+) in M(2)/ETO(+) patients were significantly higher than that in APL patients (100%, 88.24%, 100% vs 27.27%, 8.82%, 0%, P<0.001), expression rate of CD9 in M(2)/ETO(+) patients was significantly lower than that in APL patients (P<0.001). In patients with M(2)/ETO(+) (AML-M(2)), the pattern of CD15/CD11b expression was seen as granulocytic differentiation with immature events showing CD15(+)CD11b(-) and more mature CD15(+)CD11b(+) populations, the expression of mature granulocytes CD10 was negative and similar to APL in expression figure. The granulocytes expressed CD56 in 17 patients with M(2)/ETO(+) (17/17, 100%) and its expression rate was significantly higher than that in patients with M(3) (6/34, 17.56%). It is concluded that AML-M(2) with AML-1/ETO gene rearrangement was confirmed to express an exclusive immunophenotype that shows highly predictive value for the cytogenetic pattern, and the multiparametric flow cytometry with FISH provides a technical approach to easily distinguish leukemia subtype M(2)/ETO(+) from APL.
