Objective To investigate the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemicalcharacteristics of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast(PSCCB). Methods Sixteen patients with primary squamous cell carcinoma of the breast were retrospectively reviewed. Twelve cases with a follow-up information were evaluated for ER, PR, C-erbB-2, HCK, Ki-67 expression. Results PSCCB is a very rare neoplasm, constituting 0.8 % of all breast carcinoma over 28 years(1981-2008) in our hospital. The patients age varied from 25 to 72, median age is 49 years old. All patients received operative treatment. Seven patients had metastatic disease in axillary lymph nodes. Three patients died from metastases and tumour recurrence.Tumors were usually ER-negative, but most cases showed high molecular cytokeratin (HCK) expression. Conclusion In terms of the clinical feature, there were no differences between the PSCCB and the other breast cancer. PSCCB could be confirmed by pathology. The prognosis is in controversial. Standard therapy should be studied and recommended in future.

Objective To observe the effect of intact vagus nerve stimulation(IVNS)on liver inflammation and mRNA expression of suppressors of cytokoine signaling(SOCS)in rats. Methods Eighty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into control group(n=20),sham group(n=20),LPS group(n=20,with intravenous injection of LPS to induce system inflammatory response)and LPS +IVNS group(n=20,with intact vagus nerve stimulation after LPS administration). The level of TNFαand IL-10 in the liver was detected with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay at 0,2,4,6 hours post-injection time.mRNA expressions of SOCS1 and SOCS3 in the liver were also determined with reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Resuits The liver TNFαin LPS+INVS group was lower than that of LPS group after LPS injection at 2,4 and 6 hours(P<0.05).Compared with LPS group, liver IL-10 level in LPS+IVNS group was higher(P<0.05)at post-injection time points(4 and 6 hours). After four hours of LPS challenge,mRNA expressions of both SOCS1 and SOCS3 were significantly increased.Compared with LPS group,mRNA expression of SOCS3 in LPS+INVS group was upregulated more significantly(P<0.01),while mRNA expression of SOCS1 showed insignificant difference. Conclusions IVNS can depress liver inflammation and the anti-inflammatory mechanism involves SOCS signal transduction pathway.

Objective Naringenin has a vast prospect of application because of its important biological activities .This study aims to explore the influence of different concentrations of naringenin on the growth of nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE 2 cells and its ac-tion mechanisms. Methods Using the MTT method, we measured the effects of naringenin on the growth of CNE 2 cells after treated at the concentrations of 0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mg/mL for 24, 48, and 72 hours. At 48 hours, we observed changes in the cycle of the cells treated with naringenin at 0, 0.02 and 0.04 mg/mL by flow cytometry, in the ap-optosis of the cells by Hochest 33258 staining and flow cytometry , in the level of reactive oxygen species ( ROS) in the cells by DCFH-DA staining, and in the mRNA expressions of C-fos, Bax and Bcl-2 by qPCR. Results Compared with the control group , naringe-nin at 0.02 and 0.04 mg/mL induced a low-level rise of ROS in the CNE2 cells (MFI:5186 ±183.50 and 5508 ±155.37, P<0.05), up-regulated the expression of C-fos (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and promoted the proliferation of the cells .However, naringenin at relatively high concentrations of 0.2 and 0.4 mg/mL significantly elevated the level of ROS (MFI:10758 ±179.82 and 11241 ±1 114.45, P<0.01), up-regulated the expression of Bax (P<0.01), down-regulated that of Bcl-2 (P <0.01), induced the apoptosis (P<0.01 ) and suppressed the proliferation of CNE 2 cells. Conclusion Within a concentration range of 0.005-0.8 mg/mL, naringenin may have two-way effects on the growth of CNE2 cells, a carcinogenic effect at a relatively low dose and a good anticancer effect at a relatively high dose .

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of spiral CT [CT arterial portography (CTAP) and CT hepatic arteriography(CTHA)] for hepatic carcinoma. Methods The CTAP and CTHA manifestations in 21 patients with hepatocelluar carcinoma were analyzed and compared with those in three-phase enhanced CT . Results The detection rate of three-phase enhanced CT was 72.4% , CTAP and CTHA was 96.1% and 88.2% respectively. The detection rate of combination CTAP and CTHA was 98.7% . They could reveal tumors of 0.5 cm in diameter . Both CTAP and CTHA gave false-positive findings , such as perfusion defects in 22.3% of CTAP and non-pathologic enhancement in 30.2% of CTHA .Conclusion With the use of spiral CT technique , the quantity of contrast material administrated in CTAP and CTHA can be considerably reduced . And the quality of CT images significantly improved . The detection rate of CTAP and CTHA is higher than that of three-phase enhanced CT . Simultaneous use of both procedures may decrease the false-positive rate.

Objective To determine the activities of 131I for treating differentiated thyroid carcinoma with diffuse pulmonary metastases ( DTC-DPM ) from the perspective of internal radiation dosimetry. Methods According to Medical Internal Radiation Dosimetry (MIRD) schema, the activity constraint, from which the whole bdy retention at 48 h should not exceed 2.96 GBq (2.96 GBq rule), was converted to dose-rate constraint(DRC) to lungs at 48 h ( DRCLU ·48 h ) in 131I therapy for DTC-DPM. Based on the assumption of DRCLU·48 h at 48 h in lung, the fractions of whole body activities ( F48 ), the effective half times of 131I in lungs ( TLL ) and the remainder of body ( TRB ) were 0.6-0.9, 20- 120 h, and 10- 20 h, respectively. The maximum safe activities of 131I for different human phantoms from the Organ Level Internal Dose Assessment (OLINDA) software were calculated. Results According to MIRD schema and 2.96 GBq rule, DRCLU ·48 h should not exceed 46.4 mGy/h in 131I therapy for DTC-DPM. Depending on varying F48 h,TLL and TRB, the maximum safe activities of 131I were 6.77-81.36, 5.29-56.20, 5.08-55.19 and 3.87-40. 52 GBq for the male adult, female adult, 15-year-old, and 10-year-old patients with DTC-DPM, respec tively. Conclusion Dosimetry-guided 131I therapy for DTC-DPM considers adequately the differences of 131I kinetics in individual patients and can adjust administered activities of 131I on the precondition of avoiding radiological pneumonitis and pulmonary fibrosis.
