Objective To analyze the CT findings of endobronchial spread in lung adenocarcinoma. Methods The CT findings of 15 lung adenocarcinomas or bronchioloalveolar carcinomas with endobronchial spread were reviewed, the distribution and the progression of the spread were evaluated. Results All of the primary tumors were consolidation form. The spread lesions distributed in one side of the lung or both sides along the bronchus. The pleural surface was spared. The CT findings of the spread included centrilobular nodules(n=5),tree-in-bud(n=7),acinar nodules(n=2),ground-glass opacities(n=10)and air- space consolidations(n=13)in the first CT examination.5 cases of the spread lesions only presented centrilobular nodules(single form)and 10 cases presented several appearances(complex form). All of the cases were diagnosed as tuberculosis or pneumonia, and antituberculotic or antibiotic therapy was taken with no effect. The follow-up CT scans showed progression in all cases, and the spread lesions with single form became multiple consolidations. The spread lesions with complex form deteriorated faster than the single one. Conclusion Although the CT findings of the endobronchial spread of the lung adenocarcinoma is specific, the clinical history and laboratory examination also are important for the differential diagnosis with tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

OBJECTIVETo determine the frequencies and significance of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and T-helper 17 (Th17) cells in peripheral blood of young children with recurrent wheezing.
METHODSThirty young children with an acute exacerbation of recurrent wheezing were randomly enrolled. Twenty age-matched children with bronchopneumonia (pneumonia group) and 23 age-matched preoperative children with non-infectious or non-neoplastic diseases (hernia or renal calculus) (control group) were selected. The frequencies of MDSCs and Th17 cells in the peripheral blood were measured using flow cytometry and their correlation was determined by the Spearman's correlation coefficient.
RESULTSThe percentage of MDSCs in nucleated cells was significantly higher in the wheezing group than in the pneumonia and control groups (P<0.05), and it was significantly higher in the pneumonia group than in the control group (P<0.05). The percentage of Th17 cells in mononuclear cells was significantly higher in the wheezing group than in the pneumonia and control groups (P<0.05), but it showed no significant difference between the pneumonia and control groups (P>0.05). The frequency of MDSCs was positively correlated with the frequency of Th17 cells in the wheezing group (r=0.645, P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSMDSCs and Th17 cells may contribute to the pathogenesis of recurrent wheezing in young children.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2006;31(2):141-144
OBJECTIVETo study the effect of ursolic acid (UA), apentacyclic triterpene acid, on MCF-7 cell apoptosis, and probable mechanism involved by detecting the expressions of caspase-3 and poly ADP-ribose polymerase(PARP) at protein level.
METHODMCF-7 cells were cultured with different concentrations of UA. Growth inhibition of UA on MCF-7 cells was evaluated by MTT assay. Cell cycle and sub-G1 peak were performed by FCM. Morphologic changes of UA-treated cells were observed by light microscope. Apoptotic cells with condensed or fragmented nuclei were visualized by Ho 33258 staining by a fluorescence microscope (EX: U. V.). The protein expression of caspase-3 and PARP was analyzed by immunofluorescence cell staining (SABC-Cy3).
RESULT24 hours after UA treatment, inhibition of MCF-7 cell growth was concentration-dependent. The IC50 value for UA was (22.6 +/- 3.0) micromo x L(-1). Cell cycle anaysis by FCM showed that 50 micromol x L(-1) of UA arrested MCF-7 cell cycle at G0 - G1 phase. Morphological changes of MCF-7 Cells exhibited many of the hallmark features of apoptosis, including chromatin clumps and aggregation and DNA fragmentation. UA increased caspase-3 protein expression.
CONCLUSIONThe results suggest that UA evokes MCF-7 cell apoptosis is correlation with the up-regulation of caspase-3. Our study indicated that UA might be a potential Chinese medical component for breast neoplasm.

OBJECTIVE To study the isolation and resistance tendency of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii to antimicrobial agents from 1998 to 2004 to provide valuable data for infection prevention and therapy. METHODS We reviewed the isolation rates, distribution in clinical specimens and wards, and the resistance rates of(A.calcoaceticus-baumannii)to 14 kinds of antimicrobial agents from 1998 to 2004. RESULTS There was an increasing tendency of isolation rates of A.calcoaceticus-baumannii every year, which was 0.18% in 1998 but 1.48% in 2004.In the seven years, there was the highest isolation rate of 70.58% in specimens from respiratory tract, the next was from the urine(9.42%),and blood(4.63%).Concerning the wards distribution,ICU had the highest rate of 47.28%.In 1998,A.calcoaceticus-baumannii had resistance rates more than 50% only to one kind of antimicrobial agents(aztreonam),but in 2004,it had increased to thirteen kinds(except cefoperazone/sulbactam).About the fourteen kinds of antimicrobial agents we inspected, that were increased in their resistance rate. The highest increasing of resistance rate was ceftazidime from 11.1% in 1998 to 88.9% in 2004,the imipenem was second for 0.0% to 64.8%,and the third was sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim form 0.0% to 64.0%,while there still was an increasing resistance tendency to them. CONCLUSIONS The clinical isolation rate of A.calcoaceticus-baumannii is increasing, and it has higher resistance rates to many antimicrobial agents as well as an increasing resistance tendency to relatively susceptive antimicrobial agents every year.So physicians should prescribe on the basis of antimicrobial agents susceptibility tests in vitro.

Objective To observe effect of arginine on wound healing of diabetic rats.Meth- ods Forty male Lewis rats were equally and randomly divided into diabetic group and normal control group. The diabetic group were rendered with diabetic by using intraperitoneal(IP)streptozotocin seven days prior to surgery and underwent a dorsal skin incision with implantation of polyvinyl-alcohol sponges. Either of two groups were subdivided into arginine treatment group and saline treatment group,10 rats in each group,of which the arginine treatment group received arginine at 1 g/kg per day by IP injection, while the saline treatment group received saline injection only.Animals were sacrificed 10 days post wound to observe antibreakage tension, hydroxyproline content and mRNA expression of procollagenⅠandⅢ.Results Diabetic wounds had greatly decreased breaking strengths compared with controls. Arginine significantly enhanced wound breaking strengths, increased wound hydroxyproline levels and ele- vated mRNA for procollagenⅠandⅢin both diabetic and control animals as compared to their saline-trea- ted counterparts. Conclusion Arginine can effectively promote healing of diabetic wounds in rats.
