Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
To understand the antagomism of Clostridium butyricm and Bifidobacterium infants to v. cholera. Either Clostridium butyricum LCL166 or Bifidobacterium infants LCL172 or both of them co-cultured with V. cholera of, 0139, counting the number of V. cholera in constant intervals and performing statistics analysis. The inhibition results are probably same when combination of LCL166 and LCL172 were compared with LCL166 alone. The antagonism to V. cholera results mainly from Clostridium butyricum LCL166 which has the inhibition effect to V.cholera.

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of percutaneous intracystic steroid injection using two needles in the treatment of solitary bone cysts in children. Methods A total of 28 children with solitary bone cyst underwent steroid injection from January 1996 to January 2004. Under fluoroscopy, two fine needles (either bone marrow biopsy needle or lumbar puncture needle) pierced the bone cyst by way of the top and the bottom of the cyst, respectively. The intracystic fluid was drawn off, the cyst cavity irrigated and the steroid injected into. Results Follow-up checkups for 10~62 months (mean, 28 months) in 27 children found no complications. According to the Chigira classification on the new bone formation, 20 cases were classified as grade Ⅳ, 5 case grade Ⅲ, 1 case grade Ⅱ and 1 case grade Ⅰ, the cure rate being 92 6% (25/27). The time for bone cysts to grow together again in the 25 children was 3~10 months (mean, 4 5 months). Conclusions Percutaneous intracystic steroid injection using two needles for solitary bone cysts in children is simple, safe and effective.

Objective To observe the effects of berberine on ICAM-1, VCAM-1 expression and inflammatory cells exudation in mice with viral pneumonia caused by influenza virus, and explore its anti-injury effect. Methods Totally 108 BALB/c mice were randomly divided into control group, model group, and berberine group. 25 μL 50 LD50 influenza virus, mouse lung-adapted strain, was intranasally inoculated to model group and berberine group. 1 h after infection, control and model group were intragastrically given 25 μL distilled water, berberine group was treated by intraperitoneal injection with berberine at a dose of 0.005 g/(kg·d) for 5 days, twice per day. On day 2, 4 and 6 after infection, immunocytochemical method was used to detect ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression, and sorting cell count of leukocytes in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were counted. Results The expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 in model group increased obviously on day 2, 4, 6, and which in berberine group decreased compared with model group (P<0.01). WBC, mononuclear cell, eosinophile cell and neutrophil cell number in model group increased significantly. WBC and neutrophil cell number decreased in berberine group on day 6 (P<0.01), and the mononuclear cell number decreased on day 4 (P<0.01). Conclusion Berberine inhibited the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1, and decreased the inflammatory cells exudation in lung of mice with viral pneumonia caused by influenza virus. Berberine has protective effect on inflammatory injury of lung tissue in mice with viral pneumonia caused by influenza virus.

Objective To investigate the correlation of polymorphism of 8473 (T/C,rs5275) in the 3′-untranslated region of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene with bladder cancer. Methods A case-control study on the relation between COX-2 polymorphism and bladder cancer was performed in this study. The Taqman SNP genotyping assay was used to study the COX-2 rs5275 polymorphism. Results The differences in allele or genotype distributions of COX-2 rs5275 between cases and controls (all P < 0.05) were significant. A significantly reduced risk was revealed in bladder cancer patients carrying the TC genotype (adjusted OR =0.178;95%CI:0.119 ~0.264),CC genotype (adjusted OR = 0.087; 95%CI:0.058 ~ 0.129) or (TC/CC) genotype (adjusted OR =0.122;95%CI:0.082~0.181) compared to the control group. Significant difference in genotype distribution of the COX-2 rs5275 site was found associated with sex and smoking (adjusted OR:2.125,0.476;95%CI:1.500 ~3.010,0.325 ~ 0.696);No corelation was found between genetype TT or TC/CC and the pathological features of bladder cancer (P>0.05). Conlusion The separate effect of rs5275 polymorphism of COX-2 is associated with the susceptibility of bladder cancer, the TC/CC genotypes may be a protective factor.
