Objective This paper addresses the standardization of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) nomenclature translation and put forward suggestions through a comparative study on English translations of TCM terms for liver and gallbladder diseases.Method With the principle of standardization, the principle of correspondence, the principle of readability and the principle of nationalism as the possible criteria, translations of 8 TCM terms available in 7 publications at home and abroad are compared and analyzed.Results 5 of the 8 terms have at least two English versions. The principle of standardization and the principle of readability are violated more frequently than the other two.Conclusion The standardization of TCM nomenclature is progressing steadily.However, efforts are still necessary for translators to improve English language proficiency. The principle of standardization and the principle of readability need to be further enhanced.

Standardization of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)term translation is the focus of TCM translation studies. Based on the Skopos theory and our interviews to 6 internationals, this paper aims to explore the purposes and principles of TCM term translation from the perspective of the client, the translator and the addressee. Finally, four fundamental principles of TCM term translation are summarized in order to provide references for the standardization of TCM term translation.

Objective To formulate the index framework of medium developed health level in accordance with Zhejiang Provinces development goal of primarily realizing modernization by 2020. Methods Such research methods as information retrieval, cluster analysis, and Delphi expert consultation were used to select index items of medium developed health level. Results 14 indexes were selected, falling respectively into 4 major categories, viz. health level of the residents, allocation of health resources, provision of and access to health services, and environment and form of the residents health and life. Conclusion The index framework is capable of reflecting in a comprehensive way the overall health level of a certain region.

Objective To investigate the effect of transforming growth factor-?1 (TGF-?1) on the activity of connective tissue growth factor(CTGF) gene promoter in human renal proximal tubular epithelial cell line HK-2. Methods The regulation fragment of 5' flanking region of human CTGF gene was linked to pGL3-Basic vector. The recombinant plasmid pCTGF-luc was transient transfected to HK-2 cells. The activity of CTGF promoter after treatment of TGF-?1 and mitogen-activated prontein kinases (MAPK) pathway inhibitors was assayed by means of luciferase reporter gene assay system. Objective To learn and evaluate the present prescriptions from outpatient departments of 21 public hospitals in Songjiang district,and to promote rational drug use.Methods A total of 75,600 outpatient prescriptions from 21 public hospitals in Songjing district were collected monthly from January 2008 to October 2010 and analyzed statistically using indexes for prescription evaluation.Results of the 75,600 prescriptions,the types of drugs in each prescription averaged 2.35,the ratio of antibiotics use and injection agents use were 35.77％ and 17.40％,respectively.The percentage of essential drugs without added profit accounted for 41.91％ of the total drug use,and the average drug cost per prescription was RMB 85.99.Comparison of indexes for prescription evaluation showed that the ratio of antibiotics use and injection agents use as well as the average cost per prescription in secondary hospitals were significantly higher that those in community health centers (P＜0.01),while the percentage of essential drugs without added profit and the average number of drugs in each prescription were statistically smaller than those in community health centers (P＜0.01).Conclusion Drug use in outpatient departments of 21 public hospitals was rational in general,especially noteworthy is the significant improvement made at community health centers in recent three years.
