Chinese Journal of Cancer 2001;20(2):171-174
Objective: The current study was designed to evaluate the treatment results of nasopharyngeal carcinoma by conformal radiotherapy. Methods: From September 1997 to February 2000, a total of 41 cases of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated by conformal radiotherapy. Among them, 27 cases were treated by late-course hypofraction conformal radiotherapy with the dose of 20- 24 Gy at 80% isodose, 4- 7 Gy per time, following routine radiotherapy of 39 Gy/30f/3weeks. Fourteen cases received total-course conformal radiotherapy with the dose of 59.8 Gy/46f/4.6weeks at 90% isodose. Results: The reference isodose curves conform to the target in three dimensions in conformal radiotherapy. The acute radiation mucositis, cranial nerve paralysis and trismus incidence were similar in two groups, however, in the hypofractionation group 22% developed necrosis of nasopharyngeal mucosa, 3.7% developed reduced optic nerve lesion, whereas none of the hyperfractionation group had these complications. The tumor response rate were both 93% for two groups. Conclusion: Hyperfraction conformal radiotherapy is effective in the treatment of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma and has relatively lower incidence of radiation complication.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effective method of preventing cubitus varus deformity in nonoperative treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture in children.
METHODSFrom May 1992 to December 2013,319 patients with hemeral supracondylar fracture in children were treated with manual reduction and external plaster fixation in extension position. There were 253 males and 66 females, aged from 15 months to 13 years old with an average of 6.7 years. Among the patients with humeral supracondylar fracture, extension type was in 284 cases and inflexion type was in 35 cases; 167 cases on the left and 152 cases on the right. Injury to treatment time was 1 hour to 7 days with a mean of 1.8 days. No included nerve injury and operative case in the patients.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 3 months to 14 years with an average of 37.3 months. All fractures obtained bone healing and healed time was 6 to 8 weeks with an average of 6.9 weeks. No complications of serious cubitus varus deformity, vascular nerve injury or volkmann contracture were found. In 183 cases, the carrying angle was consistent with itself contralateral, ranged from 5° to 15°; in 105 cases, the carrying angle of uninjuryed side was decreased. During the reset, the carrying angle of 26 patients with ulnar deviation angle was for -5° to 0°; and 5 patients with radial deviation angle was for 15° to 18°, basically does not affect the appearance. The activities of all elbow joint were normal.
CONCLUSIONExternal plaster fixation in extension position has some value to preventing cubitus varus deformity in nonoperative treatment of humeral supracondylar fracture in children and hope that more scholars to do further study.

AIM: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of management in younger patients with primary chronic angle-closure glaucoma (PCACG).METHODS: Thirty-eight patients (50 eyes) aged 40 or younger with confirmed diagnosis of PCACG in advanced or late stage who received surgical treatment in Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center from January 2000 to December 2005were retrospectively investigated. All patients underwent trabeculectomy. The mean follow-up was 23.6±7.5 months.Full ophthalmic examinations were performed. The clinical outcomes including clinical presentations, surgical results and complications were evaluated.RESULTS: The mean age of patients was 33.5±6.1 years old. There was a female preponderance (60.5%). The mean axial length was 22.4±3.5mm with 18.0% short axis of eyeball and 14% nanophthalmos. There was 60.0% fiat anterior chamber depth (<1.9mm). Ultrasonic Biomicroscopy identified that plateau iris was the most common underlying etiology (80.6%). There was a statistically significant difference in intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction postoperativelyvs preoperatively (P<0.001). Four eyes failed to control IOP and received second filtration surgery. The main postoperative complications included shallow anterior chamber (20.0%) and malignant glaucoma (12.0%).CONCLUSION: The younger PCACG patients in advanced or late stage can be effectively managed by trabeculectomy. They have more frequency of postoperative sustained shallow anterior chamber and malignant glaucoma. Careful ophthalmic examinations, delicate surgical procedures and well-managed technique of complications were suggested on younger PCACG patients.

Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2021;19(4):278-283
According to Chinese medicine, the atlantoaxial joint is a composite joint composed of tendons and bones, and the stability of the joint depends on the 'tendon-bone balance' involving tendons, ligaments, atlas and axis. Multiple causes of 'tendon off-position, joint subluxation' will lead to joint 'tendon-bone imbalance', which will evolve into atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS), endangering human health. Chinese therapeutic massage (tuina) is a very effective treatment for AAS in adults, but conventional manipulations are prone to ineffectiveness or accidents due to neglect of the causal relationship of the 'tendon-bone imbalance' and inappropriate manipulations. Compared with conventional manipulations, the rational choice of modified manipulations under the guidance of 'tendon-bone balance' theory is more effective and less risky, and more worthy of clinical promotion. From the 'tendon-bone balance' theory, we considered the shortcomings of conventional manipulations, and introduced several modified manipulations that have their own strengths in 'tendon smoothing' and 'bone setting', in order to provide new ideas for treatment of AAS in adults.

OBJECTIVE: To construct a bi-cistronic co-expression plasmid for mouse interleukin-12 and to observe its expression in vitro or in vivo.METHODS: The full-length cDNA encoding p35 and p40 was cloned into eukaryotic cells expression vector pcDNA 3.1 respectively. Subsequently, the p35 expression unit was inserted into pcDNA 3.1/p40 to produce the bi-cistronic co-expression plasmid in which the p35 and p40 genes were controlled by their own CMV.The plasmid was expressed in vitro and in vivo. RESULTS: The mIL-12 in the supernatant was detected by ELISA after the pCmIL-12 was transfected into COS-7 cells. The activity of NK cells could be augmented by the supernatant in vitro and also by by intradermal delivery of pCmIL-12 in vivo. CONCLUSION: The plasmid constructed by us can express biologically active mIL-12 in vitro and in vivo.
