Objective To establish a 3D digitized visual model of the liver to provide anatomical structure for planning hepatic operations and creating accurate computer simulations of the liver. Methods Transverse sections of abdomen were chosen from the Chinese Visible Human dataset. The liver was reconstructed in three dimensions with surface rendering in combination with volume rendering reconstruction. Results Accurately segmented images of the main structures of liver were completed. The reconstructed structures could be displayed singly, in small groups or as a whole and could be continuously rotated in 3D space at different velocities. Conclusion The reconstructed liver is realistic and demonstrates the natural shape and exact position of hepatic structures. It provides an accurate model for the automated segmentation algorithmic study and a digitized anatomical model of the liver.

Objective To establish a luciferase labeled McA-RH7777 hepatoma rat model, which could be used for gross observation to further observe the effect of selective ligation of the portal vein and bile duct on tumor growth and metastasis. Methods The luciferase gene was transfected into rat McA-RH7777 hepatoma cells with pCDH-puromycin-CMV as the carrier, which were subcutaneously inoculated into Buffalo rats.Tumor pieces were then heterotransplanted into the left lateral lobe of the allogenic rat liver to observe the tumor growth in vivo. After the successful hepatoma modeling, the rats were randomly divided into three groups, namely the implanted portal vein group with combined portal vein and bile duct ligation, the implanted portal vein group with single portal vein ligation and sham operation group. The rats were executed at the 1 st week and 2nd week after ligation, and the livers were dissected to record the tumor growth and metastasis inside and outside the liver, respectively. Results The tumor formation rates of Buffalo rats after subcutaneous and intrahepatic implantation were both 100%.The fluorescence signal implanted into the liver lobe could be observed in vivo after the intrahepatic implantation of luciferase transfected Luc-McA-RH7777 at 2nd week, the range and intensity of which increased over time.Only local tumor growth could be found at the 4th week, without obvious intrahepatic and lung metastasis. However, both an increased in situ tumor volume and the pulmonary metastasis could be observed in the implanted portal vein group with combined portal vein and bile duct ligation at 2nd week after the ligation.Immunohistochemistry showed AFP positive immunoreactions in the vast majority of intrahepatic tumor cells and Luc positive immunoreactions in part of tumor cells. Conclusion Luc-McA-RH7777 cells could be used to establish the heptoma rat model and the in vivo analysis within the Buffalo rat liver demonstrated that the combined ligation of the portal vein and bile duct can accelerate the development and metastasis of liver cancer.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2013;33(3):332-337
OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of congestion/reperfusion injury (CRI) and ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) on remnant liver in rats after hepatectomy.
METHODSMale SD rats were divided into IRI, CRI, and control groups. In the former two groups, the left lateral lobe of the rats were subjected to IRI or CRI for 30 min with the rest lobes (about 70% of the total liver weight) resected; the rats in the control group received hepatectomy preserving only the left lateral lobe. The mortality rate of the rats was recorded, and the surviving rats were sacrificed at 1, 3 and 7 days after operation for analyses of ICG plasma disappearance rate (ICG-PDR), ALT, AST, liver regeneration rate, and Ki-67 labeling index.
RESULTSThe mortality rate was significantly higher in CRI group (34.3%) than in IRI group (8%, P<0.05) and control group (4%, P<0.01). On day 1 following hepatectomy, CRI group showed significantly higher liver enzyme levels and poorer liver functions than the control group (P<0.05) without significant differences from those in IRI group (P<0.05); Ki-67 labeling index in CRI group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.01) and IRI group (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, CRI group showed a significantly lowered maximum Ki-67 labeling index with also a delayed occurrence (P<0.01); CRI resulted in poorer liver regeneration rate on day 3 after hepatectomy compared to the control group (P<0.01) and IRI (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONCompared with IRI, CRI can result in severer liver damage and lowered liver regenerative capacity in rats early after hepatectomy.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2017;37(8):825-829
OBJECTIVETo observe the effects differences for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) between periodic therapy of acupuncture and diane-35 and to explore its mechanism.
METHODSSixty patients were randomly assigned into an acupuncture group and a western medication group, 30 cases in each one, 29 patients finally included with one case dropping out respectively. In the acupuncture group, periodic therapy was mainly used at bilateral Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Dahe (KI 12), Guilai (ST 29), Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongji (CV 3), with different acupoints in the postmenstrual, intermenstrual, premenstrual periods, once every other day, 3 times a week. EA (2 Hz/100 Hz) was used at bilateral Dahe (KI 12) and Guilai (ST 29). If treatment, FSH increased and LH, LH/FSH, T decreased in the two groups (all<0.05), but T level and the different value before and after treatment in the western medication group were better than those in the acupuncture group (both<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPeriodic therapy of acupuncture is probably one of the effective methods for PCOS, which can improve patients' clinical symptoms, sex hormone level, and menstrual cycle. there was no discomfort during menstrual period, no treatment was given. In the western medication group, diane-35 was prescribed orally for 21 days as a course, with 7 days at interval, one tablet a day. All the treatment was started on the fifth day of the menstrual circle, for continuously 3 months. The indexes were observed before and after treatment, including the menstrual circle, acne score, body mass index (BMI), serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), LH/FSH and testosterone (T). The effects of the two groups were compared.
RESULTSThe total effective rate was 75.9% (22/29) in the acupuncture group, which was not significantly different from 79.3% (23/29) in the western medication group (>0.05). The menstrual cycles were shorter after treatment in the two groups (both<0.05), with better effect and different value before and after treatment in the acupuncture group (both<0.05). BMI in the acupuncture group after treatment was lower than that before treatment (<0.05) and that after treatment in the western medicine group (<0.01), with better different value before and after treatment in the acupuncture group (<0.05). The acne scores after treatment decreased in the two groups (both<0.05), without significant difference after treatment between the two groups (>0.05). After treatment,FSH increased and LH,LH/FSH,T decreased in the two groups (all<0.05),but T level and the different value before and after treatment in the western medication group were better than those in the acupuncture group (both<0.05). Conclusion Periodic therapy of acupuncture is probably one of the effective methods for PCOS,which can improve patients' clinical symptoms, sex hormone level, and menstrual cycle.
