Objective To evaluate the outcomes of maxillary protraction in the treatment of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition. Methods Fourteen patients with skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition were treated with maxillary protraction for one year with oral active appliance bonded face mask.Cephalometric records were analyzed to assess the changes of maxillo-facial structure of the hard tissue before and after treatment. Results The anterior crossbite was unlocked in all the patients,and the maxilla moved downwards and forwards.Point A moved forwards,and angle SNA and ANB significantly increased.The mandible rotated downward and backward,and the Wits values significantly increased,which led to the correction of a skeletal class Ⅲ relationship.Maxillary length and protrusion significantly increased,and facial profile improved obviously. Conclusion Maxillary protraction works well in the treatment of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusions in early mixed dentition,and can reduce the chances of later orthognathic surgery.

Remaining organic and functional damage of ischemia cardio-cerebrovascular disease is always a main trouble puzzling the clinicians. After the discovery of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), researchers realize that postnatal angiogenesis is an important biological process, which play a key role to repair the ischemia tissue and improve the function. So a new concept which names therapeutic angiogenesis supply a new treament way for the ischemia cardio-cerebrovascular disease. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has accumulated rich experience on treating the ischemia disease, studies found that many Chinese medicine prescriptions and effective ingredients can increase the therapeutic angiogenesis, howerer the mechanisms were not the same, they mainly manifest in regular the secretion of angiogenic factors, increase the proliferation and differentiation etc. In this paper, we review recent studies, summary the Chinese medicine prescriptions and effective ingredients which can increase the therapeutic angiogenesis, and analyze the differernt pathway. We view to provide reference for the later researchers.

Objective To explore the clinical features,diagnosi s and prognosis of incontinentia pigmenti.Methods Analyzing and summarizing the clinical characteristic, diagnosis and prognosis of neonatal incontinentia pigmenti in 6 neonatal infants that were hospita- lized in our department during the period from January 1 998 to December 2003 were studied,and some relevant literature were reviewed. Results 1.Three of 6 infants were male which was unusual;2.Four infants had typical skin lesions at birth and 1 case at 6 days old.Four cases had typical 3 stages o f skin lesions including the erythematous and vesicular inflammatory stage,verr ucous lesions and hyperkeratosis stage,macular hyperpigmentation stage,but the re was overlap;3.Four infants were complicated by central nervous system involv ement (two cases presented mental retardation,2 infants were temporary damage). Two cases were complicated by ocular manifestations ( one case had optical nerve atrophy and blind in left eye,the other had severe bilateral retinal lesions); 4.On specific examination 5 infants were diagnosed by skin biopsy.Gene analysis was made in 1 case,but we didn′t find the mutations of NEMO. Conclusions Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare X-linked dominant multisystem disease.It may be misdiagnosed in the initial stages.Except typical clinical features,skin biops y and gene analysis are main evidence for diagnosis.Early detection and interven tion are important for prognosis. ObjectiveTo explore clinical features of cerebral palsy of premature infants and attempt to deduce the etiology and time of brain damages.MethodsMaterials included perinatal risk factors, neurodevelopmental evaluation, types of cerebral palsy and CT or MRI findings of 281 cerebral palsied children embryo age less than 37 weeks were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsAmong 281 cases, 47.07% of them were premature infants and most of them (64.67%) suffered from multiple high risk factors especially during perinatal and post neonatal periods. The main causes were perinatal asphyxia, icterus, and twin pregnancy. Spastic diplegia was more common in this group (70.81%), followed by athetosis and mixed of spastic and athetosis. The characteristic of neuroimaging findings was periventricular leukomalacia (PVL).ConclusionFor cerebral palsy of premature children, pematurity is an important cause of cerebral palsy and brain damages are often occurred during perinatal and post neonatal periods, main type is spastic diplegia, and main pathological change is PVL.

ObjectiveTo identify serum specific protein biomarkers for the early diagnosis of lymphoma patients by using surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS)protein chip array.MethodsSELDI-TOF-MS technique and weak cation exchanger (WCX2)protein chip were used to detect the serum proteomic patterns of 96 patients with lymphoma (86 patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 10 patients with Hodgkin lymphoma)and 30 normal control.The serum level of LDH were measured by biochemical methods,the serum level of β2-MG and CA125 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).ResultsFour protein peaks pattern mass/charge ratio (M/Z) 6880,8564,8692 and 13751 were decreased in lymphoma patients,and they could be used to distinguish lymphoma from healthy people and other malignant tumors.Their sensitivity and specificity were 82.29 ％ and 80.00 ％,78.13 ％ and 73.30 ％,75.00 ％ and 80.00 ％,71.88 ％ and 83.30 ％ respectively in lymphoma patients.When it was used to early diagnosing lymphoma in stage Ⅰ or Ⅱ,the sensitivity of four protein peaks pattern (M/Z 6880,8564,8692 and 13 751) were 77.55 ％,71.43 ％,71.43 ％ and 67.35 ％respectively and the specificity of all four protein peaks pattern were 100.00 ％.Four protein peaks pattern sensitivity were higher than LDH,CA125 and β2-MG respectively.ConclusionApplication of SELDI-TOF-MS can be of great potential for the early diagnosis of lymphoma patients.

Objective To study the effect of thalidomide and arsenic trioxide on the proliferation and apoptosis effect in human myelodysplastic syndrome cell line MUTZ-1 and explore its possible mechanism.Methods MUTZ-1 cells were cultured with different concentration of thalidomide alone, arsenic trioxide alone, and thalidomide plus arsenic trioxide for 48 h. The cell proliferation was analyzed by CCK-8 test, and cell apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. The expression of Bmi-1 was analyzed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. Results Thalidomide alone had no significant inhibition on growth of MUTZ-1 cells (P >0.05).Arsenic trioxide alone had obviously inhibited the cell proliferation (P <0.05). While thalidomide plus arsenic trioxide group had the great inhibition effect(CDI <0.7), and reveal was that two drugs had synergism effect on inhibiting the MUTZ-1 cells. Arsenic trioxide group of apoptosis rate was increased with higher concentrations of drug, a dose-dependent (r = 0.627, P <0.05), thalidomide in the rate of apoptosis with no increase in drug concentration significantly (r= 0.313, P> 0.05), and the combined group with the drug also increased the concentration of expression (P <0.05). In arsenic trioxide group the expression of Bmi-1 / β-actin declined with the increased concentration, a dose-dependent (r =-0.912, P<0.05), thalidomide group Bmi-1 / β-actin with the increased concentration of no significant decline (r =-0.594, P >0.05), the combined group Bmi-1 inhibition was significantly higher than arsenic trioxide, thalidomide in a separate drug group (CDI <0.7).Conclusion Thalidomide group had no significant growth inhibition. Arsenic trioxide on MUTZ-1 cells significantly inhibited the growth and increased in the combined group significantly.

Objective To improve the recognition of intramedullary spinal abscess by a case of congenital dermal sinus with intramedullary spinal abscess and reduco the incidence of congenital dermal sinus with intramedullary spinal abscess.Methods Clinical,laboratory data and image of a confirmed case about one infant of congenital dermal sinus with multiple intramedullary spinal abscess were investigated,the related literature was reviewed.Results In this case,when the infant with congential dermal sinus had infection,he failed to gain antibiotic therapy, timely surgical treatment,his infection had diffused, and multiple intramedullary spinal abscess flared up.Conclusions Intramedullary spinal abscess is a rare disease.If treatment is delayed, the prognosis is poor and the mortality rate is high.MRI is the ideal investigation for diagnosis.Intramedullary spinal abscess can happen subsequent to congenital dermal sinus with infection, and cause neurological sequela. So an infant with congenital dermal sinus should be offered to avoid complication caused by infection.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of standard-dose of dexamethasone and low-dose dexamethasone combined with thalidomide in treatment of multiple myeloma. Methods Thirtynine patients with multiple myeloma were randomly divided into 2 groups, who were treated with chemotherapy of thalidomide (200 mg/d) plus dexamethasone (40 mg d1-46728 days in standard-dose group and 20 mg dl-4d/28 days in low-dose group), for a total of 4 courses. The efficacy, survival time and adverse events were compared between the two groups. Results Complete remission rate, partial remission rate and overall response rate of the standard-dose group were 26.3 %, 35 % and 75 %, respectively; and those of the low-dose group were 15.8% , 36.8 % and 68.4 %, respectively. No statistical difference between the two groups (P >0.05 ) was observed. Lung infections, blood pressure elevation, blood glucose elevation, shingles and other adverse reactions in the standard-dose group were statistically higher than those in the low-dose group (P <0.05). Conclusion Efficacy on multiple myeloma of standard-dose and low-dose dexamethasone are similar, but adverse reactions are significantly increased.
