International Journal of Surgery 2011;38(4):238-240
Objective To investigate the relationship between body mass index(BMI) and the outcomes of liver function of patients with hepatocarcinoma after surgery. Methods We divided the patients into three groups: normal, overweight and obese groups based on BMI, then we recorded their preoperative and the postoperative liver functions: albumin, total bilirubin, alanine aminotrasferase(ALT), aspertate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase(ALP), γ-glutamyltranoferase(γ-GGT), triglycerides(TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein(HDL) and low density lipoprotein(LDL). Results The mean values of ALT change between the preoperative and the postoperative were (14.9 ± 1.98) U/L, (15.4 ± 2.27) U/L,(22.2±1.32) U/L; Mean values of γ-GGT change were(16.2 ± 1.33) U/L, (18.7 ±0. 97) U/L,(22.3 ± 1.27) U/L; mean values of TG change were (0. 18 ± 0. 44) mg/dL, (0. 21 ± 0.08) mg/dL,(0.25 ± 0.03) mg/dL. Compared with the results of control groups, there were no significant differences of recovery of liver functions between normal and overweight groups(P > 0. 05), but the obese group' s recovery of liver functions did lag behind the normal group (P < 0.05). It is showed that the obese group' s shared same recovery of albumin, total bilirubin, AST, ALP, TC, HDL and LDL. The difference was significant between the normal and obese groups in terms of recovery of ALT, γ-GGT, TG(P < 0. 05). Conclusion BMI is associated with the recovery of liver function of patients with hepatocarcinoma, the obese patients have poor prognosis of recovery of liver function.

BACKGROUND: Recently, researchers separate neural stem cells (NSCs) from neural system. As the progenitor of nerve cell and glia cells, NSCs have strong ability of self-renewal and proliferation, and play a very important role in repair process after nerve injury. OBJECTIVE: To review the repairing effect of NSC transplantation on hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. RETRIEVAL STRATEGY: Using the "Neural stem cells, brain, hypoxic-ischemic", we searched PubMed database for related articles published in English between 1993 and 2007. 131 articles were collected, and after the first trial, only articles ① related to neural stem cell transplantation for brain injury, and ②published in recently or in authoritative journals were selected. Repetitive researches were excluded. LITERATURE EVALUATION: The articles were about the studies of NSCs and randomized and controlled experiment for hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. Thirty-three English articles were included involving the biological characteristics of NSC, distribution, separation and culture in vitro, and the basic experiment or clinical research about the repair of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury by NSC. Of these articles, there are 7 review articles, and the others were about clinic or basic experiment researches. DATA SYNTHESIS: Researches show that after transplantation NSC can survive in host, furthermore, it proliferates and differentiates to repair the configuration and function of injured brain area. Even though we have achieved much in NSC transplantation for brain injury, yet there are many problems to be resolved, such as NSC source and conservation, the control mechanism of differentiation and proliferation when NSC is cultured in vitro. In addition, the amount or functional activity of NSCs acquired is lower, and the molecular biological features of cells in repaired tissue are uncertain. CONCLUSION: As a kind of ideal seed cell, NSC provides an approach for the repair of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and starts a new era of clinic therapy by stem cells.

Chinese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 2001;17(1):32-34
Objective: Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is an anti-inflammatory helper T cell type 2 (Th2) cytokine that modulates Th1-type cytokine production. The purpose of present study was to detect the expression and changes of IL-10 in the rats heart transplantation, as determine the role of IL-10 in the acute rejection of rats heart transplantation. Methods: Hearts from DA rats were transplanted into the necks of Wistar recipients. Allografts was divided into five groups: group A (control, n=12), group B (DST treated, n=12), group C (IL-2 Mab treated, n=12), group D (IL-4 Mab treated, n=12), group E (IL-2 Mab treated, n=12). The local expression of IL-10 was analyzed at day 1,3,5,7,9,11,14 by reversed transcripition polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Results: Allografts survival time was (8.3±1.7) days, (29.2±7.1) days, (26.4±5.7) days, (10.2±1.9) days and (55.0±10.6) days (P<0.05, P<0.01), respectively. When compared with group A, the level of IL-10 was upregulated in group B, group C and group E, especially in group E. The upregulation of IL-10 was related to the grafts survival time. Conclusion: IL-10 plays an important role in the development of acute transplantational rejection, suggests that Th-2 type deviation may contribute to the prolongation of graft survival.

Chinese Journal of General Practitioners 2012;11(5):381-382
The examinations of optical coherence tomography (OCT) images were obtained in 136 patients. Lactated Ringer's solution or physiological saline was used randomly as perfusate. Their electrocardiogram and cardiac enzymes were acquired to compare the safety and image quality of two perfusates. The incidence of ventricular arrhythmia and rise of cardiac enzymes were lower in the lactated Ringer's solution group than those in the physiological saline group.Yet the image quality of OCT had no difference. The use of lactated Ringer's solution as perfusate instead of physiological saline in OCT examination may protect the ischemic myocardium and reduce the incidence of complications.
