Objective To retrospectively review the diagnosis and treatment of intraarticular synovial hemangioma of the knee under arthroscope. Methods Six cases of intraarticular synovial hemangioma of the knee were included. The examination of X ray and MRI before surgery indicated intraarticular synovial hemangioma in 5 cases and pigmented villonodular synovitis in 1 case, then arthroscopic diagnosis and excision of the lesions were followed. Results The six cases were definitely diagnosed as intraarticular synovial hemangioma. Under arthroscope, the lesions exhibited as irregular dark blue or purple capillary clumps of different sizes. The postoperative follow-up of 10.7 months in average (range 4-23 months) shows good joint function for all the patients and no signs of recurrence at the last follow-up. Conclusion Intraarticular synovial hemangioma is rare with a high rate of misdiagnosis. Careful physical examination and MRI can help to make the diagnosis. Arthroscopic surgery is a choice of diagnosis and treatment for intraarticular synovial hemangioma of knee.

Objective To explore the protective effect of co-treatment with antioxidants 4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetra-methylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPOL) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in pancreatic injury induced by intermittent hypoxia (IH) in mice. Methods Fifty male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into control group(CON), IH group (IH), IH+TEM-POL group (IH+TEMPOL), IH+GSH group (IH+GSH) and IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (IH+TEMPOL+GSH). After successful-ly prepared animal model, the insulin resistance (IR) level, pancreatic malondialdehyde (MDA) level, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, glutathione reductase (GR) concentration and pancreatic β-cell apoptosis were detected in five groups. Re-sults The blood glucose level was significantly increased in IH group than that in CON group (P<0.01), but which was sig-nificantly decreased in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group than that of IH group (P<0.01). The MDA content was significantly higher in the IH group than that in CON group (4.48±0.25 vs 1.94±0.21, P<0.01), but SOD activity and GR content were signifi-cantly lower in IH group than those of CON group (61.52±3.33 vs 100.05± 7.26,107.81±7.54 vs 170.54±4.90,P<0.01). The level of MDA was significantly lower in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (2.07±0.35) than that in IH group. The levels of SOD and GR were significantly higher in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (96.68±5.85 and 166.87±5.75) than those of IH group (P<0.01). The apoptotic rate of pancreaticβcells was significantly increased in IH group than that in CON group (2.43±0.07 vs 0.54± 0.06, P<0.01), but it was significantly lower in IH+TEMPOL+GSH group (0.56 ± 0.06) than that in IH group (P<0.01). There were no significantly differences in all above indexes between IH group, IH+TEMPOL group and IH+GSH group ( P>0.05). Conclusion The co-treatment with the antioxidant TEMPOL and GSH can obviously protect IH-induced pancreatic injury in mice. However, there was no significant protective effect of TEMPOL or GSH alone on pancreatic injury.

Objective To evaluate the surgical technique and procedures of transumbilieal breast augmentation with an inverse U-shape incision and insertion of saline-filled breast implants. Methods With specialized instruments, the subcutaneous tunnel was undermined to the inframammary crease after inverse U incision made along the umbilical border. The subpectoral space was dissected with a dissector after the advancement of obturator across the inframammary crease. The expander was inserted into the subpectoral pocket to be filled to obtain the high degree of symmetry of the breasts. Finally, the previous-ly prepared implants were inserted after the expander deflated and removed. Results All patients gained satisfactory results with no complications, such as hematoma, infection, implant deflation and Baker Ⅲ or Ⅳ capsular contracture. Conclusions Breast augmentation could be performed through umbilical inci-sion with the usage of saline-filled breast implant. This is an alternative of incisions in breast augmenta-tion.

BACKGROUND:Sufentanil exerts protective effects on tissues, but its roles in the repair of nervous system injury and the underlying mechanism are stil unknown.
OBJECTIVE:To explore the protective effect of sufentanil preconditioning in the repair of spinal cord injuries and the underlying mechanism.
METHODS:Mouse models of spinal cord injuries were prepared through clipping spinal cord fol owed by intraperitoneal injection of 3 and 6μg/kg sufentanil, respectively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUISON:(1) Western blotting, ELISA and TUNEL assays showed that 6μg/kg sufentanil significantly down-regulated the protein expression levels of TLR4, nuclear factor-κBp65, cleaved-caspase 3, tumor necrosis factor-αand interlenkin-1βin the spinal cord of mice (P<0.05);at the same time, the number of apoptotic neurons was significantly decreased (P<0.05). (2) Furthermore, high-dose sufentanil preconditioning significantly ameliorated the recovery of limb function at 14 days after injury (P<0.05). (3) These results administrate that the neuroprotection provided by 6μg/kg sufentanil preconditioning for spinal cord injuries in mice maybe related to the TLR4/nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway inactivation.

Objective To investigate the role and implication of Engrailed-2 (EN2) in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the effect of silencing EN2 genes on the proliferation and invasion of HepG2 cells by RNA interference. Methods Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of EN2 in the HCC tissues and corresponding non-cancerous adjacent liver tissues in 126 patients with HCC.The expressions of EN2 and the relationship between EN2 expression and clinicopathological features and prognosis were analyzed using the Chi-square test. The survival curve was drawn using the Kaplan-Meier method and the survival was analyzed using the log-rank test.EN2-small interfering RNA (siRNA) was transfected into HepG2 cell lines mediated by LipofectamineTM 2000,and the expression of EN2 were detected by Western blotting assay. The cell proliferation and invasion were measured by methyl thiazol tetrazolium (MTT) and Transwell assays. Results EN2 positive expression rate was high (62.7%) in HCC tissue but low in the corresponding peritumoral tissue (23.5%,P < 0.01).The high expression of EN2 was strongly correlated with tumor size, metastasis and AJCC TNM stage. The cumulative 5-year survival rate was 33.9% in the low EN2 expression group, whereas it was 5.1% in the high EN2 expression group (P < 0.01).Expression of EN2 in EN2 siRNA group was significantly lower than that in control siRNA group and control group (P < 0.05),respectively.The cell proliferation and invasion ability were significantly reduced in the EN2 siRNA group. Conclusion The expression of EN2 is highly up-regulated in HCC tissues and down-regulation of EN2 could inhibit proliferation and invasion of HepG2 cells, which indicating that EN2 is involved in the process of HCC carcinogenesis and progression and may serve as a biomarker for predicting prognosis of HCC patients.
