OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) with branch-foundation acupoint combination on the indices regarding pituitary-target gland axis in aging rats with yang deficiency, so as to explore its regulating mechanism on aging rats with yang deficiency.

METHODSForty healthy Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a model group, an EA group and an EA control group, 10 rats in each group. Except the normal control group, the rats in the rest 3 groups were all treated with subcutaneous injection of D-galactose for 40 d, followed by intramuscular injection of hydrocortisone for 7 d to establish aging model with yang deficiency. After the successful establishment of model, the EA group was treated with EA at "Guanyuan" (CV 4), "Housanli" (ST 36) and "Baihui "(GV 20) while the EA control group was treated with EA at "Zhongji" (CV 3) "Yinlingquan" (SP 9) and "Yintang" (GV 29); the rats in the normal control group and model group were immobilized and fixed during the same time period. The treatments were given 6 times per week totally for 4 weeks. With radiation immunity analysis method, the 8 biological indices of pituitary-target gland axis, including thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), triiodothyronine (T3), tetraiodothyronine-4 (T4), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), corticosterone (CORT), estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were detected to observe the changes of their content.

RESULTSCompared with the normal control group, the serum level of TSH, T3, T4 and E2 were reduced in the model group (P<0.05, P< 0.01) while those of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH were increased (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the serum level of TSH, T3, T4 and E2 were increased in the EA group (P<0.05, P<0.01) while those of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH were significantly reduced (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the EA control group, the content of TSH was increased in the EA group without statistical significance (P>0.05), that of T3, T4 and E2 was increased (all P<0.05) and that of ACTH, CORT, FSH and LH was significantly reduced (all P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe electroacupuncture with branch-foundation acupoint combination has benign regulating effects on the key hormones of pituitary-target gland axis, which could effectively improve the dysfunction of pituitary-target gland axis that is caused by aging with yang deficiency; the efficacy of electroacupuncture with branch-foundation acupoint combination is superior to that of adjacent control acupoint combination.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the curative effect and surigical skills of reconstruction intramedullary nailing in the treatment of ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures.

METHODSFrom January 2007 to January 2013, 13 patients with ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures were treated by reconstruction intramedullary nailing including 11 males and 2 females with an average age of 38.9 yeas old ranging from 25 to 53 years old. For femoral neck fractures,10 cases were basilar neck fracture, 3 were transcervical fractures and according to Garden classification,10 were type II, 2 were type III and 1 was type IV. For feormal shaft fracture, 5 were type I, 4 were type II, 3 were type III and 1 was type IV according to Winquist classification. The location of all 13 feormal shaft fractures were all in the uper 3/4 of the feormal shaft. Complications and postoperative function were recorded and evaluated.

RESULTSEleven patients were followed up for 23.45 months (12 to 36 months). Time from injury to operation was 5.9 days in average. Malunion of femoral neck fracture happened in 1 patient, nonunion of femoral shaft fracture happened in 2 patients. NO femoral head osteonecrosis, infection and malunion of femoral shaft fracture happened. According to Friedman-Wyman classification, 8 cases get good result, 2 get faii and 1 get poor.

CONCLUSIONReconstruction intramedullary nailing is a good choice for the ipsilateral femoral neck and shaft fractures with the advantages of less soft-tissue trauma and complications.

ObjectiveTo investigate the ideal method of neoadjuvant hormonal therapy (NHT) for locally advanced prostate cancer.MethodsSixty cases of patients diagnosed with locally advanced ( T3 -T4 N0M0) prostate cancer were treated with NHT combined with intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT),They were randomly divided into 3 groups with 20 cases in each group.Group A with NHT 2 weeks,Group B with NHT 3 months,Group C with NHT 6 months.Endocrine duration began with NHT until 12 months after the end of IMRT.The PSA and prostate volumes were detected by transrectal ultrasound and Qmax was tested after NHT and every 3 months after IMRT.Results After NHT,the median PSA of different groups were decreased to 24.88,0.20 and 0.07 μg/L,respectively.There was significant difference ( P ＜ 0.05 ).The prostate volume in groups B and C reduced significantly ( P ＜ 0.05 ).The group B reduced 20.8％ and the group C reduced 39.5％.The Qmax of group B and C were ( 11.70 ± 2.81 ) and ( 14.45 ±2.61 ) ml/s respectively.After 12 months of endocrine combined with IMRT:(①)PSA.There was significant difference (P ＜0.01 ) with group C ＜ group B ＜ group A.②The prostate volume.The reducing of groups B and C were more obvious than group A ( P ＜ 0.01 ).There was no significant difference between group B and group C ( P ＞ 0.05).③Qmax.There was significant difference (P ＜ 0.01 ) among the 3 groups with group C ＞ group B ＞ group A.ConclusionsNHT combined with IMRT is an ideal method for locally advanced prostate cancer.The NHT time before IMRT treatment should last at least 3 months.

Objective:To evaluate the benefit of autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) as a consolidation therapy in the survival of multiple myeloma (MM) patients at different risks. Methods:A total of 67 MM patients who received ASCT as consolida-tion therapy between August 2006 and July 2011 were enrolled in the retrospective study. The cases were divided into three risk groups on the basis of the International Staging System and fluorescence in situ hybridization. Another 67 patients who accepted consolidation chemotherapy at the same period were selected as case-paired controls matched in terms of age, sex, optimal response after induction, and risk stratifications. All the patients received bortezomib-and/or thalidomide-based induction therapies. Results:No statistical differ-ences in non-complete remission (nCR)/complete remission (CR) rate were observed between the ASCT and chemotherapy groups (44.8%vs. 37.3%, P=0.380) after the induction therapy. The progression-free survival (PFS) was longer in the ASCT group than in the chemotherapy group (32.4 months vs. 15.1 months, P<0.001). The overall survival (OS) was longer in the ASCT group than in the che-motherapy group (58.8 months vs. 42.1 months, P=0.009). both the PFS (median:30.5 months vs. 11.2 months, P<0.001) and the OS (median:85.5 months vs. 34 months, P=0.015) rates were significantly prolonged in the high-risk subgroup after ASCT. In the interme-diate-risk subgroup, neither PFS nor OS showed any significance after ASCT (P>0.05). In the low-risk subgroup, only PFS was extend-ed (median: 34.8 months vs. 17.6 months, P=0.012) after ASCT, without significant improvements in the OS (P>0.05). Conclusion:The MM patients obtained cytogenetic high-risk benefits mostly from ASCT consolidation after inductions based on novel agents.

Objective To establish a method of automatic analysis of iodide in drinking water.Methods In accordance with the principles of the National Standard Methods Standard Testing Methods for Dringking Water (GB 5750-2006),the reagent concentration and the ratio of dosage were optimized; the national standard artificial colorimetric detection of iodide in drinking water was substituted by automatic biochemical analyzer colorimetric analysis procedure; the accuracy and the precision of the new method were observed and compared with the National Standard Methods.Results In determination of iodide in drinking water by using automatic biochemical analyzer,the best linear ranges of the standard curve:low concentrations 0-＜ 50 μg/L with a correlation coefficient of 0.999 1,and the detection limit was 0.4 μg/L; at high concentrations of 50-500 μg/L the correlation coefficient was 0.999 3,and the detection limit was 4.0 μg/L.The coefficient of variation was 2.2％-4.2％ and the recovery was between 98.6％-1035％.Compared with the National Standard Methods,the difference was not statistically significant (t =0.97-1.70,all P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions The method of determination of iodide in drinking water by using automatic biochemical analyzer is successfully established.The accuracy and the precision of the method can meet the quality requirements of water quality analysis.

Objective To investigate ideal solution of neoadjuvant hormomal therapy (NHT) for locally advanced prostate cancer.Methods 60 patients diagnosed with locally advanced (T3-4N0M0) prostate cancer were treated with NHT.They were randomly divided into 3 groups of 20 cases.A group:NHT 2 weeks,B group:NHT 3 months,C group:NHT 6 months.Results The median PSA of A,B and C group after NHT were 24.88 (6.62-55.86),0.20 (0.05-12.07) and 0.07 (0.01-2.01) ng/ml,respectively.There was statistically significance compared with those in untreatment ( all P =0.00).There was statistically significant (P =0.00)among groups.The prostate volume of A,B and C group were (49.50+14.19),(47.35±17.99) and (36.15±7.17)ml,respectively.There was statistically significance in the B and C group compared with that in untreatment (P =0.04,0.00).There was statistically significant between A and C group and between B and C group (P =0.00,0.01).The Qmax of A,B and C group were (8.75±2.15),(11.7±2.81) and (14.45±2.61) ml/s,respectively.There was statistically significance in the B and C group compared with untreatment (both P =0.00).There was statistically significance among groups (all P =0.00).Conclusion The NHT time should last at least 3 months in order to reduce PSA and prostate volume and to increase the Qmax.

Objective To investigate the pathogenesis of the expression and activation of signal transducers and activator of transcription(STAT) 6 in patients with ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods Thirty patients with active UC(diagnosed with colonoscopy with pathologicaly conformation),who were not treated with steroids or immunomodulators,and 30 age-matched healthy controls were studied.The expressions of phosphorylated STAT6 and non-phosphorylated STAT6 in nucleus and cytoplasm were deterimined by Western blot.DNA binding activity of STAT6 was tested by electrophoresis mobility shift assay(EMSA).Results The expression of phosphorylated STAT6 was higher in nucleus than that in cytoplasm in mild UC patients,but the expression was higher in cytoplasm than that in nucleus in moderate to sever UC patients (P

Objective To assess the effectiveness of treatment of meniscal injuries of knee joints by arthroscopy.Methods 33 patients 35 joints were followed up and the parts,types and treatment under arthroscopy were analysed.Results 33 patients were followed up from six months to six years,the mean preoperative Lysholm score was 60.5 points,and the mean postoperative one was 86.7 points.Conclusion The advantage of treating meniscal injuries by arthroscopy was the result of correct examination and little wound of arthroscopy operation,and arthroscopic repair or partial menisectomy could effectively restore the function of the injured knee.
