Acta Anatomica Sinica 1957;0(04):-
The neuropil in the area of the nucleus intermediolateralis is compossed of dendrites, axons, axonal terminals, synapses and processes of the neuroglia passed through them. The dendrites are scattered and variant in size and shape. Small axons, on the other hand, usually have regular contours and tend to travel in bundles. Three types of synaptic connections were found, the axo-dendritic, axo-sometic and axo-axonic synapses. Some of the synapses form glomerulus in which the dendrite or the axon may be the center. The presynaptic terminals contain numerous synaptic vesicles of various patterns. The pre-and postsynaptic membranes may be asymetrical or symetrical. According to the shape of the synaptic vesicles and the relative thickness of the pre-and postsynaptic membrane the synapses may be classified into three types: 1, spheric vesicle asymetrical type, 2, flattened vesicle symetrical type, and 3, intermediate type.

Objective To explore the relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and intima-media thickness in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients. Methods A total of 1236 diabetic subjects who were diagnosed within 1 year, including 218 older patients, were enrolled in the study. Intima-media thickness of the right common carotid artery and femoral artery were determined using B mode ultrasonography. All subjects were ophthalmologically examined. Results The intima-media thickness values of the carotid artery and femoral artery[(0.83 ± 0.11)mm, (0. 80 ±0.11)mm] in elderly DR group were higher than those [(0. 78±0.12)mm, (0.75±0.13)mm] in elderly non-DR group(P<0.05). The prevalences of DR in IMT≥0.8 mm group[20.6%: carotid artery, 18.6%: femoral artery] were higher than those in IMT< 0.8mm group [13.0%: carotid artery, 13.6%: femoral artery] (P<0. 05). Logistic regression analysis also showed DR was associated with IMT. Conclusions DR is associated with IMT in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients, and early changes of retinopathy are associated with increased IMT.

To study the effects of the extract of fungal elicitor, AgNO3, MeJA and yeast on the growth and content of secondary metabolites of adventitious roots in Tripterygium wilfordii. The above elicitors were supplemented to the medium, the growth and the content of secondary metabolites were measured. When the medium was supplemented with the elicitor Glomerella cingulata or Collectotrichum gloeosporioides, the content of triptolide was increased by 2.24 and 1.93-fold, the alkaloids content was increased by 2.02 and 2.07-fold, respectively. The optimal concentration of G. cingulata was 50 μg/mL for accumulation of triptolide, alkaloids and for the growth of adventitious roots. AgNO3 inhibited the growth of adventitious roots and the accumulation of the alkaloids, whereas it (at 25 μmol/L) increased the accumulation of triptolide by 1.71-fold compared to the control. The growth of adventitious roots, the contents of triptolide and alkaloids were increased 1.04, 1.64 and 2.12-folds, respectively when MeJA was at 50 μmol/L. When the concentration of yeast reached 2 g/L, the content of triptolide increased 1.48-folds. This research demonstrated that supplementation of AgNO3 and yeast enhanced the biosynthesis of triptolide in adventitious roots and the synergism of G. cingulata and MeJA could promote the biosynthesis of both triptolide and alkaloids.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2016;34(3):234-238
OBJECTIVEThis research aimed to investigate the expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL) in mandibular distraction osteogenesis (DO) regulated by parathyroid hormone (PTH) and to explore the mechanism by which PTH promotes DO.
METHODSA rabbit mandibular DO model was established. The rabbits were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. The former were subcutaneously injected with different doses of PTH on alternate days, the latter was injected with normal saline every other day. Serum OPG levels were detected through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The OPG and RANKL expression levels in the DO-induced formation of a new bone tissue were examined through immunohistochemistry staining.
RESULTSThe serum OPG levels gradually increased during distraction. At the end of the stretch, the OPG expression in the experimental group was significantly stronger than that in the control group. As the fixed period was extended, the OPG expression in the new bone gradually decreased, but the RANKL expression increased.
CONCLUSIONIntermittent subcutaneous PTH injection can upregulate the OPG expression and accelerate bone metabolism. Thus, this procedure promotes the early generation of a new bone in the mandible through DO.
