ADAMs is a family of transmembrane proteins with multi domains and multiple functions, which play important roles in many(patho-)physiological processes. They are upregulated in a variety of tumors and possess protein shedding and adhesive activities, which showed that they could be useful as tumor biomarkers and promising targets for designing new anti-tumor drugs. This review focuses on the roles ADAMs play in the process of tumor development and the potential application in cancer therapy.

The ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the elbow is the primary stabilizer to resist valgus stress. Its injury is common in overhead throwing athletes, mainly caused by repeated valgus forces, and can cause elbow pain and affect the career of athletes. A common treatment of ulnar collateral ligament injury for overhead throwing athletes is ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR). At present, the UCLR techniques have been constantly improved, mainly in graft structure, incision exposure, management of the ulnar nerve, and methods of humeral and ulnar fixation. This paper is to review the anatomy and biomechanics of UCL, as well as techniques, key points, postoperative complications and rehabilitation of UCLR so as to deepen the understanding of UCLR in clinicians.

Background and purpose:There are few studies referring to population-based cancer survival of bladder cancer for more than forty years in China. This paper was to offer basis for assessing long-term survival trends of bladder cancer and the prognosis of this cancer through analysis of the survival rates based on cancer report documents from 1972 to 2011 in Qidong. Methods:The deadline of the last follow-up for survival status of the 1 619 registered cases was Apr. 2012. Cumulative observed survival rate (OS) and relative survival rate (RS) were calculated using Hakulinen’s method performed by the SURV3.01 Software which is developed by Finnish Cancer Registry. Results:The one-, three-, five-, ten-, fifteen-, twenty-, and thirty-year OS rates were 59.91%, 43.49%, 35.98%, 26.91%, 21.30%, 18.37% and 12.24%; and the one-, three-, five-, ten-, fifteen-, twenty-, and thirty-year RS rates were 64.07%, 53.02%, 50.06%, 52.42%, 59.59%, 76.39% and 115.75%, respectively. For males, these OS rates were 60.84%, 43.91%, 36.95%, 27.31%, 21.49%, 18.29% and 12.59%, and RS rates were 65.23%, 53.95%, 52.02%, 54.57%, 62.59%, 79.12% and 117.07%, respectively; For females, these OS rates were 56.61%, 42.03%, 32.44%, 25.65%, 20.78%, 18.80% and 0%, and RS rates, 59.99%, 49.91%, 43.37%, 45.86%, 51.21%, 69.02% and 0%, respectively. There were no statistical differences couldbe found between both sexes (P=0.256). Five-year RS rates of age groups 15-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, and more than 75 were 49.10%, 67.53%, 62.77%, 53.92%, 46.59% and 39.85%, and 10-year RS rates, 49.79%, 61.23%, 52.99%, 48.21%, 54.94% and 51.21%, respectively. Remarkable improvement could be seen for the five-, ten-, and fifteen-year RS rates in this setting since 1980’s.Conclusion:The survival outcome from Qidong registered cases with bladder cancer shows gradual progress during the past 2 decades. Early detection and improvement of therapies may be the factors affecting the prognosis of bladder cancer. Although the disparities in survival rates between Qidong and the developed countries are getting narrower, potential for survival improvement still exists.

Objective In order to find out influencing factors of corrosiveness of common chemical disinfectants used at present for medical instruments on varied metal material, and to offer scientific bases for working -out corresponding state standards. Methods Liquid instruments disinfectants containing chlorine and glutaraldehyde compound disinfectant were chose to take an example to study their corrosiveness to varied sorts and type s of the metal. Sing le related factors were researched by contrast test study in the process of dete rmining metal corrosion rate (R value, mm*a-1) citing from GB10124-88 me thod. Results Varied chemical disinfectants had different metal R valu e. R value was in fluenced by kinds of metal pieces, sorts of soaked vessel material, drying tempe rature, whether changing liquid disinfectants or not and water quality, while d ifferent capacity of balance measure had no effect on R value. Concl usi ons R value was affected by kinds and types of metal pieces and other factors. These fac tors should be considered sufficiently while determining or comparing corrosiven ess of chemical disinfectants to soaked metal.

Objective Norwood StageⅠis the standard procedure to cope with hypoplastic left heart syndrome(HLHS), which continues to be the most challenging congenital heart disease .The aim of this study is to retrospectively analyse the perio-perative management of Norwood StageⅠ.Methods Between June 2010 and August 2014, totally 5 small infants with HLHS underwent the standard Norwood StageⅠprocedure. They were all boys.Age at surgeries ranged from 29 to 75 days, and weight from 2.57-3.50 kg with median of 3.13 kg.Case 1, 2 and 3 received standard medical regimen after accessing NICU, which included intravenous prostaglandin E1 and mechanical ventilation. The 3 infants underwent emergent operations because of unstable hemodynamics.Case 4 and 5 received no medical intervention before the urgent surgeries. All 5 cases underwent the standard Norwood StageⅠprocedure under deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, including 4 cases of modified Blalock-Taus-sig shunt( MBTS) and 1 case of Sano shunt. Results The case with Sano shunt died from severe hypoxemia and persistent aci-dosis 32 hours after the operation, another case died from low cardiac output syndrome after cardiopulmonary bypass. The first case underwent bidirectional Glenn procedure 12 months after Norwood Stage I, the postoperative heart function was NYHA I and the oxygen saturation was 0.90-0.95 in room air, but he died from accidental brain injury 3 months after stage Ⅱ.The second case was followed up 3 months after stage I procedure with NYHA I and oxygen saturation of 0.78-0.83 in room air, and lost the follow-up after. The fifth case was followed up 3 months after stageⅠprocedure with NYHAⅠ, confluent MBTS and oxygen saturation of 0.84, the patient is being followed up and waiting for further evaluation for stageⅡprocedures.Con-clusion The standard Norwood StageⅠprocedure is a complex procedure, which demands multidisplinary cooperation, to pal-liatively correct HLHS .Sharing expericences on perioperative managements of Norwood Stage I between heart centers in China will be helpful to decrease the mortality and morbidity in relatively short period .

Objective To study the effect of IGF-1 gene therapy and electric stimulation therapy on the rat models of postpartum stress urinary incontinence, and explore the ideal treatment for this disease. Methods 240 SD female rats were used to establish the model of postpartum stress urinary incontinence by water sac vaginal dilation.148 model rats were randomly selected from 185 successful models and divided into 5 groups:IGF-1 gene therapy, clenbuterol treatment, electric stimulation therapy, injection of empty vector plasmid, and untreated groups.Besides, 20 non-modeled rats were used as blank control group.Urodynamic test was performed, pelvic floor pubococcygeus muscle/muscle weight ratio was calculated, and serum biochemical indices (LDH, CK) were detected, and the morphological changes of pubococcygeus muscle fibers were observed by light microscopy at 1, 21, 42 and 63 days after treatment. Results At 21 days after treat-ment, the maximum bladder capacity, leak point pressure, the contractile force/muscle weight ratio in the IGF-1 group and electric stimulation treatment group were significantly better (P>0.05), and the differences between the IGF-1 group and electric stimulation group were not significant ( P>0.05 ) .Conclusions The effect of IGF-1 gene therapy and electric stimulation on the rat models of postpartum stress urinary incontinence is better than that in the drug therapy group and oth-er groups.
