3.STUDY OF MICRONUTRIENT COMPOUNDS ON IMPROVEMENT OF DARK ADAPTATION FUNCTION

The effect of micronutrient complex preparations on dark adaptation function was studied in human body. Sixty-four young students, 18 to 20 years of age, were divided into four groups. Under the normal dietary condition, the experimental groups were supplemented with different microcutrient complex preparations for two weeks.Before and after the experiment serum vita- min A and zinc level, quick dark adaptation time, near-sighted in dim light time and absolute threshold were determined. It was found that dark adaptation was much improved in the group supplemented with adequate vitamin A as well as other vitamins and zinc. So we suggested that micronutrient complex preparation should be given to operators who will concentrate their sight in low illuminance for maintaining their visual function.
4.Influence of curcumin--loaded poly (lactide-co-glycolide) films on the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells.

In-stent restenosis is the major problem of percutaneous coronary interventions. Drug-eluting stent became a landmark in the treatment of coronary disease. Curcumin could be used for drug-eluting stent due to its antithrombogenity and antiproliferative properties. In this paper, 3-(4, 5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assays were performed to decide the optimal concentration of curcumin for inhibiting the proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). The result disclosed that more than 80% of VSMC were inhibited when the concentration of curcumin ranged from 2.5 microg/ml to 10 microg/ml (P < 0.05, compared to ethanol). Three weight percent curcumin-loaded films (3wt%, 5wt%, 8wt%) were prepared using a biodegradable polymer (poly (lactic acid-co-glycol acid), PLGA) as the carrier of curcumin. The release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was used to evaluate the immediate toxicity of the curcumin-loaded PLGA films, and the three concentration curcumin-loaded films were revealed to be of no acute toxicity to the smooth muscle cells. The results of Alamar Blue test indicated that the curcumin-loaded films had better antiproliferation effect than did the 316 stainless steel (SS). Therefore, these films may be used for stent coating to inhibit the in-stent restenosis induced by VSMC proliferation.

5.Preparation and anticoagulation of curcumin/poly(lactic acid-co-glycol acid) composite films.

In-stent restenosis is the major problem in clinical application of coronary stent. Drug-eluting stent became a landmark in the treatment of coronary disease. However, thrombosis is still a problem of drug-eluting stent. There has been clinical report indicating that thrombosis sometimes is induced by drug-eluting stent implantation in late stage. Curcumin could be used for drug-eluting stent due to its antithrombogenity and antiproliferative properties. In this paper, three weight percent curcumin-loaded films (3wt%, 5wt%, 8wt%) were prepared using a biodegradable polymer (poly (lactic acid-co-glycol acid), PLGA) as the carrier of curcumin. The component of curcumin-loaded film was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and the major peaks of curcumin and PLGA were both observed in the composite film. The result of in vitro platelet adhesion test shows that the number of adhered platelet reduces, and few aggregated and activated platelets are observed. For all composite films, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) increases. The results indicate that the curcumin-loaded films have better anticoagulative effect when compared with PLGA. In addition, all anticoagulation tests indicate "the higher the drug content in the film, the better the anticoagulative effect".

6.Mental health status and its influencing factors among residents in Zhuhai

BackgroundCurrently, there has been a gradual increase in the incidence of mental diseases, becoming a problem that has attracted great concern of the general public. Zhuhai is a core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the local government have attached great importance to the mental health of residents. The systematic study on the mental health has focused largely on pregnant women and medical workers, yet few are on the adult residents. ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and its influencing factors of anxiety and depression among adult residents in Zhuhai, so as to provide references for formulating targeted psychological intervention strategies. MethodsFrom September 1 to December 1, 2021, a cohort of 5 600 permanent residents aged 18 years and above in Zhuhai were selected through multistage sampling. All participants were subjected to complete Patients' Health Questionnaire Depression Scale-9 item (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 item (GAD-7) and National Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire based on Wenjuanxing software. Then Logistic regression was employed to identify the factors associated with anxiety and depression among the residents. ResultsAmong the 5 600 residents, depressive symptoms were detected in 842 (15.04%) residents and anxiety symptoms in 579 (10.34%) residents. Logistic regression analysis yielded that female gender (OR=1.488), living in Doumen district (OR=1.942), junior college/undergraduate level (OR=3.602), postgraduate and above (OR=5.904), irregular meal pattern (OR=3.320), comorbid chronic diseases (OR=3.244), disqualification of self-assessment (OR=3.414) and disqualification of mental health skill (OR=2.131) were risk factors for depression symptoms, whereas age ≥25 years old (of all age groups OR<1), monthly per capita income >20 000 yuan (OR=0.438) and exercising ≥3 times a week (OR=0.431) were protective factors for depression symptoms. Age of 25~34 years old (OR=2.051), living in Jinwan district (OR=1.729) or Doumen district (OR=1.901), junior college/undergraduate level (OR=2.955), postgraduate and above (OR=6.662), irregular meal pattern (OR=2.741), comorbid chronic diseases (OR=3.535), disqualification of self-assessment (OR=3.325) and disqualification of mental health skill (OR=1.838) were risk factors for anxiety symptoms, while monthly per capita income of 6 001~9 000 yuan (OR=0.665) and exercising ≥3 times a week (OR=0.572) were protective factors for anxiety symptoms. ConclusionThe mental health status of adult residents in Zhuhai is affected by various factors, including gender, age, region of residence, education level, meal pattern, exercise frequency and chronic diseases.
