OBJECTIVE:To explore the effects of Kangfuxin liquid combined with Oral ulcer powder on inflammatory cyto-kines and therapeutic efficacy of recurrent aphthous ulcer. METHODS:134 patients with recurrent aphthous ulcer were randomly divided into observation group and control group,with 67 cases in each group. Both groups received routine treatment;control group was additionally given Oral ulcer powder,q2 h;observation group was additionally given Kangfuxin liquid,10 ml/time,gar-gling for 5-10 min and then swallowing slowly,tid. Treatment course of 2 groups lasted for 7 d. Clinical symptoms,serum inflam-matory cytokines,clinical symptom improvement and recurrence were observed in 2 groups. RESULTS:Total effective rate of ob-servation group was 95.52%,which was significantly higher than that of control group(82.09%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). The levels of TNF-α,IL-1 and IL-6 in observation group were significantly lower than those of control group,with statisti-cal significance(P<0.05);ulcer duration and VAS score of observation group were significantly shorter or lower than those of con-trol group,with statistical significance(P<0.05);after followed up for 6 months,recurrence rate of observation group(11.94%) was significantly lower than that of control group(31.34%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Kangfuxin liquid combined with Oral ulcer powder helps to lower levels of inflammatory cytokines of patients with recurrent aphthous ulcer, relieve the clinical symptoms,then improve therapeutic efficacy and reduce recurrence rate.

ObjectiveTo assesses the skeletal development of adolescent in Yantai area, and investigates the characteristics of the tendency of their skeletal development. MethodsTotally 1180 healthy adolescents ( 574 males and 606 females ) at 10 to 20 years of age living in Yantai area were randomly selected, and their left wrist were radiated at the posterior-anterior position. The bones at wrist were scored according to the Chinese Wrist Skeletal Development Standard CHN Method. The correlation among skeletal age, chronological age and the sex were analyzed. ResultsSkeletal age positively correlated with chronological age (male: r=0.943,females: r=0.942,totally: r=0.942). ConclusionThe skeletal development of adolescent in Yantai area has the characteristic of acceleration. So it is necessary to establish a new skeletal age standard for the skeletal development of adolescent.

Objective To observe the influence of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNFα) on skeletal muscle protein catabolism in rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the effects of indomethacin (IND) on it. Methods Duplicated COPD model rats were divided into two groups: the malnutrition group and the normal nutrition group. The malnutrition group were further divided by randomized block design into four groups. Isotonic physiologic saline was administered to group A, the control and the normal nutrition group, and different doses of oral IND were administered to groups B, C, and D weight, concentrations of TNFα, contents of 3-methyl-histidine ( 3- M H ) and tyrosine (Tyr) in the diaphragm and extensor digitorum longus muscle homogenates were measured before and after the intervention. Results Before the intervention, the concentrations of TNFα in the serum of malnutrition groups were all significantly higher than those of normal nutrition group and the control group. After the intervention: (1) The concentrations of TNFα in the serum of the rats of group B, C and D were significantly lower than the group A, especially in group C. The levels of TNFα in serum and body weight of model group rats were negatively correlated ( r = -0. 846, P ＜0. 01 ), as well as the diaphragm and extensor digitorum longus muscle weights ( r = - 0. 778, P ＜ 0. 01; r = - 0. 772, P ＜ 0. 01 ). (2) The levels of 3-methyl-histidine in the diaphragm and extensor digitorum longus muscles of the intervention group C was lower than the COPD normal nutrition group, as well as the intervention groups B and D. The contents of tyrosine in the diaphragm and extensor digitorum longus muscles of the intervention group C was lower than that of the COPD normal nutrition group,as well as the groups B and D. The body weight growth value of the intervention group B were slightly higher than the group A, without significant difference( P ＞ 0. 05 ), while the group C was significantly higher than the group A ( P ＜ 0. 01 ). Conclusions TNFα is involved in the occurrence of COPD malnutrition and skeletal muscle amyotrophy. IND can reduce the TNFα levels in the serum and the catabolic rates of the skeletal muscle proteins in malnutrition rats with COPD, so as to improve partly the skeletal muscle atrophy.

OBJECTIVETo study the impact of IFN-gamma on liver fibrosis and its possible mechanism. Thirty healthy male SD rats were randomly divided into two groups: fibrosis model group, IFN-gamma treatment group. Experimental liver fibrosis was induced by subcutaneous injection of CCl4. After 12-week-treatment, serum hyalurnic acid and TGF-beta1 was examined, histopathological changes and degrees of fibrosis were observed by optical microscopy. Meanwhile, the expression of TGF-beta1, TbetaR- I and Smad2/3 proteins was detected by immunohistochemistry and quantified by using computerized image analysis.

RESULTS(1) Pathological observation of hepatic specimens: histological examination showed that there were significant difference between normal group and fibrosis model group by comparing with the degrees of inflammation and fibrosis (P < 0.05). And the difference between fibrosis model group and IFN-gamma treatment group was significant (P < 0.05). (2) Changes of the hepatic fibrosis index (serum HA and TGF-beta1): the levels of serum HA, TGF-beta1 in fibrosis model group were higher than IFN-gamma treatment groups (P < 0.05). (3) Changes of gene protein levels about TGF-beta1/Smad: the expressions of TGF-beta1, TbetaR- I and Smad2/3 in rat hepatic tissue were detected with immunohistochemistry techniques. The expressions of the three items in model group were higher than normal group (P < 0.01). The difference between model group and IFN-gamma treatment group was significant (P < 0.05);

CONCLUSIONIFN-gamma treatment group had significant results on treating experimental hepatic fibrosis. By the way of inhibiting expressions of TGF-beta1, TbetaR- I, Smad2/3, IFN-gamma treatment group exerted its anti-fibrosis effect.

Objective To investigate the relations between saliva arsenic levels and serum arsenic and urinary arsenic of rats after exposed to different levels of sodium arsenite.Methods Thirty-two SD rats were randomly divided into four groups(8 rats in each group),namely the control group,the low,the medium,and the high doses of sodium arsenite exposure groups.Rats of the control group were given 0.9％ NaCI by gavage,and other three groups were given sodium arsenite of 0.2,2.0,20.0 mg/kg body weight by gavage.All animals were administrated every other day for two weeks,then saliva,blood,urine and tissue organs were collected,organ coefficients were calculated,total arsenic concentrations in blood and urine were detected by Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry(AFS-230) and total arsenic concentration in saliva was detected by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer(ICP-MS).Results The weight gain values of rats exposed to sodium arsenite were lower than that of the control group,the difference was statistically significant between the highest dose group[(76.13 ± 17.19)g]and the control group[(103.00 ± 12.31)g,P ＜ 0.05].The liver and kidney organ coefficients in the highest dose group [(3.92 ± 0.54)％,(0.96 ± 0.15)％]were significantly higher than that in the control group[(3.27 ± 0.35)％,(0.76 ± 0.05)％,P ＜ 0.05 or ＜ 0.01].The total arsenic concentrations in saliva[(0.044 ± 0.019),(0.211 ± 0.071),(1.128 ± 0.380)mg/L],blood[(11.832 ± 1.887),(45.032 ± 7.216),(121.839 ± 17.323)mg/L]and urine[(0.138 ± 0.085),(0.874 ± 0.328),(8.843 ± 1.754)mg/L]in the three treatment groups were significantly higher compared with that of the control group [(0.018 ± 0.014),(2.267 ± 0.370),(0.025 ± 0.011)mg/L,all P ＜ 0.05],furthermore,there was a significant difference among the three treatment groups (all P ＜ 0.05).The arsenic contents in saliva were significantly correlated with blood arsenic and urinary arsenic,the correlation coefficient was 0.934 and 0.960,respectively (all P ＜ 0.01).Conclusions High dose of arsenic exposure,with a strong toxicity to liver and kidney,can inhibit the increase of rat body weight.Arsenic dose-response relationship exists in the saliva,and saliva arsenic is significantly correlated with blood arsenic and urinary arsenic,suggesting that salivary arsenic can be used as a new biomarker for assessing human exposure to arsenic.
