OBJECTIVETo observe differences of therapeutic effects among acupuncture bloodletting, penicillin and acupuncture bloodletting combined with penicillin for children acute tonsillitis and providea better treatment method in cli nic.
METHODSSeventy-five mild cases were selected into section of mild symptoms while seventy-five severe cases were selected into section of severe symptoms. Cases in the two sections then were divided into, an acupuncture bloodletting group, a penicillin group and a comprehensive group by random digital table method separately, 25 cases in each one. Qu-chi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Dazhui (GV 14), Shaoshang (LU 11) and Erjian (EX 11) were selected in the acupuncture bloodletting group, intravenous injection of penicillin sodium was applied in the penicillin group and acupuncture bloodletting combined with penicillin was applied in the comprehensive group. Efficacy assessment was conducted after 3 days in the section of mild symptoms and after 5 days in the section of severe symptoms.
RESULTSFor the section of mild symptoms, the total effective rate was 96.0% (24/25) in the comprehensive group and 92.0% (23/25) in the acupuncture bloodletting group, which were both superior to 68. 0% (17/25) in the penicillin group (P<0.05), but no statistical significance was seen between the comprehensive group and acupuncture bloodletting group (P>0.05). For the section of severe symptoms, the total effective rate was 96.0% (24/25) in the comprehensive group, which was obviously superior to 60.0% (15/25) in the acupuncture bloodletting group (P<0.01) and 68.0% (17/25) in the penicillin group (P<0. 05), and no statistical significance was seen between the acupuncture bloodletting group and penicillin group (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe efficacy of acupuncture bloodletting combined with penicillin is little different from that of acupuncture bloodletting for treatment of children acute tonsillitis with mild accompanied symptoms, which were both superior to intravenous injection of penicillin sodium. For severe accompanied symptoms, the efficacy of acupuncture bloodletting combined with penicillin is obviously superior to acupuncture bloodletting and penicillin.

OBJECTIVETo investigate how network education can improve college students' knowledge on sexual and reproductive health in Ningbo city.
METHODSFrom December 2012 to June 2013, we conducted a questionnaire investigation among college students in Ningbo city about the effects of network education on their knowledge about sexual psychology, sexual physiology, sexual ethics, and reproductive health.
RESULTSA total of 7 362 college students accomplished the investigation, of whom 2 483 (42.1% males and 57.9% females) received network education, while the other 4 879 (24.1% males and 75.9% females) did not. Approximately 47.1% of the male and 28.0% of the female students acquired sexual and reproductive knowledge via network education. Reproductive health-related network education significantly enriched the students' knowledge about the reproductive system and sex, pubertal development, sexual physiology, conception and embryonic development, methods of contraception, sexual psychology, sexually transmitted diseases and their prevention, pregnancy care and eugenics, and environment- and occupation-related reproductive health (P < 0.01). It also remarkably improved their cognitive attitude towards reproductive health knowledge (P < 0.01). Those who received reproductive health-related network education showed a significantly higher rate of masturbation (P < 0.01) but markedly later time of the first masturbation (P < 0.01) than those who did not.
CONCLUSIONNetwork education can enhance the effect of reproductive health education among college students and improve their sexual experience and health.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of therapeutic massage (tuina) for treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods: Six English and Chinese databases, including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Academic Journal Full-text Database (Wanfang), Chongqing VIP Database (CQVIP), China Biology Medicine Disc (CBM), Cochrane Library and PubMed databases, were independently searched to identify appropriate randomized controlled trials (RCTs) studying therapeutic massage for KOA compared to oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) alone. The main outcome measures were total effectiveness and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) score. Results: A total of 8 RCTs were included and they were of average quality. The results showed that therapeutic massage was more effective than NSAIDs comparing total effectiveness [risk ratio (RR)=1.14, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.07, 1.21), P<0.0001]; compared with NSAIDs, therapeutic massage produced more significant improvements in pain [mean difference (MD)=-2.06, 95%CI (-2.75, -1.36), P<0.00001], stiffness intensity [MD=-0.90, 95%CI (-1.05, -0.75), P<0.00001] and joint function [MD=-12.48, 95%CI (-13.91, -11.05), P<0.00001]. Conclusion: Therapeutic massage was more effective than oral NSAIDs in treating KOA. In relieving pain and stiffness and improving the function of knee joint, therapeutic massage was superior to NSAIDs.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2012;29(6):1144-1149
This paper is to investigate the apoptosis effect of ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells induced by nanosecond plused electric fileds (nsPEFs) and to study its influence on Fas-mediated apoptosis. SKOV3 cell were exposed to the 45kV/cm of field intensity, 30 pulses, and 50ns, 100ns, and 200ns of pulse width, respectively. Flow cytometry were used to assay apoptosis. Agarose gel electrophoresis was used to detect DNA ladder. Real time PCR (RT-PCR) and Western blot analysis were used to measure the expression level of Fas, FasL, caspase-8 and Bid. Flow cytometry results revealed that the late apoptosis rates and (or) necrosis were significantly higher than those in control group (3.03% +/- 0.57%) (P < 0.05), with apoptosis rates and (or) necrosis being (18.31 +/- 0.65%), (45.55% +/- 3.71%), (47.47% +/- 7.01%) in the groups of 50ns, 100ns, 200ns, respectively. A typical DNA ladder pattern of internucleosomal fragmentation was observed in the groups of 50ns and 100ns, but not clear in the 200ns group. RT-PCR results revealed that the mRNA expression of Fas, FasL, caspase8 and Bid were significantly increased in groups of 50ns, 100ns, but significantly decreased in group of 200ns (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, Western blot analysis demonstrated that the Fas, FasL, Caspase-8 and Bid expression were significantly higher in groups of 50ns, 100ns, but significantly lower in group of 200ns (P < 0.05). It indicated that 45kV/cm, 50ns, 100ns nsPEFs could induce apoptosis in ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells and activate Fas-mediated apoptosis pathway.
